I found a possible source of the problem. In addition to experiencing the same issue as the others in this thread, when I attempt to start the demo from the desktop shortcut that the installer created, I get this error:
i.imgur.com/uAue4.png

I had to re-install Windows a few weeks back, but I kept Origin on a different partition and did not re-install it when I re-installed Windows. So apparently the demo does not like how Origin no longer has entries in the Windows registry. Without those entries, it believes that Origin is not installed, despite requiring Origin to install the demo.

I can run other Origin games just fine, such as Crysis 2.

Update: Success! I shut down the Origin client and re-installed it. I pointed the installer to Origin's current directory. Started up the client, logged in, and I can run the demo without issue.

Hi All,

The Origin team has identified an issue for users who have an NVIDIA nForce Chipset. Origin will close when the ME3 demo is launched.
It appears in this case the problem is being caused by an old driver.

You can get the latest ForceWare drivers here.

Hope that helps!

Which particular drivers are you referring to?  Neither running the latest WHQL or Beta display drivers fixes this issue.  Are you referring to the NForce drivers?

Well that didn't work. Newest Nforce drivers made no difference.

Same here, I have the newest Nvidia drivers and ME3 demo exits to desktop every time saying origin is no longer running. Weirdly I played the demo three times on the 14th without issue, but starting yesterday this problem cropped up. I have the newest version of origin, and have tried reinstalling both it and the ME3 demo to no avail.

I've also experienced this issue as well. I'd managed to get through the first playthrough, but anything beyond that is essentially locked out. I'll wait to install the driver mentioned by Mr. Hegarty until someone has positive results. Call me a skeptic :P I really do hope the problem gets resolved by the time ME3 comes - being locked out of the game on launch day would not be very fun :|

If only this demo was on steam, then we wouldn't have to go through this piece of **** Origin.

It says I need a product code in order to download it, I can't find one anywhere.

Someone stated before that it should be in the information for the game in the games library... but that is empty.

same problem as the OP

Origin logs don't seem to show anything untoward.

I was in the UK 2 days ago and was getting this message on my laptop.
I am back in Bahrain now and getting this message on my laptop and also on my main PC.

-Both machines are Windows 7 Ent, x64.
-Both using MS Security essentials and the windows firewall, although switching that off doesn't seem to make any difference.
-Both have UAC on.
-Running Origin or the ME3 binary as administrator doesn't seem to make a difference.
-Origin in-game overlay is off.
-Laptop is some sort of mobility Radeon 3000, desktop is an Radeon 6780 with the 12.1 drivers.
-Origin version 8.4.1.210 -132428
-no change with proxy/no proxy

try this
>>Reinstall windows & before installation format u'r C drive via setup
>>install all drivers with latest updates
>>install origin & play
works for every user i encounter until now.

Edit:
change the game directory into other drive rather then C(or default) i.e. D/E/F so u don't have to run as adminstrator.

I ran into this error about Origin not running, turns out if the demo is not able to access the internet it will fail every time. I added an exception to my fire wall to allow the demo access to the network and it played fine.

I'm also getting this error. I also have an nForce motherboard. Updated the video to the latest beta drivers. Already had the latest nForce drivers. Poked a hole for the firewall, then tried it with the firewall off. Turned off MS Anti-virus, no go. Noticed that about all I was getting from nForce drivers was the hard drive and network card drivers. So I put a Realtek network card in and disabled the motherboard network jacks. Still no go.

Sent an e-mail to OriginLogs@ea.com with the peticulars of my computer, still haven't heard back. Anyone else heard anything?

Bumping this.

I did get a response from OriginLogs last week that they were working on this issue, but I have bugged them since then with no reply. The demo works fine on my desktop with Windows XP, and it seems everyone with this problem has a Windows 7 64bit machine, so hopefully they can solve this bug for the actual game.

So, it's been a good 9 days since the conception of this thread. Considering there are 2 weeks left until the game is launched, and the issue has yet to be fixed, we could really use some sort of status update from Joseph or any other Developer on whether

a) The issue is still being worked on, and/or
B) Any Progress has been made.

So far, there is still no consistent solution. I have to assume that if the demo can not properly work for those using nVidia video cards, that the main game itself will refuse to continue past the main menu. In which case, I will not be buying the game. Renting? Yes, I'd like to at least see how it ends, but buying is out of the question. I'm the last person to start a rant and/or other forms of complaining, but it's hard not to be bummed because the game client isn't allowing me in. I have also tried the updated driver. It has not improved anything.

What I would really appreciate(along with the 1,800+ who have viewed this thread) is some sort of update a couple weeks before launch.

That would be nice. Thanks.

I fully agree with you, DominusVita. If Bioware/EA is so focused on creating a virtual platform which is supposed to rival Steam, let it at least function properly.

Hi Guys,

In some cases problems that you are experiencing may have been solved in pre-release versions of Origin which are not yet pushed out to everyone.

If you are still experiencing issues you can try opting in to the Origin pre-release programme to get the very latest version.

1) Launch Origin.
1) Select the Gear Icon and click "Settings"
3) On the "General" tab scroll down and select “Update to the pre-release version if available”.
4) Re-launch Origin and you will be prompted to update to the pre-release build.

A screenshot here.

Hope that helps some of you out!
