donno if that is why ?

"ofc" now understood.

The only thing I can think of is a complete reinstall. Since EA got rid of online passes I don't think this could be the good old online pass issue? You may want to contact EA help. Having dealt with them before I would advise doing it on the phone and trying to get them to direct you to the "specialists". When the regulars handled my issues they ended up creating more issues than I had in the first place.

I'm having a really difficult time connecting to games. I haven't played MP in over a year, so is it just maybe less people are on nowadays or is it a connection problem on my end? I was able to join 2 games and then the next 30 minutes sat and kept trying to connect with no success.

Necro bump, but this is the most relevant thread.
Having a friend who could join me last night unable to join me today. I can't find a definitive guide on what to forward that seems relevant these days... is this the official thread?

The official statement is:

http://help.ea.com/t...-3-multiplayer/

Short version: Open port 3659 UDP

I know this is the same port that needs to be open for Battlefield 3 and 4, so it's probably the main EA server port.

You don't need to open a connection to search a game. TCP would be much more of a network burden for everything. If you don't believe me, ask HTTP....

I said joining, not searching. I always though that the search join procedure was:

1) get active lobbies from EA/Bioware servers (via UDP)

2) contact the advertised lobbies (via UDP) for free slots/actual status

3) join lobby (establish TCP connection)

And in case of invites (necessitates an active lobby with free slots), step 1 and 2 are disregarded. (At least I thought so)

The general behavior of the system is such that I am determined never to try to fathom its workings. The resulting brain damage would have inconvenient consequences for my ability to operate the espresso maker.

Streaming is always done via udp as it does not require receipts. I think joining is a maintained connection to the host.

It's best not to try to relate the properties of the transport layer to the functions of the application layer. For example, UDP is intrinsically connectionless, while TCP is connection based, but it's perfectly possible to build a connection based protocol using UDP (it's a standard student exercise) and the most widely used connectionless lower-application-layer protocol (HTTP) was built using TCP as the transport layer, for reasons that must have seemed like a good idea at the time - provided that the designers of HTTP knew nothing at all about how TCP works.(*)

(*) This may actually have been the case.

Anyone having trouble connecting to PSN right now?

On further investigation it seems that anything related to searching games/lobbies and actual playing (aka streaming of updates) is indeed done solely via UDP.

However, ME3 establishes several TCP connections to multiple ea servers in the process.

Uninteresting 'details' below (well, not really detailed, but whatever  )

Spoiler

Just in-case anyone else was interested in this....

What's wrong with connections? For about a week now 95% of games has such a lag that it's impossible to play. I have a proper university connection straight to the countrys backbone network, ping ~50ms all Europe and Russia and ~100ms to USA, so shouldn't be my connection (via speedtest). Is it the servers or am I just being really unlucky with hosts?

Edit - PC if it matters. I tried also with limited firewall and virus protection, other programs closed and I do not have any other problems with connections.

It could be because the number of people playing has gone down a bit  but I'm not sure as I'm not on pc.

Also it can depend on whether you're using a wired or a wireless connection. Wired connections are always preferable over wireless.
