Was playing with my infiltrator last night and had an interesting time on LOTSB.  Maybe it has happened to you, or maybe you have paid more attention but I managed to get squashed by a truck in the parking lot sequence. :)

Other than that I guess it was pretty standard.  I reaffirmed my belief that the Viper is the greatest gun for the hatch battle by using the Widow and the Shuriken, but the Broker is fat enough that the reload trick on the Widow works pretty well.  It does not work too great on Vasir since she is pretty fit.

Interesting, getting squashed, I didn't think of that possibility!

*scratches his head* can someone explain how the Viper is the greatest gun? If you're OSOK'ing everything but Vanguard and Engineers with the Widow, it has to be quicker than the Viper.

Infiltrator works wonders for the SB battle. Cloak to get him aggro'd on Liara. Headshot, headshot, headshot. Rinse and repeat.

Nope, sorry.

It's pretty simple really.  The most effective way to do that fight is to discharge the capacitors as soon as they build up charge each time.  Additionally, one shotting the standard mercs isn't a huge advantage because if you leave the engineers and vanguards to their own devices they just close on you and the squad.

The advantage of the Viper is that you can rapidly transition from targets and also eliminate them quickly while also hitting the capacitors as they are charged thus shocking the entire wave of enemies and getting massive CC.

As for the Broker, I didn't use cloak against him.  I used Incinerate to expedite reloads on the Shuriken and Widow until I closed and would use melee reload trick with the Widow.

*shrugs* The vanguards/engineers are 2-3 shot kills at most. But I stasis them to take them out of the fight. Eliminate the heavies first then normal troopers. The capacitors can be iffier with what they hit.

Ok.

But my observation is that if you are in a good position, which you should be if you have played the fight at least once before, then shoot the capacitors at the beginning and when they charged you will hit the entire wave and stack them on that half of the ship. At that point the basic mercs and even the heavies aren't too important. This also means your 3rd squad member isn't completely useless because you can start ragdolling unshielded basics. With Liara you can either stasis or use singularity on the more elite units. I prefer the later because the capacitors will also ragdoll them, and you can give them some help with the Viper.

If you are using the Widow exclusively then to reliably use the capacitors you end up wasting a bunch of shots, which does not help, or you have to cast singularity on the capacitor, which will only get you one.

Of course different strokes for different folks. Running around with just the Shuriken and Neural Shock also works... and dare I say not too different in speed than the Widow.

I'll have to play it that way for myself and see. I did do it with a Viper/Tempest Sentinel not too long ago but I can't remember focusing on the capacitors that much.

I think it makes it a lot easier. Granted, there are a hundred ways to do this fight. If you are crazy like some and only want to shoot at point blank range then the capacitors are harder to utilize.

I think I just forget they're useful and play it like any other fight.

Vanguard is fun because when you charge mooks they go flying off into the void.

Yep.  The last time as vanguard I also had Heavy Slam, which flings them off on the lift portion.

Other than being crushed by a truck once as well, there was another time, fighting at the hatch, when I charged an enemy who was already flying off into the sky... and I ended up flying off with him.

Lots of potential for stupid deaths in LotSB. :D

Yeah that happened to me the first time I played that with Vanguard.

Getting squashed was more my fault for not payng attention though because I was right where the truck wanted to land.

Stupid trick of the day.....Drop a singularity on the Capacitors and they discharge as soon as they are recharged by the Singularity.
