I play as an Infiltrator in-game because it's helpful when I get into tight spots.
The problem is that it doesn't work much. Unless Cerberus troops have some sort of vision to see cloaked people.

Many times when I've gotten into situations where Infiltrator cloak can get me out,
The enemy always sees me and continues to shoot at me.

I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to be, or it's an error.

I've noticed some enemies still "see" me when cloaked. Like one out of a group of 5 Cannibals would still shoot at me.

It works perfectly for me.

I think the Cloak works amazing, use to revive teamates, complete objectives, and melee Gaurdians without a problem.

If you cloak, enemies shoot at the last place they saw you, so you gotta move from cover to cover.

The only thing I've noticed is that Phantoms seem to spot me pretty easily. Not sure if they're designed that way or it's just that they like getting in your face.

works fine for instant melee kills

Like Joel said, cloak has a range, so if you are near enemies they might still see you. Also, when going into cloak, enemies may still fire a last shot at you, or if a projectile was heat-seeking to you it will keep homing in.

I tried soloing an MP map using an infiltrator with maxed out cloak and no matter where I cloaked in, enemies always knew where I was.

It seems cloak does not prevent you from being targeted, it only lowers your priority as a target. If there is noone else in the map, then cloak is useless.

Agree. I cloaked during my last Silver game right after I was revived (I was downed by a rocket geth). I was holding down the run button and running to the nearest cover. 3 seconds in, I was down again, this time with cloak power activated. My friend (who was in the same game as I was) commented when I cloaked, the Geths still saw through my cloak and shot at me even though my friend was just right next to them.

It seems random.

Sometimes my cloak makes the mob leave me. Sometimes it don't.

Altough Units such as Geth primes seem to see just fine through the cloak, and will target you from 200 yards away if no other target is available (they prioritize visible targets).

It's not a perfect cloak, just as you can faintly see hunters, enemies can see you if you get too close. I've noticed enemies tend to shoot in the direction you disappeared in, but as long as you cloak and run away from them, you should be able to escape without harm. There are a few enemies to watch out for that will try to find you however. They are not perfect at spotting you (an example being the Pyro shooting his flamethrower in random directions) but they will try.

They shoot at the area you were at when activating cloak, the theg see you if you get close to them.

I still don't buy the whole "visible range" thing.

For one, if I activate my cloak sufficiently far away from enemies while all my squad is dead in SP, enemies will mostly stay around still because they cannot detect me - while voicing that fact.

The thing is, cloak in MP is probably implemented in a different way to prevent cloaked camping. It does not render you invisible, just takes you to the bottom of the target priority list, even if you activate the cloak at a safe distance. The only problem with this is that if you are alone on a server, it renders the cloak useless because you're the only active target anyway. At least this is the feeling I'm getting.

Also I don't think the enemies in MP are programmed with a "line of sight" kind of targetting. They can usually spot and converge on you no matter how well hidden you think you are. It's probably a threat level/proximity function.

Still remember running a QI against Geth and hacking an objective right under the noses of 3 pyros. They were literally on top of me in a small cluster. I was cloaked and they were spraying flame EVERYWHERE. I guess since I was semi-crouched and cloaked they couldn't draw a bead on me. They definitely knew I was there, they just weren't exactly sure where to aim. Had to burn on OPS pack to get out of that mess alive. And sabotage... sabotage is your friend.

Against geth you have to remember the prime drone can see through your cloak so keep that in mind.
Cloak is perfectly fine as it is, if you know how to use it and allways remember to keep your distance, then you have a god mode.

In my experience, it works as stated in this thread. They shoot at where you were when you cloaked and they see you when you get too close.

Cloaking and reviving/capturing objectives works great when the enemies are all at a sufficient range.

could we get a circle around us when we cloak to show us ingame or could yall post a photo with a relative distance for cloak detection

I feel like the same way their cloak is not perfect because we can still see them, our cloak is not perfect either and they can still see us.

I dont know the exact game mechanics for it, but I like it!

(I did see the Bioware people posting about range)

Tactiacal Cloak works excellent. Of course if you cloak 2 meters in front of the enemy they'll shot in your direction and hurt or even kill you if you have no shields and low health.
