Post any comments you have about the vanguard class here, what upgrades you like etc.

P.S. I'm loving charging head on into the enemy, makes me feel like .

First question, who finds shockwave useful ??? I have no clue what to do with it. :P

Right now its my first main playthrough, leveled charge up all the way to get a full barrier back, shockwave is useful for Guardians, staggering them/exposing for shots from others to take them down easy, also works great as a way to retreat and knock the soldiers back after a dodge/quick roll

Charge is powerful but it's not only a weapon. Pretty useful to move around areas and becuause of it I managed to save a teammate once(no other class would've managed to save that player). Also those shield carries(Guardians?) went down more easily when you could charge at them and then flank behind. They either target your or your teammate. Either way they show their backs to someone. (You could always run towards them, but charging is fast and safe way to approach them)

Try get your cooldowns as low as possible (ditch all weapons except shotgun) then just constantly use charge and nova - occasionally throwing in a melee or shotgun.

I've realised that shockwave is actually a really powerful tool, once you get the cool down shorter, you can spam those pesky guardians and it knocks there shield out of the way. Sets them up for a blast to the face :D

When the skill tree splits, which choices are you guys taking? I'm thinking of going with lift shockwave over, recharge?

What i did was max out the charge first. Then work on shock wave. I have a Assault rifle and the middle smg. 97% cool down which is great. I charge than melee or unload my AR then i can either charge again or shockwave if surrounded.

Gonna get rid of the smg when i get a revelant or whatever the hell that machine gun is called so i can get a better cool maybe

Vanguard is pretty simple. Max Charge get 40% more barrier and the two melee evolutions, plus 100% recharge

Max Fitness next boost your barrier and melee/shotgun damage not power damage.

Shoot->Heavy Melee will kill anything in roughly a second(including Phantoms). Shotgun regular melee regular mooks.

Oh yeah only equip a shotgun. Get the melee damage mod. Profit.

I think this is a great way to go. The other abilities are handy, but charge and nova are an epic combo.

I like the shotgun, however going assault rifle and no other weapons gives you a faster biotic cool down so you basically are charging every 5 seconds, also nova and some fitness.

I found that shockwave and charge are very powerful abilities.

Has anyone had any luck with Nova? I have a few points in it, but it seems like it's not worth the risk.

Also, I've found that the only weapon that's necessary is the shotgun. You never really have to have any other with charge and a knowledge of the ammo box placements. The movement boost and cooldown reduction helps immensely.

I'm going with lift showckwave as well. It seems like it would really be helpful for your team as opposed to a slightly smaller cooldown.

Risk!?  thats Vanguards middle name. Nova is pretty tastey,  very devastating, gets me out of alot of close combat jams.

I'm about level 14. I just carry my submachine gun and pistol with almost no cool down and constantly charge and punch everything. I have fitness and alliance training pretty high for survivability and punch power.

Upgrade shockwave! It sucked in ME2 but will make u God in this game. Never thought I'd say it but I like the damn power now. Had it fully upgraded before charge even. lol

Nova has no CD. So...Charge, shotgun, melee, Nova, Charge?

If you have the right setup you really shouldn't need Nova all that much.

I just use it in case a charge goes bad, but if done right you should be able to charge, shoot, melee, and then charge again without using up your shields with Nova.

Is there any reason to use any Vanguard other than the human one? Do Vanguards of other species have any useful abilities worth giving up Shockwave or Nova for?

Drell Vanguards (play a level 20 one myself) have a very nice set of cluster grenades that mess people up. Their pull is also very useful to get rid of those annoying shields that the grunts occasionally have.

My style, just finished uploading.

Assault rifle only, full charge, half way into nova leveling, and about 3/4th's fitness.

*Edit, i dumped the assault rifle and now i use a Phalanx heavy pistol only.

Great stuff. Love the synergy between cryo ammo, charge and the heavy melee.

DrellGuard Vs NovaGuard

The NG starts with 500/500 health and barrier and DG starts with 500/250. The DG gets a movement speed boost with Fit 1. NG's lvl 6 passive gives -20% weight for all weapons. The DG's lvl 6 passive gives -30% weight for pistols. Don't have the other two VG's unlocked.
