Wrex generally has a deep amount of respect for the people he worked with during the hunt for Saren. I wasn't surprised by that line at all.

There is a difference between showing respect saying:

"Thanks for helping out. You're a good friend, Liara"

And:

"Thanks for heping out! You're my bestest friend in the galaxy, Liara, and no one could do better than you on this mission because you're the best!!"

I just think they overdid it.

I think it's odd. I keep wondering when he and Liara got so close, I never got the feeling they were before. I love his banter with Garrus that comes right after though. It makes me wonder what he'll say to other teammates in that scene when we get the actual game.

Not convinced. Because, seriously, one line of dialogue (from a game of how much text?) is a hell of a leap to going "it's like the writers were all  "whenever she's not onscreen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Liara?" ".

(That was a joke. A direct reference to a Simpsons quote, about a character in the Itchy and Scratchy show... Sorry, I just couldn't resist.^_^)

Garrus & Wrex works for me.

Actually, a similar line with Wrex & Ashley (instead of Liara) would work far better - especially since she and Wrex were a real Infiltrator's dream team in ME1 :police:

Besides that? Guess Wrex grew some respect for Liara in ME1. Although we never noticed it in that game, you can assume it happened. After all, the original crew became family of some sort.

I kind of always got the impression that ME1 squad was closer than the ME2 squad since we had mission debriefings all together, which was cool. Also the elevator conversations are quite enlightening. I suppose you still have to use your imagination to fill in the gaps. But that's the beauty of RPGs.

I remember that he showed respect for Liara's biotic ability in ME1, so perhaps he's refering to the fact his glad to have her watching his back in a fight? Besides, we don't know what he would say to squadmates who aren't Garrus (who he had the most tension with) or Liara, so it's pretty hard to judge.

I imagine he'll be pretty friendly with the rest of the ME1 cast as well, to imply that a good amount of camaraderie was built among the crew who hunted Saren. Much like how we never saw most of the ME1 non-squad ship crew interact with Shepard, yet Joker implies Shep was the glue keeping them all together.

I got that it was meant in a joking manner, though I didn't get the reference. Still quite the leap, m'dear, tho I guess sometimes referencing can be quite irresistible?

Yeah. Maybe he says something like that to Tali. I think the effect would be just as awkward in that case.

I see what you did there and I liked it...

You know what I'm currently asking myself?

I wonder if you can pick squadmates freely for that mission. I mean, what if you pick Vega instead of Liara - or Garrus? Does that change anything? ^

I always imagined that the characters did not just stand in one place on the ship but actually mingled as they went after Saren. In that time they developed relationships with each other ... the closest to the characters talking to each other was elevator rides which I loved.

If you had Wrex & Liara on the elevator then you heard them talking and so that line would not seem strange. Tali telling Garrus she;ll shoot him in the face would also not seem out of place if you took them along ... if you didn't then I'm sure that would confuse alot of people and feel out of character.

I'm glad that Bioware has decided to move past the player having to imagine the relationships and added interaction between the characters. Who knows, they may even have them hook up ... ah, the rage waiting in the wings.

Much of the demo was lacking context for the dialogue, You never really got to have any conversations and only a few times you could chose between a Ren or Par dialogue option. I felt like the demo left out much of what took place in between landing and finding Mordin and all that.
SO there really wasn't much context to be had.
I liked Wrex and Garrus dialogue. Wrex's evil wicked laugh, God I love Wrex he's just so awesome.

None of you paid attention to the fact that some serious amount of in-game time had passed by the time that part of the demo occurs?  Maybe they had a chance for Liara to save Wrex or at least become friends with him...

Didn't strike me as out of character. Wrex and Liara got along really well in ME1

I thought he was trying to get her in a bed. I mean did you see his eye when he said that.

That's what I thought too. Probably the mission comes in a time when the team has already passed through some rough stuff together (not counting ME1).

Without context, it did sound a little weird. Nothing major, though.

Yep ... It also didn't feel out of character when he almost bear hugged my Shepards either. That time fighting Saren got him back on track and that crew was there with him at the time. There would be camaraderie between the characters.

Yeah, that sounded weird. I never got that impression from Wrex, but then again, Liara was hardly present in my games.

This. Sure there's the "her biotics will be useful." line (before he's even seen her fight nonetheless. <_<) but other than that he was pretty neutral on her.

They didn't change it. He sounded the same in the cutscenes but only different in the actual gameplay because it was a bug and they had Wreav talking instead.

I'm hoping he's got a unique line for each squadmate. I'm really looking forward to seeing him talk to Tali/Ash/Kaidan.
