Ridiculously narrow FOV

And on this topic, there were a bunch of people modding one of the files to adjust FOV but that topic got closed and posts were deleted. Does anyone know why that happened? Were people there discussing how to mod multiplayer characters?

It is kind of the worst response Bioware could have given. They just need to address the issues many people have with the FOV (which is very easy, considering the modders did it in one week without prior knowledge) and the other things like the controls. Simple ignoring the stuff is even worse than just saying: "We are not going to change that in the future." If they just give an answer to the reasonable concerns of their costumers and maybe looked into fixing some of the issues, they would go a long way and I would be happy.

It would also be nice to hear from BioWare about using such edits and how that may affect the Multiplayer aspect of the game seeing how everything is found in that INI file for both SP and MP. If BioWare does not give us an official fix, I hope they don't go banning for modified files, when it could be something as crucial for users as a proper FOV. (btw, closing threads and deleting posts doesn't count unless there's a post from a staff member)

All of the animations are right there anyway, so I just can't fathom why it's not an option across the board.

I can't believe at the amount of irritation and hurdles Bioware is making us go through for something as simple as a FOV fix.

I can understand that Bioware won't be happy with people using modded files in multiplayer. How about singleplayer though? Is Origin going to block my account even if use a modded file only in singleplayer? I suppose I could block Origin from accessing the internet once the original installation and activation is done, and then allow internet access only when patches are released.

heh, they won't give an answer. they're afraid we won't like the answer and won't spend money on the game. at least if they wait, some people will buy the game, mod, and get banned. to them that's better business than being up front with us and some people not buying the game.

When it comes to multiplayer... FOV is irrelavant..
this goes back to those that were complaining that people with 16:10 or 16:9 widescreen monitors prior to them becoming the norm, would have extra viewable field of view natively due to the way many of the games worked... Trying to restrict the camera resolution/ratio would just wreck it on widescreens.
It is even more irrelevant if you consider those with successfully running eyefinity displays which triples the field of view in terms of left and right information, but FOV remains to narrow on those displays... (it however does help significantly)
There is REALLY zero excuse why the PC version doesn't have an option for this at all. None what so ever... PERIOD... keeping it locked without any way to change it will only spur more people to find methods to do it... so their efforts are even more counter productive by hiding it.

I can understand not allowing really high FOV's (like anything over 110), but this 50 degree FOV we have now is annoying and nauseating.
The default FOV is 70 degrees horizontal. 50 would be seriously low, even by console standards.

I wonder if with that "will not increase visual quality" , he in reality he means how we will be able to see the horrible lowres character textures more constantly.Fredvdp wrote...
Actually there was a comment from one of the devs on Twitter. I think it was Corey Gaspur (combad designer) who said the camera placement was carefully considered and that increasing the FOV will not increase the visual quality. This is BS of course, but at least we got an answer.Palladin123 wrote...

So what's the deal Bioware? You've deleted the posts that actually tried to fix a MASSIVE issue for PC gamers (FOV) and you are still yet to give any official word on this problem?
Can we please get some decent support for this platform!? Hell, just say something, like you are investigating the issue... anything is better than just ignoring us.
Totally agree. First there's no comment on the FOV issue fix, and then when some gamers try to fix it themselves, Bioware decides to delete all the posts. I would have thought that a company like Bioware with its roots in PC gaming would understand the idea of gamers modding their games.
also the FOV issue hardly as anything to do visual wise.. but playability/gameplay wise.

then they up and delete the thread where the modding guys had come up with workarounds, and still won't clarify if modding the game after full release will be punishable or if they won't care. it's cool though, i'm not buying it until it's been out a few weeks and we see if people get banned for modding a single player game. if so, i'll keep my monies.

At least with higher FoV I'd be able to play it, then. I currently will not be purchasing OR playing this game, because playing the demo gave me nausea and an utterly crippling headache, in a very short time span. It's not that I don't want to play it. I do, badly. It's that I, simply, cannot.
Which really makes me <#@$%!> upset, because, damnit, I want to play this game. I finally have the money to pre-order it, but I haven't, and I won't. I can't justify purchasing something I know I won't be able to play in its vanilla form. I'll have to have my fingers crossed that the game's FoV will still be moddable post-release, and I'll be able to do it. Then, maybe I'll be able to purchase it.
I don't care about cutscenes (I can make it through those with low FoV, so long as action takes place in higher FoV), I don't care about (and won't be playing) multiplayer. Leave the crippled FoV for those, if you must. Just give the gameplay a higher FoV. I just want to experience the end of the story I've been invested in for years.

Edit: The exact quote is "Much care was put into the placement of the camera, a wider FOV does not look as good as you would think."

With regards to the dev comment about increased FoV not increasing visual quality: I wouldn't care if increased FoV even further lowered the current texture/visual quality of the game. Not one bit.

oh it will be possible to mod it(at least for PC), that's already proven. the demo was dissected in less than 48 hours and FOV, holstering, the single button use key, and gamepad support(albeit crude) already all had workarounds. but they deleted the thread.

I hate when devs feed us this kind of BS. FOV doesn't change the position of the camera in any way.

Yep i did too and this guy is definitely stupid. No one ask for the game to look better, just wider. I don't why they obsess about the game looking worse. Really?
These guys are ****ing clueless. This is pathetic.

Sure, you're not the only one. It all depends on your screen size, distance from monitor, and if your are sensitive to FOV issues where you get nausea or headaches from it. Also, in multiplayer the damn Turian and Krogan characters block too much of the screen with such a zoomed in FOV in my opinion.

Bioware and EA know they have a awesome franchise on their hands and that people are going to line up to buy it. It's a bit like Harry Potter - people would have bought the last book even if the publishers had printed it on mouldy papyrus. The readers were invested in the storyline and the characters. And it's the same with ME3. Most of us here really want to find out how this story ends.
Many of us with FOV headaches will end up playing the game sooner or later. Those of us with severe issues will find some way to mod it. What this all is going to do though is to reduce the goodwill that Bioware has with its customers. They used to be (and to a good extent still are) one of the premier old school gaming studios. They have lots of goodwill with people who've grown up with Baldur's Gate, NWN, KOTOR etc. But goodwill in any business is limited. Customers will give a company the benefit of the doubt the first time, second time and maybe even the third time, but not forever.

The most people here know that you can mod the game for a better FoV, but with Origins you pretty much risk getting banned for good if you mod the game. Also we would like a official version or at least some statement form Bioware about the FOV. It is kind of the biggest (reasonable) complain and there are a couple of threads about it, but no reaction.
