That's an awful generalization.
Besides, that's the point. She didn't.

Meh, maybe I picked the wrong state to live in, then. It seems less like a generalization when a clear majority of the females you've met in real life either are New Ashley or want to be New Ashley.

You mean being soldier or being Barbie?

And you see, the problem is a fact that she wasn't Barbie before. She was convincing as a soldier. They have changed her. And that's what the fuss is about. Not because there is Miranda in ME. But because they are changing other characters into Miranda, and it doesn't matter if it's absolutely out of character.

AND BTW, if you live in one of those states where they force little girls to be "Little Miss" and teach them from the beginning that all that matters for a girl is looking good for men, then don't think it's the same in the rest of the world.

From the limited things I've seen, it seems odd that even her face structure appears different. When that changes, it might as well be a new character. She has a good look, just oddly different.

I think it will all depend on how they did this "character development". If they add stuff to her that seems out of place for what she was like/said/believed in ME1 then yes they will have ruined her. I know it is a major concern I have.

No I think she looks great. I don't care if it goes against real militairy protocol. Its just a game. If you have a problem with Ashley's redesign then boohoo! Thats your problem then.

I mean being slim, curvy, busty, sleek-haired and make-up'd.

Which is fine by me if you leave out the make-up (I'm one of those freaks of nature who considers make-up a turn-off). But the point is women often wish to look like Barbie but then those same women turn around and complain that female characters who look like Barbie are somehow degrading to them. It kind of steals credibility from the ones who genuinely consider it degrading, y'know?

For the record, I do think they overdid the sex appeal aspect a bit on Ash's new design, just not as much as people here are saying. Her bust is fine, thanks. Really, it's not even that big, nor is her "catsuit" especially revealing. I prefer her in her CG heavy armor, of course, but Miranda's a lot, lot worse in this regard. I still think removing the heels and changing her hairstyle to a basic ponytail would preserve the most important aspects of her visual "character," perhaps toning down the make-up as well since she seems a bit heavier on the lip-gloss and eyeshadow in this rendition.

AND BTW, if you live in one of those states where they force little girls to be "Little Miss" and teach them from the beginning that all that matters for a girl is looking good for men, then don't think it's the same in the rest of the world.

Not a state where it's forced on anyone, just a place where the majority of gals just generally fall into the trope of their own volition. To clarify: I'm not exactly a proponent of the stereotype, I just encounter it far too often to avoid a dash of cynicism when it comes to complaints like that one.

Why does Ashley get promoted so much faster than Kaiden?

She has gone from E8 to O4 in the time it took him to go from O2 to O4.

Perhaps she is just extra friendly to all her superiors.....

As someone else noticed before - context is everything. Strong makeup, heels, loose hair on battlefield? Best indicator of oversexualization and objectification of female characters. Now, if she was that on private - OK, although when it comes to that specific character, doesn't see it. But at least it wouldn't be nonsensical like it is now.

Most of them are rather no soldiers, so they can't fall into this trope. And even if they were soldiers, like I said above they couldn't look that while being on duty.

And most of all, we're not talking about "women in general", but specific character who has been changed in the most nonsensical manner and absolutely agains that character's integrity just to please the most common stereotypical teenage male tastes. And that's objectification.

I agree that her face definitely looks different, which is concerning. Hair changes, that's not a huge deal, but facial structure shouldn't. And whatever she was wearing at the beginning of the ME3 demo didn't seem very Ashley-ish.

I like Ashley's new look. I also liked her previous look.

That said, I'm still not going to romance her.

I think she looks way better now. Prettier, sexier and way more feminine.

Well, it's a good thing Ash has a suit of armor on standby, then. *points to the CG trailer*

That armour only came because fans complained.

Also she still has her hair out.

No. All your moaning and groaning did was cause headaches and many locked topics. They always intended for Ash to have armor, the Casey tweets and script leak proved that... people here were just too blind to see it.

Anyway, she looks fine. I thought she looked hot in ME1 and I still think she looks hot in ME3. Ever since ME1, I've always wondered what she looked like without her hair tied up 24/7. Now that I've got that wish, she looks great.

Yeah, she looks fine. Apparently it all that matters to some, since obviously not character's integrity or common sense like tying hair before going into battle...

It's sad actually, because it shows that psychological makeup of character doesn't matter, all that's important to apparent ME main target is creating a pretty doll. Why do they even bother with voice actors...

I really despise Ash's new look it looks so not Ash. I liked non Barbie Ash that was good looking with no need for over done Sex Appeal, the fact She looked like well average was cool, BW went and added what looks like Make Up and all that cr@p not to mention they gave her an outfit that looks like well it's Miranda'ized to show off all her curves and shapes like Miranda was made for.

I liked Ash before looking like she was more of a Tom Boy not a Barbie, she would just punch ya and lay ya out for treating her like a Sex Object unlike Miranda who enjoys being a sex object.

The new look is So not Ash.

You're right. Game's gone gold, but ya know? F THAT! Let's delay the game a couple months so we can re-design Ash(and every other female character that's not in a tin can) because she couldn't put her hair in a freakin bun.

There's no valid excuse for her out-of-combat attire. It's absurd.

Still, not as bad as Miranda, Samara, and Jack.

Might as well add Jacob, Thane, and Vega's out-of-combat attire to that list.

Jacob and Thane are similarly ridiculous for combat situations, this is true. Frankly, I've gotta raise an eyebrow at Quarian marines not having anysort of extra protection over their suits.

What's wrong with Vega's, though? Last I saw, it was just normal clothes.

Take a picture of somebody, wait two years, and then take another picture and compare. People change, and so does their appearance. This happens in real life, why shouldn't it happen in games as well? Her character model also looks more realistic thanks to the updated tech and BioWare rebulding the model itself.

Personally, I thought it was a little ridiculous that she looked exactly the same in ME2 despite the fact that it had been two years since Shepard had last seen her. She should have looked this way in ME2, or at least some sort of change.

Probably wouldn't take even that long; all they'd probably have to do is get a model of Ash's old look ready and pop it in where the current one is. ME's animations aren't nearly precise enough that the drastic change in haircut would affect anything, since it's always made of hyper-stiff rubber no matter how much hair there is.

Agreed, people change, deal with that. Ashley's changed a lot, her looks are probably just a part of what's new about her. Maybe you guys just don't like Ashley anymore.

I just makes no sense. If it's supposed to be some sort of Alliance uniform, then why is nobody else wearing anything like it?

Usually not in such sudden, jarring fashion, mind. When we last saw Ashley in ME2, she looked exactly the same as she had three years before, and yet now, mere months after that, she's suddenly taken to excess make-up and impractical hair and footwear on the battlefield.
