Oh wow, animations are horrible now

Animations don't "suck up RAM". It's the interpolation that does it - The smoothing between frames of animations. Actual animations are measured in kilobytes, not megabytes, i don't see why there wouldn't be enough memory on either the disk or ram to do this properly especially after well.. The first game.
There is no excuse for not even getting the basic movement right. At this point even Bethesda has gotten animations right up to a certain point and i can't see why Bioware has actually gotten worse. This is not a matter of 'priorities' - This is something you will be staring at throughout the entire game without a first person option. This is not something that should be skimped on, especially in a game that prides itself in its "cinematic quality".
Some may call this nitpicking, and maybe it is. However, nitpicking in a massive production like this is perfectly valid, especially when it concerns parts of the game you will be stuck with and looking at throughout it's entire duration. One wonders why people are so content to keep their blindfolds on.
Garrus' blurry face in ME1 almost seems okay by comparison to this... :/
I still pre-ordered the game. I'm still going to finish it. I'm playing through 1 and 2 again to get another Shepard ready. However, that doesn't mean i can't be critical of the game's faults. The first games were not perfect by any measure, neither will the third be, but pretending that it's perfect in every single way is not correct either and tbh, for the poohah Bioware is sticking into the game any criticism should be welcomed and either responded to with a defense or fixed accordingly.
A simple question i've yet to see answered in any official form: Why couldn't the standard animations from ME1 be used in ME2 and 3? IF it has anything to do with consoles, why would it have been impossible on the PC?

How does it affect your enjoyment in any significant way though?
Unless you're playing the game for the mechanics alone I don't see how it would be a deterrent to something as broad and expansive as ME3.
As one poster above said, it's an immersion breaker.
Not just that though. It just irks me knowing that I've paid for mediocrity from a game developer...
Ever played Batman Arkham City? It's the best comic book hero game ever, and one of the best games of all time. The metacritic score is insane.
Anyway, Rocksteady, an amateur developer with only one title under their belt managed to pull off something that Bioware has never been able to do, despite their much greater experience.
Rocksteady made a game (using UE3.5) that gave their fans/consumers high resolution textures, PhysX, 3D Vision, realistic looking hair and hair physics, smooth animations, awesome gameplay.....and the list goes on.
Now if Rocksteady can do it, why can't Bioware? Bioware can do it I have no doubt, but they cut one too many corners, and thats mostly because their fanbase allows them to do so.
How many times have I heard on these forums,"You don't play Bioware games for the graphics, you play them for the story."
But who says we have to choose between a great story and great graphics? The two have been merged successfully before many times, and since Bioware is supposedly a AAA developer, you'd think they'd have the capability to do it.
But they always fall short, due to laziness I think.
Arkham City is an action game that has one single direction the story can take.
Mass Effect is an Action-RPG that includes mechanincs like leveling up, power and weapon customization, armor customization, not to mention the crazy amount of characters involved, the story can evolve in very different ways based on decisions previously made and you still need reasonably expansive areas to allow for exploration.
Now, I'm not sure if you know how game development works, but if you think getting all of that in the same space, and getting a performance that can equal that of Arkham City's is simple, you would be wrong.
They have to cut SOME corners, like any developer.
This does not necessarily signify lazyness, it just means they have a LOT more on their hands than Rocksteady.
Rocksteady works within an already established universe, which means all they have to do is have Paul Dini write the story and have their team work on mechanics (which are significantly less than Mass Effect's).
stop making excuses, Rocksteady, a no name studio before Batman was able to have animations like that? How come Bioware couldn't stick with the animations from ME1/ME2 instead of making it worse?

A game can be postponed, yet rushed.
Maybe they needed even more. Maybe it's a 3 years development compressed in a year and half.

You are aware that they started work on ME3 directly after ME2...right? DLC for ME2 was done by smaller teams.

But there's something horribly stiff/robotic how Shepard walks. For whatever reason Shepard lower back and butt don't seem to move at all if ever. It really does look like Shepard's torso is suspended in mid-air and your legs are simply sweeping the groung. Also I tried sprinting for a good distance and yeah I have to say the analogy Shepard looks like they are running with a diaper full of poop, is a pretty good description.

They are hardly excuses. Facts are facts. If you want to atribute the shortcomings the game might, in your opinion have, to something at least know the facts.

@masseffect Can anyone affiliated with BW/ME reassure that the complete game is going to be more polished?
@nme_insane Rest easy! The demo is just a demo and there will be far more in the full game

It wasn't postponed for detail / polish work as much as it was postponed so as not to get completely crushed by the BF3 / COD Juggernauts at the end of 2011.
Since now ME3 and those games share the same target demographic, they needed to make sure to launch ME3 during a less "competetively challenging window".

Note they didn't answer the question.
"Will it be more polished"
"There will be more in the full game"
So if the demo's a turd, the full game is just more turds.

Something along the lines of:
"The demo was from a build [x] months old, and doesn't represent the final game. In the final build, the animations are smoother, some of the character creator options have been tweaked, and overall it's a tighter package".
But yeah he didn't say that. He did the adult equivalent of pointing and saying "Look over there" then running away.

@masseffect Can you guys reassure us that the full game will be more polished than the demo? Would allay many a concern. Thank you.
@gaiden96 The full game is expanded with more features, more options, and further polish to the main mechanics.

People are intitled to post what they want.
Granted it can strain your paitience a bit, but don't insult people unless they have done something to merit that.

I don't know what people are so concerned about, I have played this demo over and over again, at least 4 times per class(which is kind of sad when you think about how long it's been out), and I have never seen any of these animation problems that you are talking about. I might just have gotten lucky, but so far these seem to be false concerns for me.

Has a developer posted in this topic, why does it have Bioware sign?
I have decided never to use sprinting feature but walking with a gun is just as horrible, glidey, unnatural, no weight to it, it's like it has been made by someone who never did spohisticated animations.

I think the problem is that the animations are made for an armored shep so when you put them in regular clothes (like in the first part of the game) they end looking really weird.

Well they had to put the extra animations away to make room for the rest of the SUPERB graphics.

I laughed at how bad the animations were in Lagrim. A whole new level of crap thanks to Bethesduh.
Yeah well. I guess they could have tested it on an actual Atari 800 before they claimed compatibility and shipped it. Just lazy, money hungry....
Gameplay on my machine is smooth as silk, with nothing but 2048K and 4096K textures making the world look like I was viewing it through a window instead of on a screen. Characters move and fight like people. Not constipated droids with crutches for legs. And they did that in the vanilla game before I took advantage of a modding community that enables players to reach any level of visual perfection they can stand. In a game that allows for unending exploration and infinite questing with no requirement to follow scripting whatsoever. I don't slow down until there are 20-30 people on screen fighting at once plus animals via my War in Skyrim mod. And that's with particle effects from mages and dragons.
WIth all due respect, I have to wonder if you've even played it.
There's really no view of Bethesda's developmental heights from even the roof of the Bioware building. Bethesda has delivered this over six TES games alone not to mention four Fallout titles that are almost as huge. Much as I love Mass Effect, and would buy any new ME title, attempting to laugh at Skyrim given the challenges TES presents to its devs is absurd. The company redefined and set the standard for CRPGs that no company to follow can even quantify beyond urban legend.
