Comparing a game like Arkham City to Mass Effect 3 - which isn't even out - is like comparing apples and oranges.
You're right, Arkham City has exploration and RPG elements.

Also, I do kind of have a problem with not being able to holster a weapon; that problem is that with weapons out, you are eternally in the "ready to shoot" position, even long after all enemies are killed. Not very realistic, very stiff-looking. If there could at least be an "at ease" position with the gun held at your side when in a combat area after enemies are dealt with, that would be nice...

Console limitations with memory of animations and no PC optimization <-- It's a wonder why PC players even want to buy the game at full price.

^^ OH PLEASE... dont tell me you are going to fall for that excuse....
that is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard an official company representative ever say. We have seen open world games with much more complicated and better animation than ME3 and they had no issues. If Bioware cant do it, then I am sorry but the reason is that they simply SUCK at coding...

Why the hell would you walk around with your gun holstered in a combat zone...
It doesn't make sense that they "took out walking animations for space" ...because we're not going to be walking around the normandy with our guns... so...
Are we going to be running around in the clubs & public places also. While all the other animations are walking?
In combat zones, you have the gun out. In normal places, you holster the gun.
I would not, but neither would I walk around with my arms extended out holding a weapon when there is clearly no threat at that time, bloody arms would become fatigued, not a lot of help if another fight starts and your arms are too tired to aim properly.graciegrace wrote...

Take a large stick, jam it up your butt, then you'll be able to walk like they do in ME3.

I think it's probable that they wouldn't have to face this decision if they were making the game for PC or PS3 instead. However, what you wrote is true - while we don't have all the details it's very possible that a different, better developer who doesn't suck as much as Bioware would've found a solution or workaround to overcome this limitation.
