I'd like to see someone else's log to see if I can't figure out if there's an intermediate step I can fix. Other than that, not much I can think of. Running out of ideas. There's no good reason for that kind of failure. I'm not sure what it's calling that is missing or why it would be looking for it related to uninstalls. Anyone have a good breakdown of ME3 registry keys? Maybe I can pre-generate the reg keys (or at least the folders) to see if I can't get it to stop doing stupid things. It's a long shot, but I've tried the obvious fixes, and the last entry on the log isn't terribly specific. No DEP, no firewall, no AV, before anyone asks. Run with UAC enabled, but that obviously isn't going to have an impact.

Might have to take this one to the EA/Origin forum, but I figure that users around here would have the most relevant experience. To be honest, I'd just walk away as I'm not keen on supporting the existence of Origin and probably won't buy ME3 on it (and if it never shows up elsewhere, I'll probably skip out on the title altogether), but I hate leaving a problem un-fixed.

(The rest of this message was a rant about how much I hate programs like Origin. I have removed it in the interest of not being banned before my question is answered.)

I really dont know that this will help, but I'll throw it out there.

That same problem seemed to bite a lot of people with BF3 as well, and the only thing I could see was that someone said that when Touchpad ran it was throwing up a UAC alert within Windows that was messing with things.

You could always try changing the compatibility settings for that file and checking the box to let it "Run as Administrator" and hope.

LikeI said, very long shot, but best I've got, and Google doesn't have any solid answers that I could find anywhere with a quick look.

Plenty of BF3 owners were/arent happy about that problem.

Best of luck.

Tried UAC. Tried compat mode with Vista just in case. No dice. Reinstalled Origin. No dice. Cleared every bit of program data I could find. No dice. Gave up. Walked away. Came back. Mashed button repeatedly out of frustration.

Installs.

I don't even want to guess what its problem was. Log provides no guidance on the issue. Next entry was "Installing GDF". Noteworthy lack of registry activity. I really don't know what to make of it. Probably couldn't replicate success if I tried. If there was some magical combination of tweaks that resulted in success, I couldn't tell you which came together to produce a successful execution of the useless little script that caused the problem. *sigh*

Just in case, running prime/occt to re-check for potential errors. Nothing yet. Will report if hardware issue could possibly be culprit (but I'd be damn shocked if it were).

Oh well. Anyone else having this problem should just cross his fingers, I guess.
