I'm trying to launch the ME3 demo, but get an error message saying that I'm missing a DLL, but the name of it is in Japanese/Chinese/Asian text.

What the hell's going on here?

PS: Who's dumb idea was it to make it so that you can't select and copy the error message?

Here's a screenshot of the error:

Support was no help, simply advised reinstalling a lot. :/

Interesting. Mine's a bit different, the string of characters is much smaller.

I've reinstalled twice already, tried repairing install, have completely updated Windows and tried rolling back my drivers. No success. Will now try re-updating drivers.

Update: Latest drivers didn't help.

It's definitely an Origin problem since people were getting the same error for Kingdoms of Amalur.

Did they ever figure it out?

Anybody with the issue care to run Dependency Walker on it and see which (first order) DLLs it is trying to load? The error might be a genuine bug and it's nothing to do with a missing DLL, but it's the only sensible thing I can see to investigate without breaking out a debugger. There's nothing weird on my system, but I don't have the problem.

I see it calls the following directly from ORIGIN.EXE:
qtwebkit4, qtxml4, qtgui4, qtnetwork4, qtcore4, kernel32, user32, gdi32, advapi32, shell32, ole32, oleaut32, msvcp100, msvcr100, shlwapi, dbghelp, psapi, version, wininet, winmm, ws2_32, iphlpapi, crypt32, ssleay32, and libeay32.

I should note that shell32 calls shdocvw, which in turn calls ieframe which claims it cannot load ieshims, but this is merely because it's delay loaded - this is not actually an error.

OriginClientService.exe depends on:
kernel32, user32, advapi32, shell32, msvcp100, psapi, msvcr100, wintrust, crypt32 (this also has a delayed load dependency upon ieshims).

I used Process Monitor but I didn't see any missing DLLs, there was a lot of activity from EACoreServer and Activation.exe right around the time the error pops up.

I used Dependency Walker (DW) and apparently IESHIMS.DLL is missing. After adding C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer to the PATH variable and copying the file to windows\\system32, (DW) shows three problems with functions in IEFRAME.DLL.

I found some online suggestions to reinstall IE9, and my suggestion is to NOT follow them. I uninstalled IE9, and now am stuck as the reinstall fails with a very helpful error of "Couldn't complete install" on the first try, and "IE9 is already installed" on following ones. So now I've lost IE9 which, for whatever reason, caused some further issues in other applications, and ME3 still doesn't work:/

Edit: It's Win7 32-bit.

Whoops! Please read my full post above magikal81 :( The ieshims is NOT actually a missing DLL because it's a delayed attach process. Sorry you've got this problem. Please use a restore point to go back before this mess and you should be fine again. I still have no further ideas for anyone to try though.

I used a restore point, but the only one was just before a failed reinstall of IE9, and *after* the uninstall, so it didn't help much. And I don't think I'll bother with a full system reinstall for just that:|

I just tried another uninstall/reinstall of both Origin and ME3 demo to test, no updates and still not working.

I have tried the following:

Uninstalling/reinstalling nVidia drivers (tried latest beta and latest WHQL)
Uninstalling/reinstalling DirectX
Uninstalling/reinstalling Visual Studio Runtime
Uninstalling/reinstalling Origin/demo (several times)
Uninstalling AV
Running with selective startup (only Windows services)
Running as another user

What is the name of the demo in your Origin?
I've noticed that when I'm trying to run the demo the name on the game list switches from "Demo Mass Effect 3" to "Mass Effect 3 Demo" for a second, then switches back and then tells me to go and kiss myself passionately untill one thing leads to another, beacuse of the invalid license.

I have been searching the other EA boards, it looks like this issue has happened with BF3, Kingdom of Amalur, and obviously the ME3 demo. This issue is affecting a LOT of people, but I haven't even seen any suggested fixes.

I opened another game advisor ticket last night, only advice was to reinstall Windows completely. There has GOT to be a better way.
