So of all the 'metal' in advertising , they use some alternative rock as the final song? Why?

How does metal go with medieval fantasy? Alternative rock(if it's not pearl jam and other bands) is garbage, but metal and fantasy? What?
Symphonic metal, power metal, gothic, folk metal... anyone?
There are plenty of metal bands that deal almost exclusively with fantasy related lyrics sooooooooo
I suggest you make your research on metal genres before coming to such conclusions as metal certainly isn't just Metallica (which I love btw but admit it wouldn't fit with this setting)
I agree some symphonic metal would have gone great with a game like dragon age, the disney pop rock crap they had at the end was just terrible.

Well, Great bands as "Blind Guardian" does not have mass diffusion, so they consider it's not worth to use some of their Majestic "Bard's" songs.
Metal music is still alive because is non-commercial... better then raw commercial music.
Blind Guardian would have been the best possible band for the DA setting.

Also, Equilibrium, Ensiferum, Turisas and especially Nightwish, would fit Dragon Age a LOT more than Rock.
Oh most certainly. Especially Nightwish. And Ensiferum.

I agree that the alt rock song was an absolutely atrocious choice especially in that it annihilated the the mood created by the moving "I am the one" as I was basking in the melancholic aftermath of the ending. Something akin to Mass Effect's Faunts (congruent with the game's atmosphere and spirit) would have been infinitely more preferable.
This. The Faunts song actually fitted the atmosphere of Mass Effect. Alternative rock doesn't fit with DA.

That said, I would have loved Nightwish for the ending credits. BioWare! I expect better next time!

A lot of metal is more... action packed than what is suitable for an ending credit. You want something that can bring the audience down, that can evoke a sense of finality not some awesome shredding and blood pounding lyrics.
There are a lot of metal bands out there that could fit this bill. Proper metal is not all form with no substance; it's about ideas and aesthetic. The best metal is passionate and evokes vivid imagery in the mind of the listener.

Don't get me wrong, I love metal and think that there are lots of suitable songs out there that would work. But just saying you want 'metal' as the ending song doesn't really mean much especially since there are some design choices that need to be considered when picking a song for the credits.
I was pretty 'meh' over their choice, but at least it wasn't Manson.

but no, to be honest, I thought that song just....did not remotely fit, I do recall a very blunt " What the hell?!?" escaping my lips, and waking up my oldest son who's room happens to share walls with the downstairs bar ( yes my downstairs living room has a full service bar in it, and thats where the big good TV, and game systems are * lol)
You know what I would have liked ? " as it would have worked for one of my characters" something like pub crawlers or some such, just for a giggle.

Not that the song is bad (subjective, I don't like it) but it's not right for Dragon Age. Heck, the sacred ashes trailer wasn't very reflective of the actual game either.
It's no wonder people come to these forums complaining that the game is not what they expected. The marketing for it was horribly deceptive if you never actually bothered to dig deep into developer interviews and such.

Yes the game is good but not as all hardcore as I thought it was going to be. But how could you make a rpg that hardcore and not kill off most of the single player fanabase anyway?
