Yeah, I agree. "A" is the set action button, and having "A" set as Cover, Roll, and every other Action button gets in the way.

What if you have to Revive a teammate next to a ladder? Do you go up the ladder instead of reviving him/her?

EDIT:  I know you have to maneuver the joystick to highlight the teammate, but in the chaos of a battle things can get hectic, and pressing the right button to get the wrong result is just frustrating.

I think this thread needs a little necromancy.

I usually don't have an issue with A doing everything, but in some cases with revive it can really screw up everything: I'm the last man standing and there's enemies all over the place. I try to hit A and take cover to be able to survive and take the enemies out before reviving my comrades OR I try to hit A and make cartwheels to avoid fire and escape to be able to pick the enemies off (when I play Shadow). But if I'm anywhere near a fallen comrade I just start to revive him instead and get a face full of rockets and other nasty stuff instead of taking cover/avoiding fire. That's _really_ annoying.

it needs necromancy indeed

i stoped counting how many times the A/X/space bar key took me down and sometimes even led us to mission failure

same button does everything, greatest design known to man, seriously who'se the genius who came up with that -__-

It seems likely that the refusal to give options on key bindings (I'm on PC) has something to do with maintaining code for both consoles and PC being simpler for them. Think of the variety it adds though...we now have 4 enemies...cerberus, reapers, geth, and the keyboard bindings. Keyboard bindings closely resemble a husk.

It's absolutely infuriating when you're trying to revive inder fire.

Separate the interact function from cover/sprint/dodge.

E.g. F key is interact and spacebar is cover/sprint/dodge.

Not sure how this would be done on console, could move interact to the X/Square button like someone suggested.

Consoles have buttons under the analoge sticks. Buttons that get used by every other shooter out there. There are enough butons on consoles and keyboards to have done this right from the start. Dodge being a click and storm being a hold could have gone onto one side, taking cover on the other, leaving the A button as the interact button for reviving teammate and for activating objectives.

in me you had 1 button for use and 1 button for the sprint /roll/sidestrafe actifvation, it got changed in me2 (confused the **** out of me the other week when i was replaying ot swap choices from the begining in the sp game) dunno why they changed it but its prolly something to do wiht the way consoles are programed ot map, personally i would of liked to see it remain seperate cos its annoying as hell to try n activate /use something nad either roll or crouch all the time

In my opinion the 2 worst things about ME3 are the Vanguard glitch and this.

I mean, seriously, what idiot wouldn't realise that having everything context sensitive one button was ever going to be a good idea?

Of course, everyone is going to have ther own ideas on what button should do what, and we also have to remember that whatever configuration it is has to be compatible with both PC and Xbox.

The solution? Simple. Just allow the player the choice to configurate all the buttons. That would solve everything.

Not just for revive either, but for all the other stuff on the X button too. If I had a PSP for every time i've been killed because I wanted to cover/dodge/sprint/jump over a wall or even revive and ended up doing something completely different I would probably have a maxed manifest by now. GRRRR!
Especially when Primes are around, rolling when you really REALLY want cover is pretty much guaranteed death.

Yes, please add this option.

The most annoying problem is when you want to dodge and are not targeting an ally near you yet the game decides you will try to revive him then missles hit, banshee lifts or phantom 1 shots you. I can understand IF i was targeting my teammate but the terrible game mechanics just decide since you are in the general vicinity you will be forced to try and revive instead of dodging.

Then when you have your ally targeted half the time and are near him the game decides you are trying to go into cover instead of reviving him... makes no sense.

Yup. What idiot thought A button should do everything?! Fire him Bioware!

I get killed all the time trying to revive people only to find myself vaulting over cover into a Guardians face, for example. Make it B or X. B means you couldn't melee while standing next to someone needing revive, but even that's gotta be better than what we have now.

i suppose this isn't the first thread about it, so i will ask to the people who have been around BSN since the begining

did Bioware ever said a word about this ?

my guess is no, since devs tend to talk about a lot of stuff excepts for those that matters the most

One button to do everything, yet it always seems to choose the worst possible action.

Want to dodge? Reviving.

Want to revive? Let's duck into cover.

Dont know if your A button does anything else than reviving(i assume its same with PCs) but while playing with a pc we revive with space key, which is also sprint, roll&cover and use.
I look like monkeys when i try to revive someone, rolling on my squad mate or sprinting to unknown...

This.

I also enjoy the time lapse on the revive while in the heat of battle. Run to fallen comrade with bullets flying, tap space bar. Nothing. Tap it again - oh wait, the first one did actually work, but it's taking light years to activate, which means I'm dead three times over due to the hail of bullets. I've had a fully shielded krogan sentinel get dropped while trying to rev a teammate due to the buggy/lagging revive. I realized I was going to die, but I stayed there trying to rev out of spite, just to see how retarded the system truly is. Yeah, it was that retarded.

I'm getting a little tired of the following as well:

1. Sticking to every corner I try to run around, especially with phantoms/banshees/brutes on my tail
2. Slow animation causing me to play the gopher game when trying to take cover (up, down, up, down,...)
3. Walking when I want to run (spacebar run animation broken due to reload/lag/stupidity)

I want to press ''X'' instead of ''A'' to revive. If you missed the revive, reloading is much better than evading over your fallen teammate and land next to the turret/banshee/phantom that downed him.

I still can't get over the revive lag.

Standing over downed teammate, hit spacebar - nothing. Ok, let me stand a few inches this way, hit spacebar - nothing. Would be nice if we could make a Timeout signal to the Geth so they'll stop firing at me long enough for me to find the sweet spot for the Revive option to actually work.

I agree with this. At time I get me or my squadmate killed trying to revive when they are close to an object. I press key to revive but I take cover instead.
