I know it was tossed back and forth many times already, but shouldn't Commander Shepard  receive  a promotion? Like, to Admiral? The prominent argument opposing this was that in ME1 Shepard joins Spectres and so is out of Alliance, but at the beginning of ME3 he gets reinstated by the order of admiral Anderson, so I hope he gets this promotion.:crying:

Maybe at the end of the game, depending on the ending, Shepard will get an offer of a promotion (and a player choice to accept or take early retirement or something). But Shepard's been 'Commander Shepard' all through the series, it's kind of the iconic title for the character.

He might during the game, but going from a confined guest at Alliance HQ to being fully reinstated? I personally think Shepard's just happy to have his job back.

With all the sh*t Shepard has done, he should get arraigned and booted out of the Alliance military.
Something like that is Anderson saying. Shepard was almost out of the business. S/he should count him/herself lucky to be reinstated as Commander. :P

why exactly would Shepard become an Admiral? captain I could see... sorta... but ... like Anderson says in a demo "**** you've done? anyone else would be court martialed" reinstatement is one thing. they need Shepard. so they give Shepard back the alliance affiliation. but promotion? to Admiral no less... no.

He's lucky he's not in prison. A reinstatement is asking a little much.

I'm amazed Anderson isn't in prison or at least out of the Alliance. In the early promo's for ME3 his uniform didn't look like an Alliance one so I figured he'd resigned from the Alliance or something. (more like been kicked out)

...but no, Retribution never happened.

Happens. ;)

Besides that: why in heaven should Shepard want to become an Admiral? That guy/lady is needed at the front, commanding the Normandy. S/he shouldn't get Kirk's treatment: promoted to rot behind a desk.

Even after having all his actions justified, I think Shepard wouldn't gain any honors or anything, in fact people might shift blame to him.

'If he never found the Reapers this would never have happened!' or something much along those lines... Well, of course it would never happen, cause they would all be dead without knowing who or why in that case, but hey *shrug* No use confusing the issue with fact.

He'd be hailed as a hero and the only way I see his reputation being 'redeemed' is through Heroic Sacrifice... My Shepard intends to live for a VERY long time, so I highly doubt he's willing to do that.

Trufax. My Shep intends to live a life after the Reaper war, regardless of what the galaxy thinks about him. He couldn't care less for rank. All he wants is to end that war, regardless if he's a Commander or an Admiral - or discharged.

I don't think they'd go that far, but they would start to more seriously criticize the job Shepard did.

"Why didn't you do this? Or this? Or that?" ect...

I was aiming at more the extremist angles. But yes, I do agree they would heavily criticize the job he did, despite the fact he was the ONLY ONE actually doing SOMETHING about it. Everyone turned their backs on him. Shepard's actions - some being morally objectable - were just about the only things keeping the Reapers delayed for a long as they were. And he got ****** all support from his friends from ME1 thanks to that f*cker TIM. Sure, he's resposible for being Shepard back, but being chained to a demon isn't much better than being dead.

Reminds me of something or someone.

Not to say that criticism isn't justified in cases like this.

However hindsight is 20/20, especially when you aren't under any pressure.

True. It's one of those 'You weren't there, therefore you've got no goddamned right to call me out on it' situations.

I got the impression from the demo that Shepard's removal from active status was more of a symbolic gesture taken for political reasons. They did afterall keep him close at hand just in case he was needed, and in his talk with Anderson before going into talk to bosses they say that they have been undertaking preparations for the Reaper invasion. Just that it isn't enough.

A formal promotion isn't out of the question even during the war, but jumping him upto admiral isn't feasible given the nature of the game (admirals don't generally don't take part in boarding missions for example) and also that would give him a redundant title lacking a spare fleet to give him.

Even so doubt that it would surprise anyone if the character takes on the de facto role of admiral during the course of the game, but a formal promotion probably won't happen until the epilogue. In any case he has a bit much on his plate to get caught up on what insignia to pin on his uniform so it probably won't come up at all.

Anderson did say 'We'll get it sorted'

I assume that 'it' refers to Shepard being grounded for what he's done. At least he has a decent quote-unquote 'cell'. How many cells do you know of have models, bookshelves, a generous view + bed and a work station? Sure, the door's locked (probably) but he's not rotting in an appalling penal facility somewhere.

Goneaviking: keep in mind Shepard has two quite influential friends in the Alliance Military: Anderson and Hackett. Both tried to best to boot Shepard's ass out of that mess, but of course, they couldn't hide everything. Shepard's connections to Cerberus are well known. Even if no one knows about the Bahak-incident, everyone knows Shepard was working for a terrorist organization. And for that, s/he had to assume personal responsibility.

Lets say: Shepard is a really lucky one s/he didn't end in jail. And Anderson / Hackett tried the best to keep him/her in the game.

I get what you're saying, but Shepard wasn't exactly being treated like she was in the doghouse. She could've been housed in a frigid hinterland, and instead of being escorted by James the respectful junior officer she could have been followed by James the suspicious spycatcher.

Even with Anderson and Hackett on her side it could have been a lot worse; if there'd been serious questions about her loyalty there's no way she would have put up so close to command chambers.

Like Anderson said if it had been anyone other than Shepard who blew up the relay, or spent months running around with Cerberus cohorts for that matter, she would have been put well out of play. Instead she was just a few minutes away for easy consultation when the Reapers show up.

It kind of reminds me of the Wing Commander games. You end the first game as a highly decorated ace fighter pilot and begin the next game having been stripped of your rank and employed in essence as a traffic cop. Despite their not being able to prove your guilt for the crime you were accused of.

You know, Shepard has optical implants right? And its safe to assume they record everything he sees. What's stopping him from submitting that evidence as proof the Reapers exist? Obviously not the part where he signs the deathwarrent of some 300 000 batarains (though my fem!shep cried no tears, being a colonist and all), but the part where Kenson is explaining the Reaper artifact and how the Reapers were planning to invade.

In truth, I just want one good 'I MOTHER-F*CKING told you so...' line to the councilors in 3.

I have an odd question that relates to this, I have the Arrival DLC and when the Batarains got blown up my thought was well this sucks it had to be in Batarian space, Now they got the reason to go to war with humans. With ME2 Miranda and TIM got us up to speed on Shepard getting set after Geth
Now to my odd question The ME3 Demo is that at the very start of ME3 or were there things that were cut out? Like What exactly had to take place to appease the Batarains and how bad the charges were? I was expecting something more in depth and the Player being in the moment of the charges given the significance that the Human/Batarian thing has been in the ME Universe.

Anyone know if that will be in ME3? OR if it will be cut out like in the Demo?

Because I felt like I just got a giant dump in my lap without so much as an explanation as to how deep the sh!t I waded into was.

"Arrival" happens, regardless if you own & play the DLC, gearseffect. Therefore Shepard always blew up the Bahak System.

Joining Ceberus and killing around 300k Batarians should equal promotion?

in ME1 the council is shown for its impotence
in ME2 the alliance and the council are both shown for their impotence

impotent military/governmental bodies are not known for promoting the proper persons. it took a so called terrorist organization to get the job done in ME2. you are really surprised shepard wasnt "promoted" by these people?

hell. look at the most fervent alliance crewmembers in ME1 (ashley/kaidan). they betrayed shepard in ME2. surprised? not me.

Refusing to help and betrayal are two different things. They are not interchangable. Besides, when will people learn. Even in games, Politicians are backstabbers. (looking at you Udina)

I'm hoping that the demo just gave us the default "This is your first time playing ME intro" or "You play ME but don't get DLC" intro. Those of us who played Arrival will hopefully get different dialog *fingers crossed*
