Hi guys, really annoyed to see that when I install origin I can no longer shut down my windows 7 pc, I know its origin because when I uninstall it the problem goes. Thing is I cannot install the demo because it says I need to run it as the administrator.. wtf is that all about, its my pc?
Anyway this was happening 6 months ago and I know many others with windows 7 have had the same problem.. my need is therefore twofold.
First is there a fix for windows 7 to allow me to install origin AND be able to shut my pc down normally and
Second How can I install the demo as an administrator, it does not give the facility to right click and run as administrator.
I hope this is fixable or my pre-ordered copy of the game will have to be cancelled, and me a ME veteran too, this is terrible... please help.
Origin.. stops my pc from shutting down. Nothing has changed in 6 months

I really wish I could help you on this one. It sounds like some Origin process has been blocked in kernel mode or somesuch, which would prevent a shutdown. Have you informed the Origin team of this? Can you see any Origin processes in Task Manager (even after you've closed it)?

Ah, the good old days, when you just had to insert the cd-rom, click on "install", wait some minutes, and then everything worked just fine... it was so simple! Nowdays it seems they really are trying hard in making things more complicated and worse functioning. ç_ç
Oh, sorry, i was just lost in the memories from the past. Good Luck man, I hope this turns out to be just some minor problem and not compatibility iusse with Windows 7 (or i'm screwed too, since i also have Window 7), and that you can solve it as soon as possible.

Well, I'm on Win7x64 and it's fine.
My best bet is that it is related to this Admin privilege request issue. Something Origin is doing is being blocked in the kernel because it is waiting upon permissions perhaps, and I don't believe you can kill a blocked process that is in kernel mode.
Have you also checked the UAC settings and the like? What's the status of the account you are logged into Windows as?

hmm I don't have that problem on my Win7x64 machine
aside from checking your UAC setting. have you tried elevating origin.exe to administrator? (run program as administrator under the exe properties)

I had that problem yesterday.
It was caused by a conflict with Steam. If you have Steam installed on your Win7 machine and have this problem, the solution (at the moment) is to uninstall Steam, then restart your computer BEFORE installing Origin.
If like me you unwittingly installed Origin and had Steam still installed. This may have resulted in the shutdown button misbehaving. If you are now stuck 'on', before using the power off switch uninstall Steam. Then power down (the old fashioned way if you have to - pull the plug). Restart Windows in normal mode. Steam now erased, Origin will work, Shut down restored...best Mordin voice.

No offense, but that sounds like BS and scaremongering.
