Is there really an excuse for these graphics in 2012?

I'm surprised that many people don't know what Demo means.

360 Games with better large-scale water, go. (and post pics for comparison's sake)

Killzone 3, enough said.

Old consoles are holding graphics back (thats is simply a fact, it doesn't matter if it comes from the mouth of a pc gamer or not) but its not holding them back THAT MUCH.  Mass Effect 3's water just looks plain bad, period, as do a lot of things in the game like clothing textures.  There are other console games, particularly the big ps3 exclusives, that blow it out of the water on the same memory restrictions.  Pun happily unintended.

The reason PC gamers are upset though is because these textures are not what are made in development, they are made much better in PC programs and then downscaled to conform with the console's memory restrictions.  Simple fact no biasness.  The problem is that unlike most developers, Bioware also downscales the textures in the PC version unnecessarily.  Or it would be more accurate to say they just port over the console version and call it a day.  That is why PC gamers are upset, not because they think they deserve more, theres no sense of entitlement.  I guarantee you if one of the consoles was capable of significantly better textures but the other one was holding it back, all the people playing on said console would be crying foul just the same.  I don't know what it is with console gamers feeling so insecure about the truth that consoles ARE outdated pieces of hardware, pure and simple, just as your cellphone would be if you owned the thing for 7 years.

What part of the "7 year old decrepit console hardware" do you not understand?

Not to mention they still use outdated engine on top of that.

The part where there are a ton of games out there on that "7 year old decrepit console hardware" that look massively better. I dont remember water looking as **** as this in Uncharted 3. I dont remember Uncharted 3 having problems with the 1000 number of animations its main character has, to site "RAM issues" for holstering weapons and crap like that...hell even some 2 year old open world games have better water effects than ME3 does.... ffs! (just cause 2)

So stop this BS about 7 year old hardware... ME3 is definetely not representative of what that 7 year old hardware can do. Gears 3 is, Uncharted 3 is, Killzone 3 is etc etc etc.

Stop giving stupid excuses for what seems poor developing/coding choices.

That's whats so perplexing. Virmire had good, decent water visuals. ME3, 5 years on, doesn't. It's completely static. Did a BW employee cough and accidentally paste the water effects from a really old build of ME 1?

Most copies sold = Xbox 360 version = the version that matters the most for Bioware.

Actually, I think 'good' water quality is a big resource, it would be a good thing to scale back on for a demo.

Umm... since when demos are suppose to be representative of the final product? Every demo I have played does not look as good as the final product...

That is true. I originaly played 1-2 on the 360 because i couldn't afford a computer that could ride them. Now i have one that super owns them, and the PC versions are in fact much better.

You might very well be right. But I wish they'd tell us if this is the case. Their silence largely responsible for inducing neurosis on the scale we're seeing.

However it doesn't even look that good ON the 360.  You have 2D sprites running around and some of the jankiest animation I've seen in a long while.

Yes, it does.   But, you're a deluded Bioware homer who thinks they can never do any wrong.  It's okay if you're fine with a sub-par product (that might be better in the retail release) but don't act all high and mighty.  It does have broken controls.  Assigning one button for a multitude of actions is awful, broken design.

So did this guy just joined BSN today to discuss a complaint that could go in the opinions thread or troll?

tbh, I have never really noticed much of a differance in terms of graphics between the 360, PC or the PS3. They pretty much look the same to me. *Prepares to be flamed by PC Elitists*

Honestly, coming from the PC demo, I was quite surprised by how bad the game looked.
I think this is mostly due to the lack of depth of view options though, vistas look atrocious in the demo and there is no way - as far as I know - to turn that graphical option on. I'm hoping that will solve my biggest gripe with the graphics. As they look very, very subpar in the demo.

In addition to the horrendous texture work of course. But I don't expect that to look good anyway. ME2 was alright in that regard, but hardly a shining example of textures done right.

I wish we could systematically kill off Console gamers.

PC GAMER MASTER RACE!!!!!

But seriously, they had to cut somewhere. If you choose to buy a console port, then guess what you get? A console port. Nobody is forcing you to buy the game, and ****ing and moaning about something that WE ALL KNEW WAS GOING TO HAPPEN...is really a waste of bandwidth.

Honestly though, I really wish they had gone with multiple disc's for the Xbox 360 maybe 2 single player disc's and a Multiplayer disc, and for the PS3 make it like Metal Gear Solid 4 where you had to pre-load between Acts. It would have cost them a lot more production, but hey at least the third game would look better than the second.

Reminds me of how Crysis 2 looks worse than Crysis. Lucky for ME, it's always been about story, whereas Crysis was based on it's graphics.

I took a screenshot of the graphical options not present in the demo compared to ME2, the extras in ME2 are underlined. The one thing the demo had that my ME2 config doesn't is Anti-aliasing (not really a problem since there's the nvidia controls for me). So aside from texture sizes, I think this pretty much explains the graphics. Makes sense for a demo! (if the image is too small just right click it and "view image")

You're wrong in everything you just said. Sorry. The game is not sub-par, the controls are not broken and assigning one button to multiple actions works just fine on the 360, and that's what counts.

The examples u have given have been platform percific games that has been designed for the console in min gears 3 xbox and unchaarted for ps3

and tbh yes they do look good the games u have said and i enjoyed them alot myself but bioware have never pushed the boundarys with graphics and thats not what there about there style is about storytelling and making u care about the char the plot and how things unfold and i not played many other games that pulls u into the story like some of my fav bioware games dragonage masseffect and baldersgate and even starwars

Yes the pc is is being held back by console grrapics and that wint ever change even when the new consoles come out 2 they will still be behind pcs and for a while the pc eletists will be semi happy then the cycle starts all over again

i felt that me3 graphics was decent not the best by a long way cut sceens on the demo look pritty good also and i cant wait for the full game to be out and saving the universe from the repaers and if someone values graphics over gameplay/storytelling then they dont want to play rpg s as 99% put content over graphics

Oh great, another thread about one of the following subjects:

- Bioware catering to console noobs;
- Bioware catering to loyal fanboys;
- Bioware catering to newer fans, but neglecting “old”, “loyal”, and “old school” fans;
- Bioware bowing down do to the wishes of their EA overlords;
- This game is going to be the worst Bioware game ever!!!111!!! Just look at *insert random game here*!!!!
- Dumbing down of RPG elements;
- This game does not have the things that I want;
- This game is not similar to it’s predecessor.

As has been said, ME3 is in no way or shape or form a representative of what this "7-year-old hardware" can do. Try the original Crysis on your PS3 or 360 and get back to me. Or if you want exclusives, Uncharted 3 and Gears of War 3, respectively.

Get over it.

they could have saved all that money they spent on developing DRM and Origin, and used it for better graphics and maybe gamepad support.... like it won't get cracked and bootlegged within a week of release anyway. and after trying the demo i'm buying the xbox version because the keyboard controlls are horrible.

Looks good enough for me. I'm not playing ME3 to look out over the water.
