Would of been cool if I husk grabbed him by the leg and dragged him down the vent. Just say'n. At least then he wouldn't have to say a chessy line without any real context and it would of been more dramatic.

For a day like this, I have found that this seems to be an appropriate response.

The boy could have any number of psychological issues that he could have been dealing with. Maybe the kid suffers from episodes of suffer depression brought on by alien invasions. Perhaps he was abused at a younger age and the one place he found comfort was in a dark inclosed place hence the air duct. Or maybe the voice in his head told him that the ducts was the best place to be in case of an apocalypse. Basically, to quote Hank Hill "that boy's ain't right."

I still think the intro was better than in ME2 where Shepard dies and is then brough back. Oh look it's been two years and youre now with Cerberus... And what are these "thermal clip" things and robots with red square faces attacking you?

Thanks.

The ME2 intro had a lot of atmosphere and good pacing though, overall well done in execution. The intro of ME3 just feels, weird. I can't quite point at what it is exactly but I guess it's many small things, and trying to get newcommers into the action as fast as possible, which I guess is why the trail was cut. A really bad decision in my opinion.
I still hope this is not how ME3 actually starts.

Oh and now thermal clips are called "ammo". *facepalm* Next thing you know Rachni are called Zerg and the alliance Terrans.

This kid alone might very well be the best thing that ever happened to the series.

I did not expect what happened to the child... at all. It reminded me of the start of the original Fable when the village got attacked, where I thought "why would you make the game so dark and make me feel so powerless so early on?!"

Because that is what Casey stated ME3 would be alot more like, shepards emotional moments/times where he cannot undo what the scene is/consequence in.

At least the droids didn't shout "Enemy is everywhere" every 3 seconds.

and before you mention Harbinger, I thought his constant barrage of sexual innuendos was funny.

On Topic:

I depends on how the child has been brought up. Outside the vent the kid has just seen Husks, he could have already been found by a Soldier and told "come with me if you want to live" and then subsequent Soldier be ripped apart/Husk ****slapped so now he thinks his only way to survive is hide.Until he sees people flying off in Transports...

That was the only /facepalm moment the demo for me, but it was just there to show the human cost of the war. Soldiers staying behind, giving up seat and basically embracing death - 200 foot tall robot confirms this - to save the civilians, only to then see said civilians die.

There is no way in hell I personally would risk getting in that transport when Metal Death incarnate is 30 yards away facerolling **** for fun. If it was just Husks yea i'd be jumping in that transport but they literally would have grounded most if not all non-combat air traffic in such a cluster****.

I think that there are three option for the kid.

1. Whole thing was just awful writing.
2. Child was quite mature/he had seen some awful things and believed that Shepard couldn't help him.
3. Child was not real, but figment of Shepard's imagination/sign of some lingering indoctrination.

And from this option 3 seems most likely as then the kids behavior and words would actually make sense and it would explain why none else seems to react to him.

"We will do more than challange them."

That beats "You can't help me."
In every possible way of being cheesy.

Well depends on how much of a role you mean. I'm frankly not a good writer in terms of creativity, I'm more of an editor. Actually editing is more or less my job, I work as a tutor at a local University so have to mark essays etc.

I'm certainly not saying that I personally could do better, I just wish that Drew had remained as the lead writer instead of Mac.

Doesn't everyone?

Why would anybody say that? Especially a kid?

"Psychological Profile:
Please indiciate which best describes your experience with significant combat loss."

"Numerous: The deaths of numerous squadmates and friends have begun to play a significant role in Commander Shepard's psychological profile. The burden of inevitable combat loss after so many high-risk missions weighs heavily on Shepard."

Maybe the child is just a visual representation of Shepard's psyche starting to buckle.

..or maybe he's real, ****ed if I know.

Even if I could stomach the line (and I could), the delivery was off.

Frankly, the whole scene felt surreal.

I didn't think it was all that bad, but it was a bit blatant about the whole "I'm an analogy for everyone you can't save" thing

I thought that Shepard was losing it. The reason he saw the kid that no one else did and he disappeared so suddenly and quietly, I thought it was a sympom of Shepard's failing mental state.

Child clearly picked the renegade conversation option. He doesn't need any pity.

I think Shep is acting weirder than the kid. I'd have totally grabbed the stupid kid in the neck and dragged him along. The building was being shot only a minute before! Then Anderson had something to do while Shep kills everything too.

Made my gf drop her mouth in shock. Hey, it works on some.

This about sums it up.

Some people (particularly women) get really moved by the concept of a child in peril.  Others don't.

I for example was thinking "Shepard there are thousands of people dying all around you.  You don't have time to lug some kid around."  and I play as a Paragon.

The episode with the kid was clearly meant to personalize the conflict; but it just didn't work for me.

PS:  I don't think it was particularly bad writing though.  It wasn't great writing; but its a stretch to call it bad.

Yeah, it's easier for me to accept the kid as a hallucination. He's there one moment, gone the next, and when he's outside about to get on the shuttle, NOBODY pays attention to him. Nobody looks at him, tries to help him while he's kinda struggling to get on board, nothing.

In a situation like that, where there's simply too much to process, your mind will mess with you. With the Reapers suddenly there and attacking Earth, you know that so many people are dying every second, you'll wonder "What the hell do I do?", and it's just too much to cope with. Very understandable that Shepard would hallucinate at that point.

Also, it's Alliance Headquarters.

There'd be no reason for a lone child to be wandering around Alliance HQ on his own.
