So I played ME3 demo and I installed those new physx drivers and... I got hooked on ME again. So I wanted to finally finish my 18271047017th playtrough of ME2 and I press play aaaand... I get an error message saying that I have to update my Physx drivers. I tried doing that and again comes the message. Any help?

Do you have a restore point perhaps (Windows Vista/7)? I've found them incredibly reliable, and you should be able to just roll back a day or two and everything will be fine again.

If you're absolutely stuck, and/or are on Win XP or the likes, I suggest removing all the drivers (perhaps with a tool like Driver Cleaner) and going from scratch.

Hm I guess I'll try that out. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm having the same issue and I don't even have an nvidia card. I have an AMD Radeon HD 6900. I tried uninstalling the ME3 demo, reinstalling ME2, uninstalling Physx, but nothing has worked.

I don't have a restore point to roll back to. I currently cannot play either the ME3 demo or ME2 because of this Physx error. Any suggestions?

Have you tried uninstalling PhysX, running driver sweeper (http://www.guru3d.co.../driversweeper/) on it, then starting from the top again?

It looks like driver sweeper has been discontinued, and there are no download links on that site. Any other programs you would suggest?

Sorry, that was the first link that came up -- I haven't used it in some years I admit. This one has a binary download that works for me.

Thanks for the link.

Okay, here's what I've tried now. I have uninstalled Physx, ran driver sweeper, rebooted. ME2 still won't run. I try to install the version of Physx that is in my ME2 folder, but it tells me the version I have is newer. Same thing happens when I install the one in the ME3 demo folder. I even tried installing the latest version from the nvidia site. After doing that, the ME3 demo runs, but ME2 still won't start.

Had the same problem i fixed it by going into control panel, programs and features(where you uninstall programs). Selected physx and used the repair button. It worked for me hope it helps you

Nope, no luck. ME2 still comes up with the same Physx related error.

This worked for me, but is far from ideal:

Go into the control panel and uninstall Physx.
Go into your mass effect 2 folder and then into redist, use the tool in their to reinstall PhysX_9.09.0814

ME2 now works, but the demo dunt.

Repeat but go into Origin demo folder -> _installer -> physx. Switching between the two does the job. It just blows.

That didn't work for me at all. Trying to reinstall from the ME2 folder just gives me a message telling me that the version of Physx I have is newer than the one I'm trying to install, and cancels out of the install.

I'm getting pretty frustrated. I can get the demo to work, but I want to get ME2 working so I can finish the playthrough I was doing in prep for ME3. I've found a bunch of fixes, and not one of them has worked for me.

Right, you need to uninstall it first in the add/remove programs section of the control panel

No, I know. I uninstalled it first. Even tried driver sweeper as suggested above. And I still get the same message when I try to install from either the ME2 or ME3 demo folders.

I had the exact same issue, and this is something bioware needs to be addressing. Basically, the demo introduces a new version of PhysX which Mass Effect 2 no longer recognizes.

Ideally, a patch should be introduced which fixes both.

Yet another reason to not bother with ME3...

^ That's not helpful, and it only causes Bioware to ignore the issues.

Repairing what, exactly?

This issue remains unresolved, and is unacceptable to leave as such. It will make my ability to play the series impossible, with it still in place.

This has been brought up at least once before and a solution was given. Try this:

1. Browse to C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect 2\\redist
2. Run PhysX_9.09.0814_SystemSoftware.exe and install it.
3. Play Mass Effect 2.
4. Enjoy!

If you aren't using the Steam version, just browse to wherever your install directory is and find the redist folder, then proceed with step 2.

I had this same issue. I simply used the automatic restore point created when I installed the demo via origin. Using the restore point simply unistalled the demo and all that came with it (I already played through it so it's all good) and ME2 works fine again.

Hopefully they fix this for the full game release. If not I will be severely disappointed.

You think they care if you can play ME2 now that "a great place to enter the story" is being released?
