I only miss once or twice out of every ten attempts. Just gotta avoid letting the gunfire get to ya and focus.

This.  I only carry a heavy pistol so mine is down to just over 3 seconds.  Charge-nova-melee-charge-nova-melee.

To be more on topic, I have noticed that I tend to miss when I try to get too close to the target as it's too hard to get the angle just right.  If you stand a few steps back, your character will lock on to the baddie and you should hit dead on.  Just my observation.

No problems this end, I usually miss 1/10. Then again I am Tactical Cloaking behind everyone and using it then. Although there have been times where lag has been god awful that they were now 5 meters away.

Sometimes the long cinematic animation misses because the target moves while you do the stupid wind-up.

I play a melee infiltrator and have noticed this alot. Pretty annoying.

P.S. this is talking about hectic silver+ multiplayer coop.

OP I get it, at first it was screwing me over, you have to time it right. if you use a power and then catch an enemy while they doge you can get them, or if they come at you use it. just keep trying and roll when you're back to normal.

heavy melee is almost guaranteed to hit after a normal melee strike connects. using light attacks to snap on targets and heavy melee to finish them off works very well

unlocked double nova strike for my vanguard, only packin a pistol: charge, nova nova, melee, heavy melee. charge is usually ready after the 1st melee too. its madness

[edit] using light attacks also interupts most enemy heavy melee attacks because the animation is much quicker, heavy attack afterwards to put the down. pretty reliable combo

Okay, I played last night and practiced using melee.

Some things I noticed:

If you get too close to the enemy, like right on top of them, you will likely miss, even if you are "locked on" to them. Or you'll do almost no damage. Not sure what's going on there but it happened enough that I'm convinced it's a glitch (not game breaking but it's frustrating).

Attacking them head-on is better than attacking their side, but stabbing them in the back is even better. Shield isn't much use to you now is it Mr. Guardian Man. Attacking a guardian head-on is fairly useless, even with heavy melee, but it will knock them back.

I'm not into multiplayer yet but just from the singe player portion of the demo I can tell you that different classes (and I assume different races as well) have different "strike areas" for their heavy melee. For example I noticed the adept heavy melee was a biotic ground slam that seemed to do a small AoE around me, I was able to knock back multiple enemies but obviously it didn't 1hit kill em all, whereas with the soldier it's a straight jab with the blade and is very easy to miss with but 1hit killed everything I hit with it. So I'm gonna say it's probably best to take a little time to learn just how your class' heavy melee works so you can use it effectively.

Gnasher user here. So it doesn't explode when you pull RT/B? D'aww. =P (sorry, couldn't refuse. don't hate.)

I'm happy it doesn't have some kind of magnet aim (Lancer, I hate you) but involves some skill in lining up the target for a heavy melee. Some need to be frozen or thrown into stasis before punching them becomes an option. There are skills that upgrade melee damage, which are required to kill anything on silver and up.

I'd say keep it as it is.

This.  

One of the most frustrating things with my Vanguard is when I charge, nova, and then I can't melee him because he's on the ground.
