Supporting Arguments

Split Screen, System Link, LAN still important facets of multiplayer gaming!
- Modern games even the likes of Halo and Gears of War still include split screen and system link options. Why? Because social gaming is still prevalent. If a game is built correctly it still sells well.
EA Servers are not reliable!
- Want to play a classic EA console game? Wait there aren't any. Any game built with dependence on EA's servers can never be a classic title because the act EA shutting down their servers for the title utterly breaks functionality within the game. Developers may not care about this in the short run, but all they do is build disposable titles it is eventually going to backfire in terms of consumer respect.
Key Features are being withheld!
- When a consumer purchases a game everything included should be accessible shy of DLC & Online privileges. Multiplayer games should not require a third party especially if they are already using one via a console online service.
Not all games follow this path!
- It could be said that all new games or even all EA games are adopting this Online Pass / EA Server methodology, but Syndicate is not adopting an Online Pass to lower "Barriers to Entry". If Bioware cared about getting more people on board with this new feature that obviously its excited about why not allow more people to expierence it? Why prevent people who care about Mass Effect from playing it with their friends in the same room. Is Bioware about producing antisocial behavior?
*The argument is not about the Online Pass, but adding more hurdles just for players to experience cooperative multiplayer.
It is not too late in the development Process
- Based on the uproar made about the many errors in the latest Mass Effect novel. Supposedly the move to fix this has been addressed to support the fans. Is this a move to support the fans or to save face? If it is the former than there is no reason why Bioware can't release a post launch patch to add local multiplayer or include it in an upgraded edition. Sure books are different, but if a company is willing to admit mistakes or acknowledge fan feedback after a product is released the same can be accomplished for a video game.
Offline Does Not Impair All DLC Sales
- Better to make money from people who buy DLC to play with it offline, than lose the sale
altogether for those who won't pay for on Online Pass OR DLC.
Bioware claims to Support its community
- If this is true, please back that up by adding a feature that many members of that community would love to have to enjoy the Mass Effect experience.

What some people still say about local multiplayer!

Xerxes52 wrote...
Well, they can keep their multiplayer locked behind the pass, but I'd still like to have some bots to fill in offline when EA's servers go down (which they do with alarming regularity).
KiddDaBeauty wrote...
I'm definitely on for some couch multi player. It'd be darn hype to play with friends around me =) When I played ME3 multi player at Gamex, that was exactly how I played it. I had a friend next to me. It was glorious =) Would love to be able to relive that in the retail version without having him to get a tv and his xbox over here.
Astarothkun wrote...
An offline / LAN / Split-screen Multiplayer feature would be great for future gaming experience.
I know from experience that after years of gaming you always go back to those few great titles to play with your friends in multiplayer. Only that is made possible by providing LAN Multiplayer because honestly most online multiplayer options do not survive more than five years.
I want to be able to come back to ME3 Multiplayer whenever I feel like it and not worry about any online functionality being shut down.
Plus it might be old school but me and my friends still come together for some good old LAN sessions without any mentionable internet connection around. We would love to play ME3 then, too.
Lizzy87 wrote...
Sadly this means I won't be able to play online. I've only got an Xbox silver account, and I'm not going to spend the extra money on multiplayer that I can't use with my friends and fiancée because they all have PS3's.
Ideally I'd like splitscreen, that way my fiancée and I are guaranteed to have a good multiplayer game we'll be using for years, and be willing to fork out extra cash for DLC.
UJN wrote...
I rarely play any games online, but playing offline co-op with friends is something I really enjoy. One of the best experiences I've had this generation was playing through Resident Evil 5 with a friend. Offline multiplayer in ME3 would be fantastic.
Jsxdf wrote...
If they don't add LAN or offline support it's going to suck a couple years down the road when we want to play the galaxy at war parts again and can't because EA shut the servers down. That is why dedicated servers (hosting them ourselves) is a good thing
XDMMX wrote...
I live in a rural area where the only form of internet access is terrible dial-up, so I was disappointed to find out that we could only play the new MP mode online.
I loved the fact that Epic made GOW2 and 3 MP playable offline with bots, so that people who cant play online, or those that don't like to play online, can still get the MP experience and have some fun.
Thompson family wrote...
I'm 100 percent for this. I'd love to play ME3 with my kids.
