The manual camera movement is...burdensome. And unfortunately, the alternative is Shepard's old man jog.Wulfram wrote...
It's annoying. Controlling Shepard in sprint is clumsy and awkward.

I don't really follow. And if you're saying it's a matter of controls, well that doesn't apply in my case since I play on the PC. The controls for basic movements haven't change from ME2 and yet this is looks way worse.
I was only talking specifically about "Steering" Shepard while sprinting.
Normally your left stick / wasd would be for walking and strafing.
Game developers have fallen in love with the idea of :
When it's time to sprint. Lets change strafing to turning Left and Right.
When not sprinting its just strafing. They did this because the sprint button
was a face button on the right side of the controller. You can't hold sprint
and rotate the right analog stick because of button layout.
IDIOTIC. Always has been since the PS2 era.
" Gears does it so lets do that too."
On Pc its less of an issue because you CAN use the mouse
to rotate the camera while sprinting. In Mass Effect 2 that wasn't the case.
It only worked that way when your weapon was holstered.

Also I don't know why they didn't just use the Battlefield 3 control scheme. Hold down the stick button to run. R3 all the way. Right now all it's used for is cut away cinematics. Such a waste of R3.

I play on PC with a Dual Shock 3.
I assure you, that is not the thing to do with R3
It also doesn't solve the problem really.
Rotating analog stick while pressing down on it - big no no.
L3 and R3 have VERY special purposes in my config.
Neither is the best sprint button on the controller anyway.

What else does it do? All I noticed was the scene where wrex flies by with an attack chopper on his tail and you can press R3 to make the camera pan and show the scene better.

I'm sorry let me be a little clearer.
When I'm playing Mass Effect 3 on PC, I've created my own controller config.
Mass Effect 3 PC has no native controller support.
I'm using a dual shock 3 and doing super slick things that
no Developer has in any console game on the market.
I do the same for Battlefield 3.
The majority of my deaths in BF3 are me vs vehicle or spawn deaths.
BF3 on PC is a dream with a propper controller config.
Mouse is King, always has been. Likely always will be.
The keyboard however, I smash the keyboard into non-existence.

I agree for a FPS wasd/mouse is by far the best, but I'm on an xbox where I have a controller and limited keys. I'm not special enough to be able to choose my own control scheme so I'm simply complaining that it would be nice to be able to set it up like that. I would prefer L3 for running. Yes I said R3, but then I thought about it... L3 is the running stick R3 is the aiming stick.
Also select has no present purpose. It really ought to.

You see this BIOWARE:
Every game released should allow FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE CONTROLS.
A Developer's job is to create what It feels are the best controls possible
for the Mass Market. They should still allow the OPTION of the player
picking and choosing what each button does.
KEYWORD Naysayers : O P T I O N
The PC versions of your games already have this.
I don't wanna hear it.
Nope.
Nope.
You don't want it - then stay out of the options menu.

Yeah, there has been quiet the discussion lol. 101ezylonhxeT if it helps go watch the Squad Leader Trailer and you'll notice that Shep moved faster in the trailer. Hopefully that is the speed that he'll default run at. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up on that. Someone pointed that to me recently.
thanks for that i have not seen that trailer yet will watch it now.

I'll be honest with you: I found the pacing of the game a bit clumsy. Hope it's just a demo issue.
Yeah it did to me also. But it's not a gamebreaker to me. Just takes some getting used to. ME1 - ME2 - ME3 all have different controls.

Quirkiness around sprinting and moving camera is because
Resident Evil 4 > Gears of War > Mass Effect put the sprint
button in the wrong place on the controller.
Developers keep copying the copy of the copy of a "standard"
control scheme that was flawed to begin with. And now they
don't want to screw with your precious muscle memory, so they
continue to copy the copy til someone gets a clue and then says :
Screw your muscle memory. This new scheme is much better.
I don't care what game you just got finished playing.
These are the best controls for OUR game. Train your muscles
to memorize THIS.
Gears's game play is ten times better than ME will ever have . Bioware focuses on story so much and stupid dialogue choices no wonder the game play has only adavanced very little when it comes to ME 3 . gears focuses on combat and game play which is better

I don't think anyone actually played ME for the fact that it had such great TPS gameplay. Considering that, I think they've made great strides in their TPS gameplay between each title.
