Unable to connect to friends game

My friend was play multiplayer in a private game with someone else yesterday, so it can't be his computers fault.
It can't be my firewall, because I can join any other public multiplayer game.
Has anyone else experienced this? Please help me solve this annoying problem.
Thanks in advance.

Update- Third friend hosting the game let's the other friend join but I can't still so I guess it's just me. I've forwarded ports, have DMZ on, router firewall is off, and tried with personal firewall off but still nothing.
2nd update- Well looks like it's my belkin router doing it so now to see what I can turn on/off on it to fix it.

All the settings that I previously had are still in effect so I have no clue why it decided to work. This is annoying since I can't really help and be able to say how to fix this, besides what I already said.

However, I am able to join public games.
I've opened up all the ports in the demo's readme, along with the ones mentioned in the thread above. I tried shutting down both my antivirus and windows firewall, didn't help.
I don't have any other games on Origin so can't test them.
A fix would be nice! Please!

If I do quick search it says I lost connection to the game and if I join a friends game it says I'm unable to connect to their game. I've made sure that its not being blocked by windows firewalls or the router firewalls. I've tried DMZ. I've opened the ports outlined in the Demo's readme file. I've opened the ports outlined here: http://social.biowar...3/index/9271235 I've enabled upnp. I've tried everything. I've tried restarting the router from my browser and the only way I can join my friends game is by manually pulling out the power to my router and plugging it back in. This is the stupidest problem I've ever faced. WHAT IS CAUSING THIS? EA support still hasn't responded to my ticket I submitted >24hours ago. This is a major problem, looks like I'm not preordering collectors edition till I see a fix.
So... University Student here. Not allowed to mess with the router. Hell, they won't even tell us where the routers are in the buildings. Any solutions besides router ones come up?
It's a darn shame that I can't connect with my friends because I'm here getting an education. Some of the time.

apparantly the game uses the ports 59669 and 3659, so after opening thoose two ports the game worked and my friend could join me. Funny enough i was able to connect to other players, but just not with this one friend, so why it didn't have problem with the ports with the other players is a mystery in my world.
But. as i mentioned my solution is to open the two ports in your firewall and it should solve the problem.

A little research shows that 3659 is also being used by some other online games, so my guess would be that this one port should be enough

Both me and my friend opened the port(s) you suggested to no avail. Neither one of us is using a wireless connection.

hmm, i'll try to see if something else comes up when i try it today, eventually, you can try and download wireshark, and filter it to your friends IP address (public IP) and then see what ports the packages tries to connect to and then open them
Did you open for the ports in the router to?

from the looks of it, it tries to initiate the connection on 56536 and 3659 and after that changes to another port (in my case that port was the 59669 which lead me to believe it used this port in the initial connection to)
Try opening port 56536 and 3659 on you pc firewall and redirect it to you IP in the router firewall.. that should do the trick.

I have not changed any settings on the router when this problem occured. So opening ports won't do a thing. Just expose my network to attacks.
