Play MP for a while...
Why? I don't have the slightest interest in playing that kid infested mess.

It will be just like AC. The kiddie crowd destroyed that scene. they will do the same with ME3. As a matter of fact I think that's the reason behind most of the things that are complained about. If Bioware had not been distracted with this MP crap, they would have had time to spend on getting things to work right in the regular game.

Just like Ubi screwed up the intro ans story in ACR. I played 20 minutes and shelved the game. I hope that is not the case with ME3. Right now that is still up in the air.

I thought MP was just a tacked on addition...it is legit.  Just give it a shot.

As for the rest...of course if you guys want more keybinds i don't have a problem with it.  I just dont think the current control scheme is as bad as you're making it out to be, but then im playing on xbox so who knows.

I don't think it has anything to do with "getting use to it" but more of this:
Action
Role Playing
Story

The 1st 2 allow for adjustable combat difficulty. Being able to remap movements is, to me, part of adjustable combat difficulty. Sure, if you want more of a Story approach then having a one button/key to do nearly everything is fine. That's what Story is there for IMO.

I've had a slight issue with shifting from cover to cover as well, but I found I had trouble exiting cover in general back in ME2. I've just adjusted to hitting F (meleeing) when I want to exit cover and not worry about accidentally rolling somewhere else.

And I know this isn't exactly what you're referring too, but I find (if you're on the PC) binding use/sprint/storm to two buttons can be helpful. I rebound them to left shift and E, so like any other game if I want to sprint, I hold shift, and when I need to interact with something and impulsively hit e.. it all works out somehow.

I'm playing on the 360, as well. That "A" button is a pain in the buttocks. I'm too old to be able to adjust too much. My reflexes are not what they use to be. When I move to the PC, in the very near future, I will be getting ME3 for it. Provided we will be able to mod it at all.

Even then I will be using an xbox controller. I assure you that MP will not be of any interest what so ever.

Still, there is no reason that the PC cannot remap each and every function to an alternate key, plus have a high resolution advantage, AND be able to holster their weapon. I will have 8G of memory, for crying out loud.

EDIT : This is a situation where every split second counts. You go over to a station to activate it and Shep takes cover. WTF is up wth that? Can you Imagine how pissed you would get in ME2, trying to close that damn door in Garrus' reciutment mission. You race to the door to close it and Shep takes cover. I would loose a controller and a TV in that second.

EDIT : Don't get me wrong...I understand. New games new controlls. New configures...I get that. Get use to the controlls. I get that as well. But having so many different things maped to the same button is just too much.

ME3 doesn't support the use of an XBox 360 controller on the PC.

Why don't they bring back some of the keybindings? In ME1, wasn't E the key for use? And in ME2, didn't F get you out from cover? (It could still double for melee when standing)

F still gets you out of cover if I recall correctly, and you can rebind most keys however you want.

It's just that everything is tied into one key that's the problem.

I've got to add my two cents here. The "one button for all" method is very sloppily done. It requires way too much precision to be used in a firefight situation; especially if playing in harder modes and definitely in multiplayer. Granted, I'm coming from most games where you've got separate buttons for "interact", run, crouch etc. so getting used to it in the first place was a steep learning curve; but even after several hours of play it's not intuitive.

So many times I've tried to run away from a lobbed grenade only to switch covers back and forth, back and forth because I wasn't precisely aimed in a direction that *didn't* provide cover which would allow me to run away. Having to take cover before being able to leap cover was quite annoying as well, but that's a minor point to bring up.

All in all, the game controls feel like they were never even beta tested. I hope they fix that before launch, otherwise I won't be buying for sure.

They should've taken a cue from naughty dog and how they did the dodge/roll stuff in Uncharted 3.  ND did it brilliantly and context popups were included when necessary (including grenade lob-back).

It just doesn't seem to work as well with a keyboard I think. If Bioware would care to take advantage of the many more keys on a keyboard, that'll be great.

I'll agree to this as well, this is my major gripe over the gameplay at the moment. If I want to roll I'll cover if I want to cover I roll and it just goes on like that. I think Bioware forgot that there are more buttons on an xbox than A, Lt and Rt.

I didn't have a problem with the use/storm/cover, in settings you can assign secondary keys to actions, so I was using space for cover/storm, and E for use.
I do wish rolling to cover could have an activation key, maybe the same way high profile is used in AC, like if holding down ctrl kept Shep in cover while moving between spots. I love the cover system in Deus Ex Human Revolution, and it would be great if Bioware could combine the simple in/out of cover movements with the speed and flow of cover in the demo.

I am hoping BW removes roll from the 'A' button also...I am rolling when I don't want to and not rolling when I do want to...another button for roll would be most welcome....am XBox user.

I'm hoping they just have different control schemes because that default control scheme shouldn't be removed outright. I guess I'm more accustomed to it since I play Gears of War which is almost the exact same thing except "Use" is the X button.

Thats fair...a number of games do that as far as I'm aware.

I posted this in another forum but it got locked, so here goes. I'm sure a lot of you playing PC, XBOX360, and PS3 are somewhat frustrated at the controls for the combat roll in the game, not to mention the unnecessary excessiveness of it in play, and dumbed-downdedness of the controls. In potentially fixing the problem for PC, I have a suggestion. If anyone has ever played Unreal Tournament, you'd know that you can dodge or sidestep quickly by tapping a directional key (W, A, S, D) twice quickly in a row.

My suggestions would be the following:

- Map the combat roll to the directional keys just like in the Unreal Tournament series
- Double tap the spacebar
- or find some other way that reliably isolates the combat roll function from the running and cover options or makes the control itself even more reliable than it is.

Any one agree? Disagree?

PC player here.

Just give us the option to have more than one button for 3 action and I will be happy. I have a keyboard, I have 89 buttons for Christ sake.

I agree with dubble tapping directional keys for rolling.
I'd say put the sprint under Left Shift, have use be a separate key as well (E is my default) and keep cover on Space.

THIS!

For the love of god, there is no need to force us to keep all three actions bound to just one key. Let us remap them as we see fit. Maybe this could be introduced in a day-one patch or who knows, but please, oh pretty please, impement this change.

*does a sad puppy face*

They should make the distinction between storm/sprint and take cover/interact/roll.

Trying to run from a grenade (which is a pretty common occurrence in ME3 if I'm honest) and instead taking cover right next to it is just asinine.

Rolling/storm isn't so bad. To storm, just hold down shift. To roll, simply hold down the direction you want to roll and tap shift.

I completely agree-- I play on the Xbox & I want something different because the way the A button is now used for everything has ruined the cover system. They could have at least made the roll a double tap like apparently other shooters do.

Will we get any official response about being able to use the more then just the spacekey/A button?
