If you charge inrecklessly without support you're as good as dead.

I don't feel that. Actually, I noticed that if you have more variety in your squad, the game gets easier... If everyone, or at least most of the squad shares the same class, things get ugly fast. Even on Bronze.
I think Soldiers are the least succeptable for this on Bronze, higher it does get ugly.

It depends alot on the player as well. People who know how to play vanguard are damn good with it. People who aren't get screwed.
Pretty much this. Good Vanguard players can be unstopable, and can hold on thier own, without much squad support. Bad players that fail to understand the game mechanics are usally the Kamikaze type that go in, whif half of their shots and die before they can charge again.

It all depends on whether or not you know how to play a vanguard. Half-blast Nova's are great, considering they only take half your barrier off. Combine that with a fast-recharge charge that fully restores your barrier, and you can wreck stuff up close. Or charge halfway across the battlefield to pick off that pesky nemesis.
That said, charging into an Atlas/Turret is still pretty much instant death.
Are they OP? No, because you're very limited by having a chargable enemy in range. If you can't charge anything, you can't regen your barrier and are a sitting duck. You also pretty much suck vs. an Atlas.

I'm a level 8 Vanguard right now, so here's my experience:
1. You need to have a squad reinforcing you. A Vanguard against more than 2-3 enemies in the later waves and especially on higher difficulties is going to leave you with a single bar of health if not dying on the deck. Enemies such as Guardians and Phantoms will shred a Vanguard to pieces if a Vanguard has no back-up.
2. Due to needing a high recharge rate, it isn't advisable to carry more than one weapon. Due to the close quarter nature of the Vanguard, the shotgun is usually the favorable option. The problem with that is a slow firing weapon with limited range, meaning no matter what enemies have to get in close for you to be effective, but that also increases the chance of a quick death by overwhelming numbers.
The objective is to be highly mobile while dealing the most damage in the most efficient way possible in that mobility. You can be a bit looser in Bronze, but Silver and Gold will punish Vanguards who are over-eager.
However, I have had the top score a few times...it just depends on the team behind you and how everyone utilizes their classes.

Infiltrators OP? Yes.
I easily get first place in every match with 75+ kills and 4 shotting atlas mechs in Bronze and can one shot every other unit. As well as stealth cap objectives.

I would much rather play as an adept, which, strangely, I did not enjoy in ME2.

Vanguards are fun too, but they can't take down turrets so well and Atlas mech can be hard to take down as Vanguard. As Soldier, no enemy is a problem.

@zkyire especially if you charge and then nova. And yes, I have seen vanguards do that. They die very, VERY quickly.
That is actually quite effective when you have a good team, but you have to be carrying the bare minimum weight, When im low on shield, I charge into the enemy, use a full powered nova, and I should pretty much be able to dodge out of there if my team covers me. The alternative is nova ---> charge ----> nova, since on max biotic charge, your shields are refilled to the max.

Vanguard is not overpowered, not in the slightest.

Use Avenger and SMG (gives you pretty good cooldowns as Avenger is lightest gun in the game it seems). Works like charm and you don't have to be accurate, you can just spray away to the general direction and they die.
