Gold as a vanguard is a **** for me. I'm a shotty only vanguard because I like to get up close and personal, however I get destroyed in close range on gold whenever I charge into a fight. I think that if you have someone who has cryo blast, or another way of stunning the enemy, then the vanguard is deadly because they can charge in and finish the job. Alone, your just dead meat.

You can't really get away Nova-ing over and over on Gold. I got to Gold wave 10 (has anyone beaten gold yet?). Nova is awesome on Bronze and for the most part of Silver though spam away.

Drellguard here, I'm so fast.
Rolling with just a pistol means my fully-up'd charge cools down in an instant.
I feel as though without a vanguard causing chaos in enemy lines, the team doesn't do so well. Not to say that they'll do terribly, just that the match would go much quicker with a vanguard tearing through the unshielded baddies.
Did I mention I'm so fast?
So fast.

Phantoms and The Atlas mech have an insta kill meele attack. Don't charge them head on because that triggers their finisher attack. They are not overpowered against phantoms and Atlas mechs.

I charge at them all the time, but I also run away right after. For Phantoms it's a good way to knock them over and for Atlas I do it get some shield and cause a bit of damage. I think they need to get rid of your shields before they do the instant kill melee attacks.

That happened once to me, the rest of the time I had no problem Falcon punching them in the face.

For all those saying vanguards who charge+nova die quickly, you have been playing with bad vanguards. I take only the M-5 (No scope, scope sucks for vanguard) and have a 3 second CD on charge. Nova reduces that by 25%. Charge increases Charge and nova's power by 25% and fully restores barriers.

At any rate, I tried to see how much of bronze I could solo at level 15 and got up to wave 8. Not that I'm 17 and Nova is maxed, I think I can solo all 10 (with some luck) as I can solo phantoms and atlas without issue. I'll try tonight and update.

Atlas takes a little while but if you just charge, nova (backwards to avoid insta-death), rinse and repeat it's easy. Turrets are a little more tricky but also possible.

I don't know about that, I'm a soldier and I've consistently done better then my other teamates, especially those who were Vanguards. Though me and this Vanguard did complete a game by ourselves.

I don't know if its the strongest, I'm pretty sure any class you level up well in and know how to use can be effective.

I'm not saying Vanguard is the strongest, but it does feel a little overpowered. Granted, I have only played bronze, but in leveling vanguard to 17 I think I have not been first 3 or 4 times. Once was to an engineer 10 levels higher than me and the other time was to a soldier who was just really good (he also stole all of the atlas kills with his stupid rocket launcher). Most of the matches I've won have been by at least 5000 points. Maybe I'm just pretty good at it or I've been getting bad players on my team, but this probably has merit.

An Adept that follows a Vanguard around can put up quite the score due to Biotic Charge detonating biotics.

I had a scary good random two-person matchup with a Charging / Nova-Nova-Nova Human Vanguard whlie I was playing a Stasis Bubble / Warp Asari Adept. I just chased him around the map locking down threats to him, would stasis mark targets, and we owned that place. I've never played multiplayer so quickly - AND without dying! No voice chat. It was perfect.

At least in bronze matches vanguards seem a bit overpowered. I shouldnt be getting scores of 50k+ while my teammates have maybe ~15k if they're lucky.

Once, my entire team left at round 4 of a bronze match, and I solo'd the rest of the game and made it safely to extraction.

I guess a level 20 vanguard in a bronze match is bound to be overpowered a little bit, but that seems a bit much.

Also, am I the only one who feels kind of bad seeing people shooting at a group, and just charging in and getting credit for all the kills? >.>

Vanguards OP? no.

Infiltrators OP? Yes.

I easily get first place in every match with 75+ kills and 4 shotting atlas mechs in Bronze and can one shot every other unit. As well as stealth cap objectives.

Essentially this.  The class is absolutely ridiculous.

I got to wave 10 on bronze by myself with my lvl 16 vangaurd, the only reason I died was I had to eliminate the enemies and the first one was an atlas surrounded by a few guys so I got screwed because I didn't have any heavy weapon shots when I started.

Atlas are easy to kill with my shotty, when I get it's shield donwn and charge it I swear it stumbles a bit allowing me to back up, shoot it and charge again.

Charge is good to help revive teammates by helping close the distance, knocking the enemy down who downed your team and got full barrier to take more hits.

on bronze I tend to lone wolf it but on silver I try to stick around my team to support and help finish off enemies by blowing off their heads

All the classes become godlike on Bronze. Then I tried Silver, and no, the Vanguard is no longer a titan among ants.

I was playing Vanguard earlier and thought it needed a bit of a buff. I would even come out of a charge downed...

Biotic grenades? Seriously? How about lift or throw? Poor Drell. On a side note though, biotic grenades? Totally overpowered.

Personally I love vanguard. I feel I play it correctly to the T, and I will agree that the vanguard can do tremendous damage if played correctly. The issue is damage over risk, as it's always possible to get caught in a cool-down in a bad spot, or not be able to find a way out because a teammate killed the enemy you wanted to charge to if you needed to get out of there.

I would play vanguard more, if it didn't constantly bug out on me with falling out of the map :P

@zkyire especially if you charge and then nova. And yes, I have seen vanguards do that. They die very, VERY quickly.

That is actually quite effective when you have a good team, but you have to be carrying the bare minimum weight, When im low on shield, I charge into the enemy, use a full powered nova, and I should pretty much be able to dodge out of there if my team covers me. The alternative is nova ---> charge ----> nova, since on max biotic charge, your shields are refilled to the max. :wizard:

Yeah man, this is my main strategy!

I wouldn't say that they're overpowered. It takes a lot of situational awareness and reflexes to succeed. Its a high risk, high reward class and in order for the risk to be warranted, it has to peak higher than other classes in the right circumstances.

Pulling off a weaponless Charge>Nova>Charge>Heavy Melee chain to wipe out a squad of enemies is no easy feat. On Bronze, its pretty straight forward if you've got support and you have Charge down to 3 seconds. Otherwise, you're walking into a grinder.

Its very easy to lose track of Phantoms as you end up in the melee and I think they've gotten me more times than anything else on my Vanguard.

There is no such thing as overpowered in a single/Coop only game.
