I got a lot of use out of heavy melee with my adept. As I mentioned in a different topic all classes will have to engage in melee at some point as enemies will storm your position if you just sit back behind the same bit of cover. You can be quite aggresive with all the classes in me3. Liaras singularity provides instant backup crowd control and even on insanity most enemies have little to no protection so can be instantly cc'd if you run round a corner into them. Shotgun and smg are my favourite guns so far in me3 and I use them with all the classes. Heavy melee is excellent for finishing mooks off or staggering heavies in between shotgun blasts.

I didn't. Then again your looking at the guy wit 85-90% accuracy. I would rather shoot like a mofo and kill them up close than waste my time meleeing. I guess its a skill difference. The only time I've ever found myself using melee is the light attack to distract enemies if multiple ones rush me and I'm depserate in the middle of a reload. It happened once. And even then it didn't kill anyone, just served to give me a space of breathing room.

Oh noes a fancy finisher, mayber it's my pragmatic side talking but I would rather double tap them in the head.

Like Eric said, I also found heavy melee is very powerful after you upgrade the melee damage. I played through a melee focused infiltrator in the demo. after upgrading the 40% melee damage bonus for the cloak, I basically can one-hit kill Turret and Centurion after cloak using heavy melee.

What difficulty were you playing on?

Hadcore. I have 40% melee damage bonus from Cloak and another 30% melee damage bonus from Fitness. Though on Insanity, it's a little tricky. Most time I need get rid of their shield first.

Interesting, I just might try it out. Thnx for the info. :)

I disagree. Heavy melee actually made adept on insanity more agressive. Using pull then heavy melee is great and can easily send enemies flying over a ledge. Also on one playthrough I made a mistake and ran around a corner straight into a shielded enemy. Heavy melee put the shielded enemy on the floor while taking a good chunk of shield off of him. I was able to follow that up with weapon fire and singularity. If this was ME2 that shielded enemy would have shot the heck out of shepard's face.

Heavy melees are a risky move, but if you spend a lot of points upgrading your melee damage they can be deadly. They do take some getting used to, especially against fast moving enemies.

If you're having trouble lining up the move, make sure to have the enemy selected when you start the move, just like you would to target a power at an enemy. Under the hood this will lock the enemy down (stop their movement) and you should hit them.

I'm not quite sure if its lag or something, but I do find that 'should' should be in reaper air quotes whenever I try to heavy melee soon after a charge.

Depends on the class for me, though I never found them useless. On Vanguards, I wonder why I bother even bringing a gun when I can just royally beat down the poor sob who happens to be my target. On more "defensive" characters, I only really use it in "Oh, crap! He's in my face!" situations. Gets the point across, at least.

Try doing a light melee first, it stops the enemy from moving, then hit them with a heavy melee to kill them.

I find heavy melee sometimes more effective than shooting enemies in the face. As long as you finish them off quick enough, melee can save you a lot of ammo. Hopefully with a lvl 30 import, that won't be so much the case. We shall see.

Very situational, but in the right situation, brilliant. I can see infiltrators and vanguards being absolutely ruthless with it.

It's not useless, just situational. Sometimes it can be a good, cost-effective way to bash an enemy's ribcage in, while at other times the delay and vulnerability can do more harm to you than to the enemy. I can definitely see it being far less useful in upper difficulties, though. As a side note, Heavy Melee is a move that goes well with the Infiltrator class's Tactical Cloak, since you can approach an enemy unseen and just BAM! blow them away.

Are you kidding me? Maybe my vanguard has serious anger management issues, but I find heavy malee to be extremely useful. Charge, heavy malee to effectively get rid of shields, shotgun to finish the job. Efficient and soooo much fun!

In fact, I'm just finishing up a ME2 run and miss the heavy malee there.

I was loving the heavy melee with my Soldier up until I got this bright idea to Sprint towards a Cerebus Soldier on Sur'Kesh and try to stab him with my omniblade when he stepped out of the way and dodged the attack, I on the other absorbed so much gun fire in the process that I only had one life bar left, needless to say I won't be trying that again. Is it useless, probably not but it is not as useful in combat as I thought it would be. I find it is alot more useful sticking to the standard melee attack if I have to fight at close range.

Adept one is pretty useful. Not only does it push people back but I love to throw them when they climb the stairs.

It also has a surprising amount of range for a melee attack, actually.

Does the Sentinel one at least do more damage? Two blades, ooh. Others get special effects.

As an Inflitrator the heavy melee has been pretty useful for sneak attacks. People like guardians are a prime target. IF they haven't spotted you, they will focus on visable players and continue walking in their direction. Cloak, go in from behind, and heavy melee them. It should kill them outright or at least knock them forward and push their shield away. At that point the visable players can easily finish him off, or you could as well.

As a Krogan Soldier I melee just about everything in sight. Boost up the health and melee damage where available, and watch the brawl ensue. I've managed to take out tough enemies just by bashing them with the big guy and every time I get a melee kill he gets stronger. If I don't kill them with one hit I just use a trusty shotgun and they are as good as dead.

So heavy melee is great when used correctly.

Im an infiltrator and i use the stealth power and sneak up and heavy melee. Stronger enemies i use cryo blast first. Works great, and does far more damage than a sniper rifle. My main method of attack, and far from useless. Just have to upgrade it and learn how to get it to hit its target. Its really powerful when you use it properly

I was playing a Krogan soldier in mutliplayer, and put every point I had into increasing the melee. I took an Atlas down to half-health on Bronze by heavy melee, and wiped out entire waves of Cerberus by charging alone.

Melee has it's uses.
