I'm getting the boxed game from a store and I wondered, do I have to delete the free standing character creator before I install the game? I posted this on the old DA forum and got mixed opinions, some said yes, and some no. I would like a definite answer before I delete anything. Anyone know for sure?

I recall the thread. And I don't remember anyone saying you had to. You do not have to delete it.

Probably doesn't matter. Is there some reason to think it will conflict with the game install? If there was, I think Bioware would have made this very clear, instead of breaking a bunch of people's installs.

When in doubt, do not delete anything.

I was just wondering if I'll still keep my pre-release character files, or will they be overridden by a new file when I install the game. If so, I'll move that old file somewhere else. But I guess you're right, someone from Bioware would have told us if we had to do that.... I hope.

I'm being safe and not deleting anything. Once I have the game installed and am playing I might delete the creater then.

When you uninstall there will be an option to "Do you want to keep your character file to be imported into Dragon Age: Origins?"
Answer Yes to keep it, No to delete it.
So uninstalling the program should have no bearing on your character's avaliability in the full version.
Sometimes the demo version of a game uses the same registry entries as the real game, so it can conflict with the full version of the game when they are both installed on the same system. It is pretty rare, but I always uninstall demo before installing the full version.

Your character files are by default put in your My Documents directory. When you install the new game it will detect the files in there.

I remember when nwn2 came out I downloaded the pre-release toolset, and that removing that sucker caused a whole mess of troubles for my game. I'd just leave it alone.

I doubt you would be having trouble if you deleted the char creation before installing the game. Not everyone have DLed the CC so those files should be in the game as well. If you wish to keep the characters you created using the CC it will be possible.
I have the CC, but it is limited, so I wont be using the chars I made there in the game itself. I probably uninstall it before installing the game.

CC is limited in what way?

It won't allow you to assign all the starter talent and skill points. But I remember reading somewhere that when you import your charc from the CC to the game, you will be able to assign those points then.

I might be wrong, but on the skills page, not all the skills are available to you. just to test it out I created a city elf, male, rogue and for skills I got coercion and poison making as selectable.
Stealing which requires 10 cunning isn't available. But coercion, which also requires 10 cunning is.
Ok. changed to Dalish elf and I can pick either survival or poison making as skills. Seems I was wrong and your background account for what skills you can pick.
Never mind. move along
