Meaning depending on your audio setup (tv, surround sound, headset, etc) will make a difference depending what setting you put it on?

It does the same thing regardless of what setup you're on, but in general the "low" setting is for small speaker setups.  I find it's very dependant on personal preference though.

Using my Sennheiser HD650's I found the High Dynamic Range setting turned on was amazing. I naturally had the volume cranked though.

B) Uninspired, way too cheesy or sensless dialogues and situations occur quite frequently in the demo. I hope it's because it's an earlier, premature version of the script, but I don't get my hopes to high on this one.
c) If this is the real prologue of the game indeed, then I got to say that it's the one that is the worst by far in the series - no matter the potential and the spectacular setting. As a script-piece and especially as prologue it does not work, it leaves nothing but confusion and questions in the players' minds (even in those who played the firt two installments). It does not let you get involved in the plot at all. It rashes things and lets no time for warming up for the events that await you.

Thanks for reading!

I agree with most of the letter but particularly these two points -  the Alliance committee scene just felt unconvincing - with what Shepard did in ME2 (especially if you had played the Arrival dlc), she/he should have been court marshalled - it would've been more satisfying (and made more sense) to see the opening with Shepard being tried in the military court, and then have all the Reapers attack and subsequent release and reinstatement.

Also got the sense that Bioware is trying really, really hard to tug at players' heartstrings with that kid in the demo, and the new one that will be released on Sunday with the little girl (btw, what's with all the cute white kids? did Bioware ran out of ethnicities?). The whole narrative of "deserving victim" business with children is a very tiring device, and I really hope it won't be a regular feature in this game.

I am very disappointed that ammo powers are back. Again, they just dont make sense what so ever.

Other than that I enjoyed the demo.

As for "realism"
Um who cares its a video game? If you want the real thing go join the military, specifically the infantry. You'll realize that no video game is "realistic"

I actually liked ammo powers. It was one of the few things I was happy to see back in the demo.

Didn't you find that there were issues with the graphics and animations? Shepard also walked REALLY slow, and ran WAY TOO fast.

I hate that one button run, cover, action mapping. I want to run behind a peace of cover and my MP character just takes cover in full view of the enemy. Its annoying as hell.

Oh nono I'm glad to help. You need to copy you character code which is at the bottom of the character creation menu.

Thanks a lot. I´ll try it the next time.

I think the action button got ported over from DA2's awesome button. I found myself rolling around more often than I liked, and on several occasions rolling right out into a hail of fire.

I am a huge fan of Mass Effect  series. But I am highly disappointed with the demo gameplay. Movements are laggy, cover system doesnt work flawlessly , Shephard keeps on jumping around.Coming out of cover is a pain too so is going into the cover! Overall gameplay feels laggy too, movements and shooting feels laggy.  ME2 was much more smoother. Bioware team if you are reading this, are these issues fixed for a final release?

I am seriously considering cancelling my pre-order

First of all, I'm not one of those "ME1 was better" people, I thought ME1 and ME2 were both amazing

Heres why I DON'T like the demo (I have played it once, without trying to look for flaws)

HIT MARKERS- I never had the issue of not knowing when I hit a guy in mass effect 2, because they did good particle effects for bullet impacts In ME2, which are much better than hit markers in ME3

SHEPARD RUN ANIMATION- To me it looks very unnatural and downright silly. It looks like they started from scratch and came up with an animation that was much worse than the ME2 animation (Which I thought was great)

SQUAD ANIMATION- Anderson looks like a fleeing grunt from HALO when he runs, and characters still look like they have a wooden plank strapped to their backs

OVERPOWERED MELEE- I was able to easily kill everyone by simply using the special melee attack. Whenever i did it on a guy, all his buddies would just stop shooting at me and watched me stab the guy

CHEESY LINES: "We fight or we die"

POOR FACIAL ANIMATIONS- The mouths of the characters didn't really match what they were saying at all, and character emotions during cutscenes were very stale

However heres what I LIKED about the demo

SHOTGUN- THe shotgun was the only big flaw in ME2, where it felt like you were shooting water at guys.
In the demo, It felt very poweful and I loved the sound of it.

Overall, It feels like not enough effort was put into refineing this game, and It also just doesn't feel like mass effect at all.

To BioWare: Thank you so much for two amazing games, I hope the third lives up to his name

It is a demo, and I'm sure the full game will be amazing regardless. Have fun not playing ME3 :)

I played the demo again and I realized I was too judgemental the first time

Now my only complaint is the wierd running animation, and I am concerned because It was announced recently that the game was officialy finished, so Im not sure if they will be able to change the running.

Regardless, i will most likely enjoy the game greatly, I trust that bioware knows what they're doing (With the exception of the running animation)

This HAS gotten me killed numerous times, if they made the roll button double tap "A", I think that would fix a lot of problems.

I realize that the reason the demo feels so much like a shooter is because they cut out all of the story-parts, which is the right thing to do.

However, I will never understand this new and improved running animation

Regardless, I will enjoy the game when it comes out:police:

wait wait wait wait wait.... how in the world is cutting story-parts EVER a good idea?

wait wait i can think of some games where that might have been a good idea. however mass effect isnt one of them.

I love the dynamic range option.  I found that ME2's audio was a little
too compressed at times and I'd get a lot of ducking during the more cluttered scenes.
Plus it reduced the epicness of some scenes because the louder parts got
squashed.  So again THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

That's great news!  It's something we haven't done before so it's nice to know that people are finding it useful.

The sound quality has improved a lot, so did the animations (except facial animations), and there are lots of features that have improved or have lots of potential in them, which made the demo a very enjoyable one. But... Joel, there are many-many people here who are concerned about certain issues and bugs you come across by playing the demo, which leaves some questions in many of us:
Could you tell us wether this demo is an older build of the game (same as the leak) or the true and exact representation of what is coming on the 6th of March?
Another question which concerns many people: Are the dialogue system and all the dialogue options deliberately simlplified for the demo's sake (and here I mean those that are present in the actual demo) with all those simple two-choice dialogues and the tons of autodialougue, or is it a genuine representation of the final product?
Many people are looking forward to getting a proper answer to these questions, so please throw us a bone if you can and visit our topic here if you have some time:

Thank you very much in advance in the name of some hardcore fans of ME!

How can people not figure out the damn multiple function for 1 button thing? It took me about 20-30 seconds to do it properly and not mess up...dying over and over and over is your fault not its fault.

Or you know, it's fault when trying to run and you roll and such.

Unless you are playing on the PC (I haven't tested the demo for PC so I wouldn't know) But if you are playing on a console and finding yourself constantly rolling when you go to sprint you are terrible.

I had no problem either and I played it on PC.

I, for one, have no problems with the rolling/taking cover/ vaulting mechanics. Stop blaming the game and try practising more, the problem is you, not the game. The thing that sticks out to me is animations, they should be fixed. As for the lack of dialogue options, too little story etc., this demo has the least possible ammount of spoilers, so there's no need to whine about that too.

I, and many others, are having serious problems with rolling/taking cover/vaulting/running/healing movements assigned to spacebar.  For example:
When I want to heal someone I end up taking cover.
When I want to disable/enable a device (Multiplayer) I end up taking cover. I have to do this multiple times before I actually start enabling/disabling a device.
When I want to run I end up getting stuck to corners and other objects withing reach.
When I want to vault I take cover or take cover 1st then vault.

As well as the rolling problem people already posted about.  From my experience with the demo there is just to many different things assigned to one key.  I would like the ability to reassign rolling, running, taking cover, vaulting (and any other movement) to other keys to avoid doing things I didn't ask to do.  Also, I wonder if assigned more keys to them would allow my character to do them more quickly then they are now.  Because I'm not totally convienced that the time it take to vault should take as long as it does if it had it's own assigned key (among others).

I overall liked the demo. And because it IS a demo, I know there will be a lot of funk with it. The multiplayer is actually a lot of fun, and, maybe you may not agree with me, but I would like to see some future DLC maps for it.

From my analysists, these are thing I found wrong with the demo, and just pray they're not actually in the full game. I say that because Dragon Age 2, Battlefield 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Medal of Honor, have had the same issues in their BETAs/Demos. Kingdoms of Amalur has so few things that the BETA has, that is not in final release, which I thank goodness (great game so far).

-The walking animations are a disaster.
-There seemed to be little going on in the audio & also audio sounded very low.
-Getting shot while in cover. I am 100% positive no one is flanking.
-Button used to perform actions, rolling, cover, have gotten me nearly killed on numerous occasions.
-A lot of the texturing such as armor, water, and other surfaces look awful.

I hope it's an older build.

Now although I am worried that these things would make Mass Effect 3 very bad in its own addition, I am still 100% as excited for the actual release and still have my Collector's Edition reserved.

i approve 100%

vaulting is done by quickly tapping space two times just before the obstacle. And I would like to reassign the running and vaulting/rolling to different keys too, now that I think about it.

Overall I've quite enjoyed the demo. At this point I like a lot of things.

At this point the only thing that I "hate" is:

-- The controls that allow you to slip around the edge of cover while still being in cover rely only on using the direction stick [instead of the other cover moves like direction + A]. I find myself often slipping around cover when I really don't want to and it has resulted in the majority of character deaths I've seen.

Note: When you slip around cover the camera and other controls are taken away for a few moments so there is no way to break or stop this until the animation has completed [at least no way I'm aware of]

When I want to vault over something I can end of taking cover 1st.  Or, at times, it seems there is some odd delay before doing it.  Wouldn't that indicate that I'm actually vaulting without having to explain what keys I'm using?

A question:

Can we enable subtitles in the demo or in the full game? I ask this because I know some gamers are either hearing imparied or deaf. I tried to enable subtitles in the demo but couldn't find a way to this.

Getting shot while in cover.
Yes. I can DEFINITELY relate to that one.

As for rolling around, I think it'll just take some getting used to. I found on my third play through of the demo, it was becoming a lot easier to work those particular controls.
