after playing the demo, that was my main criticism.. i pointed this out in the feedback as well, but thought it could use its own discussion, and i didnt want to hijack that other thread.

anyway..

why wasnt the normandy blown out of the sky during the demo? IMO, shephard and his crew shouldnt have survived ..

i mean the ship was right there for the reapers to destroy, and they said 'meh.. we think these small insignificant transport shuttles are more important than a full military craft carrying the galaxy's only hope for survival.'

...say wha?

also, why wasnt there a full fleet of reaper ships orbiting earth.. unless i missed something, i didnt see any.. i understand a lot of the fleet is on earth destroying cities, but i would have though there would also be a ship presence in orbit as well, and all i remember seeing was bits of fire and debris.

thoughts?

Because it would have made too much sense.

Because the Normandy wasn't actively attacking, and they were going after the easiest targets.

you don't die in the first 10 minutes of the game? clearly this was made to appeal to the Call of Duty crowd, PREORDER CANCELLED!

Hazarding a guess. They'd already settled on the Reaper invasion of earth and built earth assets and the invasion scenes before they got around to the question of "why doesn't he get blown up?"

The answer at that point being "it would be too expensive to change."

Very few games have the plots detailed in initial stages. So sometimes these issues pop up. And by sometimes, I mean in every game. Developing a game isn't like writing a book. It's easy to make changes to a book once the editor reviews it.

Because ME3 would be a really short game if that happened.

1) Destroying the Normandy kind of would have made ME3 a short game
2) Joker is pretty damn good at avoiding shots from OP ships AKA Collector ship at the end of ME2
3) Reaper's have bad eye sight they should have gone to Lenscrafters

Killing innocents hurts Shepard more. Letting him leave Earth, unable to do anything while the Reapers slaughter his people...

Also, the Normandy's plot armour was upgraded. But mostly the whole "This hurts you".

Because the Normandy is pregnant with reaper tech, like Ripley in Alien 3.

Any number of plausible reasons, really. Personally, I like the "it's easier to squash ants that are closer to you than ones that are far away" theory someone here came up with. Sure, it's head-canon, but the game isn't going to change now, no matter how hard you guys like to complain.

As for your second question, about the Reaper fleet in orbit. I would imagine most of them were already touching down on the planet. If any were still in orbit, it's likely they weren't in the vicinity of the Normandy. Remember that even up close to a planet, space is still big.

Because the Normandy is invisible because of it stealth systems.

It could be explained by the Reaper IFF installed onboard the Normandy.

Because the Normandy has stealth systems that prevent scanners from detecting it

It's practically invisible to the Reapers

Did they see the Normandy carrying Shepard?
If they did, then it should have been blown up.
If they didn't, it was allright.

This is why I said "head, meet desk"; I knew already someone would respond with this, I can only think Reapers must be "blind"
