Or maybe they're an impossibly ancient alien race who don't see anything as any more of a threat than anything else and practice a form of warfare that's closer to harvesting a field than fighting a foe.
ME1 and ME2 disclaim that theory.

Lmfao, They shouldve thought of that for dialogue.

They gank an individual threat and go to the trouble of attacking Earth first, but I'm not sure you can extrapolate when you're talking about complex ancient super beings. This is the main force engaged in extermination rather than a single entity seeking a goal.GnusmasTHX wrote...

Don't you kind of see their eyes?Sheepie Crusher wrote...
Because the Normandy has stealth systems that prevent scanners from detecting it
It's practically invisible to the Reapers
But I know what you mean OP, if you have the choice to blow up a couple of cillivan transports or a warship that could bugger you up you'd go for the warship

What's the alternative? Trying to stop them with the Normandy alone?Synyster24 wrote...
A better question is why does Shepard think that he will have enough time to recruit all the races because shouldn't the reapers be able destroy earth in about a day?

Yeah, Reapers are cyborgs, but their eyes are sensors.VLJ wrote...

Apparently Stealth Systems are irrelevant because I'm not sure if tehy work in the environment.
Anyway, IMO the Reaper was busy destroying its attackers. I'm sure that it wasn't the most sophisticated type of Reaper anyway. Proof being that it could not act fast enough to kill a Thresher Maw.

The Normandy wasn't shot down because it would be a really really short game if it had.
it got "shot down" in ME2

Because the Normandy is pregnant with reaper tech, like Ripley in Alien 3.
For some reason, I find this explanation the most probable.

There isn't anything to stop the Reapers from attacking the Normandy and yet there is no reason for them to specifically target it.

They wear them brazenly, like war scars. As though they'd fought rationality itself, slain it, and somehow made it out alive.
I totally hear you, but in order to enjoy Bioware games I have to shut off high-narrative expectations. They're known for plot, but they're really more adept at creating fun characters and atmosphere. The plot is more implicit, enough information for you to know which tropes they're working with. It's really very Brechtian - it challenges you to suspend disbelief by flying in the face of it.
It's best to allow for such things (think of it as "magic realism" if you can't accept it as professional fan fiction) if you want to enjoy a Bioware game. Pretty much every mission in ME2 has much larger plot holes. (One of my favorite still being the 'cunning plan' of getting to Archangel by running through a killing field where everyone was dying while disguised as a target... brilliant.
