 I tired using a random Shepard in ME2, and all that did was put me in the worst case scenario. The ME2 default choices were terrible. The council died, so I had to deal with aliens that hated humans because the council died, Wrex was dead, the Rachni queen was dead,the Feros colony was dead, and that ****** Udina was the Ambassador. Not to mention the game felt a little empty without the events that came from importing a character. Unless the default choices in ME3 are decent, I will NOT be doing another random Shepard again.

Claim dismissed Mr Priestly, I discovered ME1 and ME2 with a particular Shepard, and that would be the case with ME3

I don't plan to do this for my first play. Even from ME2, I noticed all of the characters that made a return. Mr. Priestly mentions that couple discussing the child - they show up in ME2 as well. They're in one of the shops in the Citadel. You can't talk to them, but you can overhear their conversations. I noticed them right away. There was that asari that was taken over by the thorian in ME1. Again, I noticed her right away and realized who she was (though I did forget she had been blue and just the thorian clones of her were green so I was glad Shepard reminded me in the conversation bits). There's even some characters from ME1 that show up in vids on the Shadow Broker's ship (LotSB DLC) that I recognized and was like "hey, it's x character from ME1 who was doing x thing!"

I have played ME1 and ME2 through several times each. I'll recognize each character from those 2 games that makes a return in ME3, even if their part in those games was very small.

I do think I'll do it for a second game though. I kinda like the new default FemShep.

Hmm maybe I'll do it EVENTUALLY as Chris suggested (as I did with ME2). But you'd be surprised how much players can remember. A nice contrast at the very least I suppose.

Me too. I didn't know it was possible to only play it once.

What is the default state of who survives Virmire based on?
Is it randomly generated from numerology based in your chargen name with perhaps the current dates zodiac thrown in as a random variable?

Interesting suggestion but not gonna go for it. It takes the mystery away when it comes time for my Shep to experience all the hoopla.

Wasn't the point of this trilogy, one of it's original selling points that I would be able to create a character, make decisions, and see them play out over 3 games? I mean that was one of the things you guys sold us on. Now you don't want us to do that? I mean I'm actually surprised that someone who works for BW would even suggest this. But given the way things with ME3 have been going I shouldn't be.

I'll stick to seeing how the galaxy turns out for Asriel, Athena, Revan, Daenerys, Malcolm, and Damian Shepard if you don't mind. And if I need to see how different it could be after that, I'll pop in ME and create a new one to see the game the proper way. The way it used to be intended to be played.

hmm interesting you handsome devil you. but here is my question, if i do as you ask and play the default game first, would i have enough time to play that and my import save in a month? i am leaving to basic training about the first week of April and wont be able to play game at all for about 14-15 weeks.

so would you recommend me playing my Shepard or default Shepard if i want to play 100% of Mass Effect 3?

I have 5 Shepards, Multiple saves, in all class, but one (Engineer) I plan on playing them all and then start fresh with my Engineer using the default FemShep. I play ME 1 & 2 numerous times and will remember the differences, but my Canon playthroughs come first.

I told Chris months ago, that I was going to play through with no imports. Now he is passing it off like his own idea. ya ya, fine. It is the best way to see what choices affect what and if there are outcomes we can manipulate. I have ME and ME2 all ready for me to make some custom saves to import to ME3. I just need the game to play through.

Interesting recommendation, and good to hear advance thoughts like this from those who are able to play early.

Not dissuading me from using an import though. I want to complete my Shepard's story. And the thought of certain characters not being in my game is frankly horrifying. If Mordin, Garrus, Liara or Tali, to name just a few, were to somehow not show up in my first ME3 game, I'd be dangerous for a little while to people in my immediate proximity.

Opposite sex. In ME3, you choose.
