That's pretty neat-o, Priestly - but my OCD cannot allow that.

It goes like this:
Playthrough 1: Canon Shep, whatever mode - I just do whatever I want and whatever happens happens, hooray!
Playthrough 2: Runner Up Canon Shep, save and try everything mode - I want to know what every option is!
Playthrough 3 - 500: Other Sheps, try to see every ending, all classes, all romances, etc.
Playthrough 501: Canon Shep ULTIMATE GOLD EDITION PERFECTION COMPLETION PLAYTHROUGH
Playthrough 502: Let's see what Default Shep does...

This made me chuckle... probably because, despite my ****ing, I'm going to be doing the same thing... while still ****ing. What? I'm allowed to be inconsistent.

Benefits of importing

*Your character automatically starts at level 30 on earth (with free class respec and point respec and maybe even bonus power respec) if you import a Maxed character.
*Everyone you care about is alive
*Bonus credits (This is always handy early game)

etc.. There are many benefits. Most of them will make the game easier.

Haven't read through all of 14 pages so bare with me if this has already been mentioned.

Chris, why not do it the other way around? First import our save and on a second/third/whatever playthrough start a "clean" game and see the changes. The outcome will be the same.;)

Agreed, that's what I did with ME2.  There is no way I would start ME3 on a non import.

Because Priestly has an inflated ego, perhaps, and thinks all threads created by him are greatly important?

I was thinking about doing this but I know i have a habit to metagame things when replaying. I think ill just import my favorite Shepard first and make all the mistakes so to speak so I can have a better thrill of ME3. But Chris Priestly your idea is genius because I do wanna see how ME3 is with no import file, just id rather metagame the non-import file than my favorite Shepard. I just really want the thrill and sadness of accidently killing Liara, my favorite ME character, assuming i make such a mistake.

To each his own I guess, no way I'm not using my own Shepard though.

You don't have to abstain from importing to see this. My first runthrough of ME2 I made the mistake of importing a ME1 file where I actually roleplayed and made the choices that made sense to me. I was amazed to see all the content that was cut out of the game for EVERY renegade choice. The only imports that give the most content were 100% Paragon for every decision and sidequest. Extra emails, more cameos, radio messages, even greater quest rewards in ME2. I expect ME3 will be the same.

The one thing i will never be doing is playing a default ME3 game based on the demo. I do have a feeling they've designed the game to be played with default Shep though and this sticky just reinforces that suggestion. Really makes me worry about the ability to roleplay my imported Shephard. Maybe once there is dialogue choice in the intro it won't feel like they made a deliberate effort to define Shephard and destroy roleplaying. Here's hoping.

What a stupid idea. I can't believe we're being told how to play the game.

I can't help but think that Priestly is just trying to cover up for a sub par import system.

This is a terrible idea.

I understand the motivation, but I can't help getting worried when I come to the Forums and the first thing I do is see someone from BioWare telling us to ignore the import feature first time through. Combined with the BS Action/RP/Story mode nonsense I get worried about what BioWare really thinks it's doing.

It sounds like Priestly is saying this because BioWare thinks that importing the game is so inconsequential that we won't even notice without playing the normal game first. Here's a hint! Make it consequential!

What I am going to say is just an ASSUMPTION after the completion of the single player demo. Mass Effect 3 is still a good and enjoyable game, but might be disappointing as a continuation of the previous titles. We may even call Mass Effect.Reloaded soon. To avoid frustration it is probably a good idea to start the game with a new character. Just to soften the possible sense of mismatch.

my only desire its continue the adeventures of my Female Shepard, i made 4 profile,
and in this time i'm start another in Mass Effect 1, i made Full Heroes, Heroes\\Renegade,
i save people and i kill some people in Mass Effect 1 for look the effect in ME2, and i'm so
curious for the consequences,

for my Mass Effect trilogy its one game, and i don't like the idea to play out of the adventure
starterd in the first chepter,

i'm pc gamer, and i'm happy to play ME on pc, but i'm nervius for think Mass Effect was made in the first time for xbox360 exclusive!

Hmm.

BioWare is telling us: "Whatever **** u did in ME1 and ME2 doesn't really matter in ME3, so give up ur imports and go without them!"?

Because absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Or Chris just felt like it, whichever is more likely.

So was Priestly drunk at a Bioware staff party for finishing ME3 when he wrote this?

Zounds the Priestly changed his avatar.

I can see your point Chris, buttttt, it's going to be awfully hard to resist the temptation to take "my Shepard" into that virgin ME3 playthrough...

I'll think about it, the idea is interesting.
