This is a crazy idea, but DONT import your saves the first time through (minor spoiler)

I agree with everyone else. I have 8 save files from ME2 only 2 of which I brought through ME1 and I can't imagine playing the first play-through with anyone but my first Shepherd (especially because of all of the ME1 characters I interacted with who were minor subplots). I'm sure that when I play with my other Shepherds who were new to ME2, especially the defaults before the Genesis DLC was released, it will be obvious what was added by what is missing.

I want some interactive comic or some "save generator" in ME3. Cause i've done ME2 on pc (and me1) - and i do not want to play it on pc any further - no gamepad support makes my choice simple - xbox version. But i do not want to play some "rewriten for newbies" version - i saw all dialogues in me2, i finished all DLC, i know everything to this point.

I want to belive that "shepard generator" in demo are lite version of what we will see in full version, or made some interactive DLC gen, even if it will be not free. I could buy ME2 on xbox, but i have not enough time to finish it with all dlc :(

Ok, one little spoiler as an illustration, but it is minor. Remember that couple in ME1 on the Citadel debating whether to have a child or not?

What the hell you talking about? Petrovsky family, Rebekah and Michael? They not debating about having child, but about whether do genetic therapy or hope her Luck is 9 or more (FNV FTW BTW!).

Chris Priestly wrote...

If you import, they are in the game! If you don't, their role isn't there. These are the little details you pick up only when you know they weren't there the first time.

Oh, and I thought I'm Captain Obvious here...

Why play "empty" game, care to explain? Or it's just advice, sort of DA2 "harbringer" - no matter of our choices you will dismiss them and substitute them with your own?

Not sure I'm seeing the point here. I will still see the details by playing through different saves.

That's what happened with ME2 for instance with Helena Blake that I met or not on Omega depending on my actions in ME1.

Ahmmmm... what? And here I was thinking it was something about how importing a save file first would screw up the game somehow.

Blah, I will never play with the default Shepard.

No.

I spent hours on those playthroughs. I don't care about the default options, I care about my options.

Perhaps this idea is because if you import your Shepard, he/she isn't going to look anything like he/she did in ME:2 anyways so you might as well just play the default with no save files.

Course, there is hopes that the face code problem won't be the case when doing an import.

Hmm... lets see, ME3 is touted as so special and different from other games by Casey and Bioware PR/Marketing staff in numerous interviews because of its ability to import from ME1 and ME2 our own unique Shepard.

But in this post you suggest the exact opposite. What's wrong with this picture?

He did: it's so that you can appreciate the presence of carryover content by realizing what's different when you do import, without feeling that you have an 'empty' game when you do that.

By understanding the baseline first, you can better appreciate the carryover they did bring in. If you played the carry-over first, you'd mentally set that as the baseline.

scientists agree with you.  how do you know how unique your shepard is without looking at baseline shepard?

Use a default Shepard on my first ME3 play-through?  No.  Absolutely, unreservedly, resoundingly--no.

Shepard's story arc is the linchpin of the entire series. BioWare has said it many times. They've assured players that increased emphasis on shooter gameplay and multiplayer features won't ruin the storytelling. Even the latest marketing material highlights interactive storytelling.

So I'm going to see how my Shepards' stories play out just as soon as I possibly can, and not just from a narrative standpoint. I want to see how well BioWare has incorporated my decisions from ME and ME2. I want to evaluate their success in maintaining depth, breadth, and continuity throughout, and not just via spiffy emails. I want to see how well each chapter interacts--I want to see interactive storytelling spanning all three games, not just on the ME3 dialogue wheel.

Will I ever play through ME3 using a default character? Sure. I did it twice for ME2, and it was fun for all the reasons Chris mentions.

But my first time through I'm eager to see two things: how my Shepard's story ends, and whether or not BioWare has fulfilled its promises.  March 6th can't come soon enough.

Chris -

I find it pretty weird that threads get locked for posting spoilers and here you are *sarcasm* making an example for everyone. */sarcasm*.

But anyway - I didn't quite understand your whole logic about it either.
At least not to die hard fans who've stuck with the series since ME1.

It simply makes no sense.

It perhaps makes more sense for people who've never played the game - so in that regard I just consider your post a marketing gag - but anyway.

I suppose those who have 20 save games, etc. will eventually come around to playing all games without any save game carrying over as well - just for the experience.

Maybe it's just my pessimistic nature shining through but this sounds suspiciously like you're trying to stall for time, sir.

However, even if the suggestion is genuine with no hidden agenda (and assuming I were to buy the game at all), no deal. I had to deal with having no Kaidan in the entirety of Mass Effect 2 save for one incident where he traumatized my poor Shepard by calling her mean names; I want to see how you've handled his relationship with my femShep. Of course, if there were an option to select a previous romance for a new game, I might be more amenable. Unless that happens, no way in heck would I be doing this.

I understand Chris, but there's no way I'm doing my first ME3 playthrough without my paragon sentinel FemShep :P

Noted. I may do this, then again I really only have one actual ME1 playthrough. Perhaps this should be rectified. Damn you Genesis for not letting us make all decisions!

In that plot where the krogan was just a random krogan in charge of a troop, now it is Grunt!

WOW! A decision you made resulted in a different mesh and textures being used on a random Krogan? AWESOME!!!1!111

It's so amazing that people's previous choices will have such an enormous impact on ME3.

Interesting idea, and I totally see the reasoning behind it, but for me, I can't avoid playing as "me", if I played a normal Shepard now with no history behind the character, it wouldn't feel right.

There is also the fact that you only get one first playthrough, and most people are going to want that play-through to be a direct continuation from where they left off.

Sorry Chris... Put to much time, and effort in all of my sheps. I couldn't just betray Joran Shepard like that. That would be an atrocity-(spellcheck.)

Sorry Chris I just have to import to live.

Default Shep will come last on my list.
