This is a crazy idea, but DONT import your saves the first time through (minor spoiler)

FRACK THAT!
I haven't invested 100 hours in my shep over two games to not have them carry into my first playthrough of ME3.

Considering that in ME2 playing default meant less camaeos, e-mails (so much for importing choices), and especially Shepard being a lazy full renegade, I´m not thrilled about default ME3. As he said, Shepard didn´t wake Grunt/got him killed - replaced by random krogan, so probably not a big impact on the storyline, just will makes things more personal, and that´s something I´d rather have since the first playthrough.
This.
And I don't want a random krogan, but Wrex.
I don't know, but The First experience of the game is 'special' and it will be more rich if it's full with details I can recognize, i think

Yes yes, I hear you ranting at me "Priestly! You hadsome fool, of COURSE we are going to import our saved games into ME3. Why, I have 17 saves and I'm bringing each one. ME3 is all about finishing MY Mass Effect story, etc etc" and yeah I totally get that, but hear me out.
That was always the plan, it was how I played ME2 the first time and it made the imported replay so much more satisfying when I noticed the changes that I made when I imported my ME1 saves.

I did. Still going to import my first Shepard. It would feel wrong if I didn't.
Remember that couple in ME1 on the Citadel debating whether to have a child or not?
ME 1 and 2. And, unless there's a mission I don't know about, they were arguing about gene therapy. Also, the guy was just the uncle.

That goes against common logic for those who have played the previous games.
Whats this all about, downplaying the point of playing the previous games or the fact that choices never mattered?
I think it's more about highlighting how much impact your previous games actually did have on the way the game plays out. If all the influences you've made are in there from the start then you'll take them for granted and since you probably won't play the default game on following playthroughs you may never actually see the differences.

doing so means that I'm playing Bioware's Shepard not the Shepard I created with the options you gave me....
This is the 100% HUGE flaw with my theory.

I'm going to do quite the opposite - first play with my character, and eventually default to see what is going to get missing.

This is not my entry point to the series, I don't need to play it like it were. I would actually be very mad if I played it without seeing my decisions or my previous Shep's stories reflected in any of my ME3 runs and there will be many!
Now, if I could start an imported character at level 1 instead of 30, that would be a good idea for me. I don't want to make Insanity any easier than it already is if an imported level 30 char would cause that. (and no matter how hard it is, soon enough it will be even easier). So I ask you, can we start fresh with an imported character?

You can argue that by waiting for your second run to see the original or "canon" shep storyline may make it seem not as impressive. Just one more thing to make you go hmmm.

The first time I played through ME3 in its completed state I played the default game,
the default game kinda sucks
like wrex vs wreav
wreav does not stand out
even if i had not met wrex, he has new ideas and fire in his belly
if wreav for example was not just krogan 6663
it would be interesting
That is why playing renegade sucks for the most part you kill everyone and see no interesting content
.
Renegades won't have any cool characters they exclusively come across and when we do they seem like stand ins or second fiddle

BUT I do get what is being asked. IF you play through it without a save, you'll notice just how much 'richer' the playthrough with your imported character is. To save time (lost ME1 game saves last year), I used the 'genesis' item to cover the major decisions and romances, but ME2 was missing tons of content when I played it again. No Gianna Parsinni (spelling), No surviving asari from the thorian battle, I don't see the asari from Saren's base (I let her live usually), etc, etc. It's pretty empty.
It's like books and movies based on them. The books are always better than the movies, so if possible I'll read the books after the movies - that way I'm pleasantly surprised.
Off-topic-ish: Chris mentions the Widow and her brother-in-law arguing in ME1, you'll briefly see them in ME2, they are in one of the lower level shops on the Citadel shopping.

We don't know (at least, the most of us) the story. You (I presume) already knew what to expect of the game. I do not. While playing ME2 I already noticed all the flags, that were imported to the game, and it made the game more involving. I want to discover the story with the Shep I looked at for compined 80+ hours, not just scout the territory with a random grunt and then give my main Shepard (which I have a connection with) a go.
It's like suggesting a full paragon playthrough the first time, and a real role-playing the second time. The difference between the gasp moments after watching your Shep in some awesome cutscene for the very first time, and knowing what will happen in a minute, because you saw the default Shep doing it.
You are wrong on SO many levels, or you are just trying to troll.

Yep, that really does sound crazy. I intend to that at some point, but certainly not on my very first playthrough. You only get one first playthrough, and it's not going to be wasted playing as RandomShepNumber1.
