Not a bad idea, but, to me, my choices throughout the series is the whole point of mass effect

I have 20 Shepards Priestly.
20!
I've clocked more than 600 hours on those bad boys/girls!
Like frell am I not going to import them!
I will be doing clean slate/non import playthroughs, but not the first time, no siree!
BeardShepard's story will end in 3 AND IT WILL BE GLORIOUS! *shakes fist at devs*
(for reference through, I fully finished 7 ME1 playthroughs, then imported those 7 into ME2, and thusly made 13 other playthroughs using Genesis/default)

I had a similar idea when I imported my Mass Effect 1 saves into ME2. I played with my least developed character first, then moved on to complete the game with my two main characters.
Of course, at the time I was planning to have that "undeveloped" character die at the end of the Suicide mission, but then I realised I wanted an Adept for ME3 as well as a Soldier and Infiltrator, so I replayed the game and just lost everyone on the team except Zaeed and Jacob.

Still, as good as an idea this sounds, I'll pass. My three playthroughs right now are so distinctly different that it's already entertaining enough as it is. No need for a "control group", I believe.

Edit: Sorry, made it sound like I made only 3 playthroughs. I made 5 different stories, but the Vanguard and Sentinel are distinctly dead due to bad choices in the final mission. It's a parallel universe thing, and I only want the Archetype Trio (Warrior, Rogue, Sorceror) to be in Mass Effect 3. I'll try to get the Adept killed, though, I really think he lacks personality. His LI is Ashley, after all.

It's not a bad idea really... but I don't think I would be able to do it. I'm too impatient to find out what the repercussions are of my choices. So I understand it, but I can't do it Lol

Thanks for the suggestion however I'll import my "true" Shepard to ME3. I waited to this final chapter for ages and I want to enjoy the first time in my canon.

This is something of an intriguing suggestion. At the moment I only have 2 really distinct saves to import and I'm quite curious to see what affect, if any, my various decisions have had versus the default canonical presentation. Having a point of comparison couldn't be all bad. I'm just not sure if I'd want to do the default playthrough -first-. That I'll have to consider before hand.

In my case, what will make or break ME3 more than anything else is, in fact, the variation on outcomes and content that comes with imported saves. This is, after all, supposed to be the big payoff so this topic is quite relevant to me on a personal level. I really do hope we get more than E-mails or a broken Conrad Verner this time.

there's something wrong with the save importer isn't there?

Yep, that really does sound crazy. I intend to that at some point, but certainly not on my very first playthrough. You only get one first playthrough, and it's not going to be wasted playing as RandomShepNumber1.

Yes yes, I hear you ranting at me "Priestly! You hadsome fool, of COURSE we are going to import our saved games into ME3. Why, I have 17 saves and I'm bringing each one. ME3 is all about finishing MY Mass Effect story, etc etc" and yeah I totally get that, but hear me out.

The first time I played through ME3 in its completed state I played the default game, so I didn't import a save. This lets the game make assumptions for you on the story of the game and what has happened previously. I played it, I enjoyed when certain charcters returned and I noted certain choices were made for me. I finished the game and really enjoyed it. Then I imported a save and replayed it.

Now I see how all the choices I made in my ME1 and ME2 playthroughs effect ME3. That guy who was just some guy in my first default game, is now a character I remember encountering in ME1. In that plot where the krogan was just a random krogan in charge of a troop, now it is Grunt! And the ending I saw previously with the default guy changes in interesting ways because it is Grunt and he and Shepard have history and stuff (I won't go into spoiler details, but it is wicked cool) and there is SO MUCH more like that through the game. Some major some minor.

Ok, one little spoiler as an illustration, but it is minor. Remember that couple in ME1 on the Citadel debating whether to have a child or not? If you import, they are in the game! If you don't, their role isn't there. These are the little details you pick up only when you know they weren't there the first time.

If I had imported my save first, it would still have been aswesome, but it would have been almost what I expected. I expect to see returning characters. I expect my choices to matter. I expectdialogs to change based on the choices I made. By playing the default game first, that just isn't there to the degree I expected as a fan. Importing after the first playthough better illustrated that what I did before actually mattered.

Still, I may just be crazy. For me, this made ME3 even better the second time around.

So Chris, how was the first level and its cutscene compared to the demo?  I felt that the demo intro was a bit short and didn't properly set up the game for me...

Hmm /foodforthought

I actually see the logic, having done the exact same thing for me2 (not on purpose just didnt keep my saves). Going back in again with an imported save and seeing all the changes, even things like the news etc.. Actually now I think about it, it made me the rabid bioware fan I am today.

Thanks for the reminder Chris!

Huh? Are you serious?

There were no major changes that seemed to matter

if you let the council die , the citadel was supposed to be a police state, looks exactly the same. All we see are two mad asari and the occasional "you let the council die" here and there. Missions were not affected

Tuchanka. Wrex is replaced by Wreav. Nothing interesting of note

Conrad Verner for people who did not kill him

The VS reuinion.

and like 2-3 news blurbs

I would not call those major changes but minor tweaks

and that is what i expect for me3 as well

I think your just nitpicking now mate, I enjoyed going through mass effect seeing whats different.. Please don't tell me you made 15 of the same Shepards. Image IPB

I played ME2 like this, actually. But it was not on purpose.

I had played ME1, but I deleted it shortly after completion (including saves). I played ME2 on  default first. I inmediatly started my now canon Shep, I imported, and it was pretty cool to watch all the extras.

I think I might do this again (if anything, because I fear I might screw up with canon shep, and destroy the universe or something).

What about PS3 players who don't have any ME1 choices made aside from the 6 from the comic? I played ME1 on Xbox360 and I want to see them in my PS3 ME3 playthrough (no longer have Xbox360). What about Conrad for us PS3 players?

It's nice talking about importing, but what about PS3 users who at best could only import a ME2 save file with only 6 choices made in ME1!!!!

It's an interesting idea, but as some already said, there is no way I'm going to 'waste' my first playthrough by playing as some random Shep.

Mr. Priestly, Mr. Priestly... The ideas you have can sometimes be truly insane. However, I just might try this.

My first playthrough of ME2 was a brand new game of ME2 because I hadn't played ME1 yet. However, after I beat ME2 I went out and purchased ME1 and played through and subsequently imported. The change was astronomical. I somewhat endorse this. I will most definitely be giving it consideration.

I just thought, what if that intro kid turns out to be little Jeremy (or whatever the hell they called him).

That's why they show up all crying on the Citadel. They're arguing that they should have got the better gene modification. He could have made it to an earlier shuttle.

This is the real reason Chris brought it up. Because he found out it was the congenital heart failure kid, and it blew his mind.

I think Priestly is just about the right amount of handsome, chaotic, crazy and substantial.

And hell no will I play the default mode anytime soon. I have twelve meticiously planned out diverse Shepards to import and I should be experiencing more than enough diversity with those than me having to resort to the game making decisions like that for me.

I am anti-crazy so to speak.

Now I better get off unless I want to annihilate with some crazy people and set off this place as if by nuking.

He's just trying to say start a default ME3 Shepard so that you can fully realize the differences when you play your imported Sheps. He never said anything about NEVER importing!

Anyway, I think it's a great idea that I wouldn't have thought of. I'll try it out. Image IPB

That kinda sucks for PS3 gamers but you KNEW the loss when you decided to buy for PS3 or at the very least you bloody well should have known what the price was going to be...more so since you played ME1. I'm having a hard time feeling for those that decided most ME1 choices were no big deal and now want to complain.
