Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I just am looking too hard for something to be wrong. But it seems to me like Shepard did a lot of talking on his own in this game, especially in the opening. I picked roleplaying and all that so I figured I would be able to pick all his dialogue, guess I was wrong. :/
It feels like this is a first in the series or at least I don't ever remeber this happening before. Anybody else bugged by this? I felt like the stuff Shepard said didn't fit my view of Shep.
That's a lot of talking, Shep.....

If it is the case I would actually like it, to be honest... if handled well... let me choose the tone of his response for a topic, and not each sentence. It let's the cutscene flow a bit better... (IE, they can walk and talk at the same time, it doesn't need to keep pausing...)
However, I heard that for the demo, the dialogue options were simplified.
What was a bigger problem for me was that it got to the action too quickly... the invasion needed a bigger lead-in. Just a short dialogue-focused scene with any character occurring before being summoned to the alliance chamber would've been sufficient.

There are a few theroies about that.
We have seen the default ME3 Shepard, which is tailored for new players, it is possible that imported characters get more talking options, as they can refer to more events, after all, they were there. So maybe it's just to avoid confusing newcomers.
Or -and that seems more viable to me- it was intended to keep up the pacing of the events in the introduction.
Or it was a bit cut to not spoil certain details before the release.
I think it will be more sophisticated in the full game, if not there, then in the conversations after the itroduction.
After all it's a BioWare game, and BioWare RPGs (No, that C&C game is not a BioWare one, they are just using the BW logo, it's a new team developing it from what I've heard.)

It certainly isn't "a first in the series". ME2 had a few situations where Shep had some lines you didn't choose yourself. In ME1 these where hidden: You got the wheel, but all options led to the same line. Not many cases, but it happened from time to time.
And as it has been stated that the demo is a bit reduced, i don't think there is reason to worry.
