Headlines for 8 August 2012

Armed only with a rolled up newspaper and a great deal of patience, Challseus has been crushing bugs in and misconceptions of his Rose of Eternity game! As ever his journal entertains us with the myriad of tasks that go into game development as well as the occasional astute tennis observation. And, as if that wasn't enough, he even found the time to start a riot (of colour):

No sooner had last week's issue left our virtual printing press than Lord Methrid dropped us a line to let us know about his on-going machinima project Galaxia. By all accounts the script is ready and the machinima will be produced using Dragon Age Toolset. Additional inspiration will be provided by dedication of the cast and the support of the Dragon Age Builder Community!

Building on last week's trailer, AmstradHero has been giving us an insight into what he's been up to recently while working on The Shattered War. In his blog this week he talks about aspects of the play-testing he has been conducting and reveals that that some quests can be solved entirely through dialogue and exploration rather than through combat!

Coming to the aid of potentially beleaguered builders, sea- has created a new project to provide alternative versions of some of the existing campaign levels at different times of day. The explicitly named Single Player Levels Time of Day Tweaks project has raw level files (with lightmaps included) just waiting for you to update your Origins game or incorporate into your standalone module. Please read the instructions before consuming this stimulant!

City of Athkatla tour guide and occasional art gallery custodian, Mooglator has laid on another visual feast for us. On the Baldur's Gate 2: Redux banquette table this week are more stills from the opening cutscene and a couple of new angles on a well known location. All of these succulent delicacies are served up for your delectation in this week's Sunday Update!

cmessaz has created a new Beta Testing Group dedicated to testing, brainstorming and, if needed, offering some moral support as she returns to modding DA:Origins. From a quick glance at the future plans it appears like there is something new and exciting in the works for each of the romancable companions and a couple of the more popular NPCs. So if this sounds like something you would enjoy why not drop in and lend a hand or two?

New on the Nexus

Delving into the latest files on Dragon Age Nexus we find Kwiat_W is clothing us with the Robes of the Four Elements mod; Aldaroshka is accompanying us with the I Am Your Man - Zevran Arainai mod; amnes is protecting us with the Cleaned Blood Dragon Armor Texture mod; and ViLiSSa is watching us with the Elven Cats Eyes for DAO by ViLiSSa mod.

And Finally ...

This will be the last issue of Dragon Age Modders' Weekly Digest from me. After six months it seemed like an appropriate time to pack up my Toolset and move on to pastures new.

The goal of the Dragon Age Modders' Weekly Digest was to gather up all the Dragon Age Toolset related goodness that was floating around the recesses of the BioWare Social Network and the far-flung reaches of internet and deposit it right here on your doorstep. I like to think the Digest has done that and I hope that in the process it was, at least a little, interesting, informative and/or amusing: I know that I have been delighted to discover how vibrant the Dragon Age Community is and that it still very much alive and kicking.

I confess I'm a little sad that it is time to part company but before I do I wanted to wish all of those who are still slaving away day after day the very best of luck with their projects and I hope the rest of you all enjoy playing these creations when they are ultimately released.

Headlines for 15 February 2012

After a relatively slow start to the month, possibly due to a minor sporting event called the Super Bowl, Challseus has been very busy implementing custom skills for his Rose of Eternity module and talking about them in his blog.

On Sunday Mooglator dropped by to let us know a new crop of images were available in the BGR Blog and some of them were even vaguely related to the team's Baldurs Gate 2 Redux: Athkatla project!

Monday also started strong with AmstradHero explaining some of the important decisions involved in the combat design for his The Shattered War module.

Queen of the cutscenes, DahliaLynn has created a new facebook page featuring lots of her Dragon Age videos.

Allacia also had a busy week creating a new group dedicated to her Cullen Cutscenes and posting her Cullen and Solona Amell Argument/Romance Cutcene video on YouTube.

Although technically more than a week ago, ethical infant posted her new cutscene on YouTube and the other members of the Dragon Age Toolset Cutscene Creators Guild seem rather taken with!

The Headlines for 22 February 2012

YouTube contributor Oreisia has uploaded a new music video entitled Kaihel x Srintella - Love Song Requiem, based on Oreisia's own world but brought to life using the Dragon Age Toolset. And as if that wasn't enough we stolen a single frame from the video to tempt you with:

New kid on the block Kianta405 is bidding one of her companions a fond farewell at Alistair's Funeral. But don't be sad because she's also working on three other Alistair mods!

Winter is slowly fading and the members of the The Dragon Age Friendly Toolset Initiative group are discussing how to give the Dragon Age Toolset forums a long overdue spring clean. Why drop in and let them know what you think?

Punctual as ever Mooglator posted another Sunday update BGR Blog regarding the relentless progress of the Baldurs Gate 2 Redux: Athkatla project.

It may have been an uphill path but AmstradHero has let us know that The Shattered War introduction is approaching beta. If you are interested in getting your hands on it when it is ready his contact details in the post.

Giddy as a school girl (his words) Challseus interrupts his work on custom skills to add some newly received VO samples to his Rose of Eternity module.

Headlines for 29 February 2012

AmstradHero gives us an insight on what to expect in terms of getting to know your companions and the major characters in The Shattered War. Think Mass Effect with a medieval fort instead of a spaceship and, um, well, it's nothing like that! But it might be a lot like this:

Wielding the Morph Editor's sliders as a plastic surgeon's wields a scalpel, A_b_i___C_h_a_n has added three new or improved elven ladies (Hope, Lanaya and Gheyna) to her expanding collection of head morphs.

Dragon Age Nexus contributor kani_hime has also been doing a little cosmetic surgery: her Companions Redesign mod gives the companions in Origins, Awakening, Leliana's Song and Witch Hunt a much needed face lift. The mod is this week's Hottest File so remember your Gauntlets of Fire Resistance when downloading!

Staying with companions, Caldargo has a couple of lovely ladies, Britney (a dwarven Bard) and Tory (an elven Arcane Warrior), who are keen to accompany the Warden across the length and breadth of Ferelden! They are currently available as a beta download from the Sisters in Arms project.

Waxing lyrical Mooglator the Bard graces us with another Sunday Update in the BGR Blog where we see the Baldurs Gate 2 Redux: Athkatla project take a turn for the theatrical. He also raves incoherently about monkeys but don't let that bother you.

Yet more VO has been turning up and mesmerising Challseus, allowing him to complete one of the scenes in his Rose of Eternity module before he takes time to talk tactics: custom ones of course!

alschemid is once again building all manner of Loghain related goodness in his Sandbox and has posted a tantalising teaser of Loghain's Joining on YouTube.

And let's not forget The Dragon Age Friendly Toolset Initiative group is discussing how to give the Dragon Age Toolset forums a long overdue spring clean. It's your toolset and your forum so why not pop by and have your say?

And Finally ...

Although the BSN project hasn't been updated in a while, we were pleasantly surprised to find that LukaCrosszeria (assisted by none other than Ser Gilmore) is still auditioning voice talent for his Sanguine Sunrise module. Roles are going fast so if you fancy a part you better let him know.

Thanks for all of your hard work with this Sunjammer. It's great to hear about other projects I didn't even know existed, since I rarely have time to spend as much time on this site as I used to! This is definitely a good way to get the word out.

I'm glad you are finding it useful. I'm hoping it achieves 3 things: a) lets the modding community see all the stuff that is going on and in doing so B) encourages people to either start, continue or restart their own project or c) encourages those people without projects to get in touch with active projects and help out.

Currently there is a fair bit of donkey work (or should that be monkey work) involved in finding the news but I'm adding searches to the project's Newsfeeds thread which hopefully will speed things up. Also I'm hoping that in time people might contribute headlines for their own or their friends' achievements.

Well, that is true, with all those projects its hard to know which ones are active and which ones are abadoned. A shame all the groups seem to be complete, it would be nice to help in some of them, ah well, thanks for the hard work Sunjammer.

Unfortunately this is the perception that many individuals have about the groups (that they are complete) and I don't think it is accurate. Similarly I suspect most groups have a perception that individual are busy on their own projects and aren't interested in working in a team or on someone else's project and again I don't think that is accurate. Even if it is, one of the things we were discussing when we were brainstorming Issue 2 was some sort of talent swap idea where teams or individuals might offer to make a level or a custom model in return for some scripting or a cutscene.

I would say there would be few groups that would knock back an offer of help from someone both willing to contribute and able to do so in a meaningful manner.

This isn't really the place to discuss specifics roles. In any event, it is better to get in touch with the team directly. Check out the site and when you are ready let Cuv know (you can PM him via the BG2R forums).

And this doesn't simply apply in this instance: if anyone sees a project featured in the Digest that insterests them they best thing to do is simply get in touch with the author/the team and let them know what you can do for them.

Headlines for 7 March 2012

Risking accusations of blasphemy Mooglator mixes the two of City of Athkatla's main passions, temples and taverns, in this week's BGR Blog. Custom art abounds and rumour are rife that there is a possible special feature on rugs in the not to distant future! In the meantime feast your eyes on the spectacular, if somewhat rug free, Temple of Helm:

Challseus started March as he ended February: continuing his assault on the Dragon Age: Origin mechanics in the hope that his war of attrition will beat the engine into submissions and convince it to accept the Rose of Eternity's custom abilities during the peace talks. By the sounds of it all of those custom conditions, custom behaviours and custom abilities he's been working on will soon be ready to engage the enemy.

Instead of talking about all the good stuff he is cramming into The Shattered War module, AmstradHero is taking a rather different approach this week and highlighting a few of the things he has left out and why he made the, sometimes painful, decision to omit them.

Delving into the latest files on Dragon Age Nexus we find fmorgana has uploaded several new Face And Eye Textures just in time for those wanting a fresh look for spring; and for all you continuity buffs (you know who you are) Edhriano makes it possible to meet the Hawke Family in Lothering!

And finally...

If you want to have your say on how to give the Dragon Age Toolset forums a long overdue spring clean head on over to the The Dragon Age Friendly Toolset Initiative group to discuss culling those out-of-date stickies and replacing them with some shiny new ones!

Headlines for 14 March 2012

Delving into the latest files on Dragon Age Nexus we find AmbraAlhambra is offering to give your female warden and some of your companions a fresh new look with her DAO HF Presets and DAO Companion Updates and Redesigns mods. As an example here is something for all you Alistair fans ...

Additionally Nexus member LemmingoftheGDA has uploaded his MakersMemoryDAO and Cailan Set Upgrade DAO for those of you wishing to take their gear up a gear!

Challseus is hoping there's more than light at the end of the tunnel in his most recent journal post about the Rose of Eternity project. For starters the rest of the player's party would be nice! Perhaps an accommodating 3D artist could help him out of his current predicament?

You can get a sneak peak at the new Pints and Quarts Tavern project courtesy of its author: Sonmeister has uploaded a number of atmospheric work-in-progress images. Hopefully the Tavern is warmer than the weather!

Ever the artist, Mooglator offers us the colour purple to light our way through one of the more sinister crypts beneath City of Athkatla in this week's BGR Blog. But be careful not to get ensnared by the talk of traps ...

Did you know ... ?

The Dragon Age Toolset Wiki was created by BioWare on the 6th May 2009. Since then 1,484 articles have been created; 2,830 files have been uploaded; 17,367 edits have been performed; 136,053 users have been registered; and there have been a total of 5,081,397 page views. The three most visited pages are almost as popular as the Weekly Digest accounting for nearly 1 million views!

And for anyone who thinks that this is only the beginning there is even a Dragon Age Toolset Wiki Editors group dedicated to organising, expanding and improving the wiki.

Headlines for 21 March 2012

If it wasn't for the people helping him Challseus may, like the unfortunate individual in the screenshot, have lost his head working his Rose of Eternity project. In his recent journal posts he talks about overcoming last weeks pathfinding issues and the joys of cleaning up VO.

Mooglator regales you with some random ****** bits from in and around the City of Athkatla in this weeks BGR Blog post. Some of his words may be music to your ears ...

With more twists and turns that a twisty-turny thing, AmstradHero discusses the techniques he is using to ensure his story has the potential to not only change the non-player characters, but any player brave enough to tackle The Shattered War as well.

Zeiaxar is embarking on a new project, Torn Asunder, which precedes the events of Dragon Age: Origins. The Player must lead a unit of Orlesians, unaided, in a manhunt across Ferelden. If this sounds like your thing why not lend a hand to make it?

A Grenadier Specialization is something every rogue with a strong throwing arm has been waiting for. And now, thanks to Prevch, they can have one!

Delving into the latest files on Dragon Age Nexus we find LemmingoftheGDA has been avoiding cliffs long enough to uploaded his Ultra Arcane Warrior DAO and DAA and More Encounters DA Awakenings mods; veetoks has uploaded his Fixes for Awakening Runes Fixes - Rune Slots mod; and MutantOctopus has uploaded his Alistair Face Morph mod.

And Finally ...

This may be technically ultra vires for the Weekly Digest as it has been announced in the forums, however this has been such a labour of love and such a battle against the toolset that it would be remiss of us not to mention that the fully, yes FULLY, voiced version of Ser Gilmore and Dog in Awakening has been released by the, dare we say, doggedly determined DLAN_Immortality.

Congratulations and good luck with whatever you and Theo decide to do next.
