So I just want to make couple of things absolutely clear:
This is just a gameplay/technical feedback, porrly written dialogue and story intro are not covered.
I am a PC gamer and this feedback deals with a lot of consolification issues, that are unacceptable for a company such as BioWare. I will note them with "[cons]", this means not an issue on a console.
Weapons
  • Sounds whimpy. I see what you were trying to do. Add more bass, the sound doesn't need to undergo many changes.
  • Bullet collision. In Mass Effect 2 I remember the sheer joy of headshooting and seeing that red spash of blood in the air and that insanely satisfying "Shhruck!!". Where is this? And the head exploding is awesome, but it should only explode from a very heavy sniper rifle or a shotgun. Regular weapons should have the same headshot as in Mass Effect 2.
  • Weren't you supposed to add customization? I played through the demo 3 times and didn't find a way to install, say, that extended barrel for pistol that I found.
Melle

  • Very hard on PC. Takes load of time and is very hard to aim because of controls and FOV/camera position.
  • Basically it feels unnecessary because it is very weak and slow relative to the amount of troube you have to go through to get it right. Easier to shoot man with gun. make melle faster and more responsive please.
  • For Vanguard mellee works well because of it's large radius. So on other classes it should be much faster to compensate for small radius and weak damage. This is heavy melle I am talking about, by the way.
UI and camera[cons]
  • Unacceptably close distance to Shephard's back. It covers 50% of the screen. This makes aiming, running, rolling, melleing, shooting, ANYTHING a giant pain in the arse.
  • Still no shortcuts for weapon switching?? I though you would have nailed it by now. Oh, yes, EA tells you to work for consoles. Well at least PC has easy patching. Kinect support is good. But regardless of how much the profit differs, we are honset customers who buy and want to enjoy a product. Please be considerate of PC gamers too.
Graphics
  • Awful, digusting, low-res, flithy, pixelated textures! Yickes![cons]
Sound

[*]I have said it in your official thread for demo feedback but it is useless now as people aren't really posting any feedback, but the sound levels are unbalanced. That dynamic sound option, it is supposed to create a cinematic effect, yeah? Tweak it so it actually does, ok? Right now it just mutes some sounds, lowers others. The game has many sounds so it is impossible for me to nail down, but it simply doesn't... urghh... sound right.
[*]Weapons sounds mentioned.

Animation
  • That is just genuinely bad. If shepahrd's animation is sort of covered better (mainly due to camer placement, but maybe also because it's the same as in ME2?), then NPCs are just UGLY. Anderson looked like a clown. The leg movement is not synced with movement of the character and the backs do not lean forward for NPCs. The hand flapping is just retarded. That is really, how clowns ru in the circus. Not professional soldiers.
  • Lyp sync is severly off. Especially in the beginning of the demo.
  • Facial animation is bad, VERY bad. I am playing ME2 now and getting my save file ready and, thus the worse the experience felt. I hope this just a demo thing. Shephards face barely moved, I am not even talking about other characters. The main issue with this is scale. Multipy the scale by some bigger factor to make smiles wider, mouths open more, facial muscles stretch more. The only properly animated face I saw int he demo was that of the female general who (pathetcally) asked "Then... how do we stop them?". Despite the whole scene feeling like kindergarden perfomance, her face, interms of speech and emotion, was animated fairly well. I do not need L.A. Noire level, but at least at the level of RAGE, you could have done it.
Controls[cons]
  • Again we have the space issue. If you don't get the pun, I am talking about the spacebar. yeah, the game is about space travelling, but it doesn't mean that spacebar should be the ultimate button. Please, there was so much complaint about this. I mean surely you could listen to at least some of the most basic requests from PC gamers. Now with addition of rolling I am forces to stop using cover or dodging because combined with the FOV/camera being 50cm from Shephards' back the "space it all" mechanics just confuses me and makes the gameplay very cluncky and unejoyable.
  • Shortcuts for weapons in the keyboard hav been mentioned.
  • Shortcuts for character menu/inventory/whatever also must be present.
  • Please make the cover switch initiate on "hold". If I want to roll out of cover but not enter one nearby I can't do it, pressing spacebar, obviously gets me to the nearby cover instead of just leaving the old one and rolling.
Oh and one more childish gripe: why do BF3 users get access to MP demo, while users that ahve both ME1, ME2 and all DLC for the them as well having pre-ordered ME3 and ME2 don't get MP early access? bah, whatever, it's not like you can actually do anything about it, I have to file this EA instead.

That is it. Please lock the thread after your team has read it, I don't want it to turn into a console war or any other not constructive discussion.

Despite all issues, I am still quite hyped for the game and not cancelling the pre-order. Have to be, this my biggest love I am talking about, in all my 12 years of gaming I haven't playing anything better than Mass Effct 1 and 2 I am just very worried now. I hope Mass Effect 3 will not be a disappointment, it would kill me if it would.

Sorry, for the messy post, there is no preview on this forum and the form is pretty damn hard to control. Why not just have it in the bb code? And the visual changes would then apply when the thread has been posted.
Anyway, I seemed to fix the appearance now. I hope so anyway.

A question rises in my head though. Is this the SAME build as you were showing in August 2011 on Gamescom? If it is it could explain the alpha-ish quality of textures and other technical issues. But I find it hard to believe that you really did not have time to create a proper demo in all these months.

Fully agree with OP and also want to note the following:
  • Skill and weapons panels became smaller than in ME1 and ME2, it maybe good, but now they are too small.
  • Same with fonts - they are very small comparing to ME2 and it's less comfortable to read subtitles

As far as the demo is concerend for the xbox, I completely agree with everything you've said. Fingers are still crossed for a resolution to some of these issues (mainly the animations) when I get my copy of the game and the day 1 mandatory patch...
