I'm fine with any age as long as:
1) You don't scream/make noises into the mic
2) You contribute diligently to the team
3) (optional) You can pick up the slack if I need to drop out for a second (I have 4 cats, at any given moment, ONE of them might be puking...)

I'm 23 and personally can't stand it when anyon under 18 comes online. Generally, the maturity level is very low and well, the game is for adults.

I guess you fit the ESRB rating, but I really hope no one younger then you is playing, otherwise, simply put, their parents are pretty slack...

ESRB ratings mean nothing. Parents know whether or not their children are mature enough to play the games, not some company who has never seen said child, let alone given them a full psychiatric assesment.

My parents have always let me play games that I was supposedly far too young for (I played Deus Ex when I was nine), and I turned out fine. Because amazingly young kids actually can understand the differnece between games and real life.

When I read the thread title I assumed you meant even younger than 17. If you're old enough to buy an M rated game without adult permission I've got no issues with you. That said maturity =/= age and there's degenerates in all age groups. The younger ones tend to be most pervasive in online gaming though, and when I say "younger" I'm talking about the middle school aged ones who typically really shouldn't be playing most of the games they're found on.

The fact that you wrote this post in an articulate, well thought out manner is a good sign that you're not the ever-so-present annoying, immature teen, so I think as long as you keep that up, I think you'll be fine, kid. :P With age does come maturity for the most part, but I've seen 40 year olds that act like children and teenagers that act more grown up then full adults. So, don't sell yourself short. I'd say everyone is welcome until you start acting up. Enjoy the forums, kid. :P

I'm 21, and I played with a 14-year-old and a 30-something today. The people I roll with don't really care how old you are or how good you are at the game, so long as everybody keeps it friendly and has fun--you should hang out with us! :)

Yup. I'm surprised to hear people talk as if that's surprising. I played my first M-Rated game when I was about 8 years old.

Unfortunately for me, the RPG audience is almost strictly older people, leaving a bunch of lack of interest between us.

I find that hard to believe :P You've got your Pokemon's, Your Earthbounds... I mean, if we're talking Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment, etc., it's going to lean towards an older demographic. But I wouldn't say it's strictly older audiences. It'd be fair to assume many of the fans and developers here started their love of Role-Playing games at an early age.

Back on Topic, I'm 27, so not that young anymore. They're out there bud, you just need to look in the right places.

lol I can imagine how it looks like with the younger gamers ...

And when 12-13 years old dudes, play mature games, I don't know what to say.

Ninja speaks the truth!

It's entirealy based upon the individual. Stereotypes may hold true sometimes, but don't confine yourself or others to them.

That means assuming that people will place you into the screaming little kid group, also. First impressions go a long way when you're just a disembodied voice coming through my headset. I promise to be nice if you do. D:

Granted you are completely justified when someone pisses you off, but blame THEM and not every person in "that group."

Also, Adventure Time is awesome. >_>

I'm 5 and 3 quarters years with my 6th birthday just a week before me3. I can't stand 90% of xboxers so I spend most of my time in party chat with friends or just by myself so I don't have to have my ears blown by those high octaves.

I'm 20 but I generally don't care about the age or voice pitch of younger gamers as long as they act mature. Just got out of a match on silver where a kid just shot at teammates the whole match while trash talking.

And to the person who's name escapes me who said people 12-18 don't like RPGs, I don't know what your talking about because I was around that age not too long ago and I loved RPGs. I also hate call of duty.

I am 24 yet don't use a mic or anything since I can't find it. On the shopping list but that is besides the point. I have no problem with the other persons age as long as they don't do something stupid like stand around singing dancing in the rain or wasting a missle on anything but a mech.

Sagelord2003 - GT

Thankfully I have had met a few small groups that we have been able to beat a few total missions. 11 waves are a pain but thankfully can be done.

Hey, i'm 15, and I wasn't actually going to post in this thread until I saw the posters mentioning that people my age don't like RPG's, and are all immature. Point One: RPG's have been my most favourite genre since I played Baldur's Gate 2 when I was 8, and to be honest I don't really like shooters, I occasionally play them to get rid of my rage that I gain every now and then, but other than that, I don't like shooters. I think the main reason I do like RPG's is because of the story and actual mechanics, the way your character evolves the more you play gives me a good feeling, don't know why mind. Point Two: Fair enough, some people in my age group are immature, some very much so, but I hate how some people categorise people in my age group all together, age does not equal maturity, I don't even know how people who think this can consider themselves mature.

To be honest I can play with anyone as long as they pull their own weight and doesn't get aggresive or insulting. Anyhow, I have a PS3, and my PSN is crepe100, so if anyone wants to play Mass Effect 3.

My microphone won't even work in this game for some reason. Tab nor B works to activate it.

You'll likely get less trash talk in ME3 multiplayer because it's co-op rather than player against player.... the worst I've heard so far on ME3 is someone being snidey in the lobby because you're waiting for one last player to ready up.

It's not so much the age as the content of the discussion.
For the most part, I like game chatter focused on (duh) the game. A few jokes etc. are OK between rounds or in the early waves since those are usually rather stress-free.
It one of the few problems I had with Halo. 11-14 year old kids with a mic are just a nuisance... either making stupid, non-stop, repetitive jokes, or screaming "Oh! Did you see what i just did! I owned that guy!" while our team is still losing by 10 kills.
