I'm a bit concerned by how the weapon progression is presented to the player. Take a look at these two screencaps:

It's absurdly difficult to see any change in the weapon stat bars. Now this could be due to the fact that the early upgrades are smaller increments or something that was fixed in a later, but this is pretty much the same problem ME1 had with guns, except worse.
Another problem is that the weight for guns seems to be relative to other guns in its class, which makes it hard to figure out whether or not certain combinations of guns will lead to hitting the weight limit. In fact, it seems like all the stats are relative to the guns in its class and not compared against all the other guns, as seen here:

So the Tempest put out as much damage as the Revenant? Or is the UI messed up?

Hmmm, what does that Change View button do? Take you back to the weapon position on armour view or give you hard numbers?
#7
Posté 16 février 2012 - 04:43
It lifts the gun off of the table.

Without numbers its hard to tell but perhaps smgs and assault rifles are on different scales. So the tempest doesnt actually do more damage. In ME2 the rev had terrible damage on a per bullet basis. Its charm was that it was pretty stable and had a huge clip so you could lay down a blanket of fire. I suspect that is what this is a reflectiion of

too many changes in this game. Honestly they seriously have to give as numbers.

Hard sexy numbers would be welcome.

Jesus, Bioware took numbers out because they didn't think that numbered stats were necessary for a good RPG experience. Casey Hudson commented on this during interviews a few years back; the impression I got was that he regarded "stats" as a dirty word. A lot of people on this forum agreed with that sentiment. Now, the result.
I really hate to see a developer like Bioware avoid good UI design because they want to avoid the gaming stigma that is associated with having numbered stats in a shooter (or something like that; I didn't really understand what people had against them).
I hope Bioware patches in numbered stats after release. It would be easier to read than eyeballing stat bars and "guessing" at needlessly-hidden values.

also from various tests the bars are relative to their specific weapon classes. So you cant compare a tempest with the revenant

And that's completly stupid because the Tempest and the Revenant ARE competing against eachother for weapon slot thanks to the weigth limit.

A toggle to show the numbers would be greatly appreciated yes I can't tell the difference in the bars!
#19
Posté 16 février 2012 - 12:56
Yeah, the differences in the bars are really too tiny to judge without actual numbers. At first I wasn't even sure there was ANY difference when I looked at the screens separately, had to blend them over each other to see

yes one of the dev mentioned than upgraded weapon weigth less in an other thread, but I must say I was expecting a bit more of a difference, nice work on the gif though.

What pack did you get that from? Lucky Veteran? *farms credits , hoping for Widow or Vindicator*kregano wrote...

OT: Low damage bar on the Revenant is on a hard per-bullet scale, and isn't neccesarily scaled to the Tempest.
Because of its high RoF, the Revenant still does tons of damage, I'd imagine.

The gun bar stats are probably like in Modern Warfare games.
Completely off in early builds, betas, etc, and when it comes down to the final game, more accurate, but still incorrect when comparing guns.

seriously if we had numbers all this will be soo much better. It would allow us to compare guns across different classes etc

Anyway, I'm okay with the bars, but I want actually to be able to discern progress in stats easily, not have to make a gif just to see that the stats changed by a sliver. I wouldn't mind weight being represented by a hard number, especially since it's so crucial to power using classes and it's too easy to go over the limit with the current system.
