Just got Mass Effect for the PC. On my first playthrough, and I just got to the Citadel after the Eden Prime mission. I am walking in the Presidium toward the Citidel Tower, and when I look at the Mass Relay monument, the game crashes, and I get a window:

May try a reinstall and repatch to 1.02.
Otherwise give us your hardware and software specs so we have a starting place to begin fixing your issue.

Y'know I had this same problem so on a hunch I remembered that I had used someone's modified LOD settings from ME1 tweak guides. I restored them to the original LOD settings (since I made a backup of my bioengine.ini file) and then tested it at the same point of that crash in the Citadel and the cyclical crash problem is gone.
Hope that helps you folks

machine is a i7 975x @4GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 580, Win 7 x64
the issue is LOD settings. I used that tweak guide that everyone else seems to use, and he has what he calls the maximum LOD settings. I used those. They work for just about everything else, except for that. There is one line that I had to scale back, and left the rest at max, and now it works.

It's this line:
TEXTUREGROUP_Environment_1024=(MinLODSize=4096,MaxLODSize=4096,LODBias=-1)
Scale back the MinLODSize value to 2048:
TEXTUREGROUP_Environment_1024=(MinLODSize=2048,MaxLODSize=4096,LODBias=-1)
And it should work now. If it doesn't work, try a lower value for either the Min or Max value, whatever works for you.

The majority of the time that this error comes up will be with Intel's various tinker toy video solutions, and the cure that has been offered won't work for any but the very newest and best of such, and even then, since it will usually be in a Laptop, Notebook, Tablet, or All in One, the system cooling will be inadequate, and will lead to the early failure of one or more various parts that aren't at all easily replaced. Intel Smoke & Mirrors isn't an adequate replacement for the real thing. The game requirements offer no support for hardware of such low quality, and rightly so.wilsonna wrote...
