I was really dissapointed to hear that gamestop wasn't going to have a midnight release for DA:O; how can we punish them for forsaking us?

My gamestop isn't doing it either, i think I may call and see if i just pick it up at the end of the day on monday, I doubt there would be a punishment for breaking a street date 3 hours early on. You would think a game with as big a following as DA:O would deserve a midnight release. Sigh

I had asked about this myself and was told that since they are having alot of releases within the next few weeks they didn't want to hold midnight releases for one game or two and not be able to for others. I'm pretty tight with the guys at my local shop so I'm sure they were being honest.

i thought about this myself. i wonder if gamestop emplyees would be OK with someone asking... AHEM* (begging) them to sell one at 850pm tomorrow night... damn i wish they were doing a midnight release for this, im VERY disappointed.

because right now i would love to be telling myself, "dude," and yes i always refer to myself as 'dude', because i find myself to be an all around swell guy... "dude, DAO will be in your hands TOMORROW..."

but now i have to tell myself, "dude, your a loser piece of SH*T, you have no life, and you wont have one for another 48 hours, what do you say for yourself?!?!?!"

and then i reply, as well, "dude, your being harsh there brotucky, let the mellow fellow lead the way!!!"

and then, i get pissed at hearing myself talk like a hippy and proceed to beat the living sh*tstain out of myself...

as i say "dude, NOOOOOOO, DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDEEEEEEEEEEEEE///////////........"

gurgle, blarf...

So none are doing it? I thought someone at the gamestop by me said they would be. It could have changed but I hope not.

WTF, are they that common in the US? DA is a new game, so it should be weird to expect a midnight release for it. I usually expect that sort of thing for Halo 3 or the next WoW expansion for example.

It must just be your local Gamestop, mine is doing midnight release (I even verified this with the manager).

No midnight here. I bet if they named the game Madden: 2009 Dragon Helmet Edition there would be a Gamestop midnight release... *roll eyes*

I don't mind. I will just go pick it up at 10AM on Tuesday AM

(Sometimes being a stay at home dad has REAL advantages :-)

I don'tknow about Gamestop, but I am going to play the Devil's advocate and say in their defense, they may have thought that DA:O is not going to get millions of sales in two weeks to justify a midnight opening. Only games like MW2, L4D2 or Assassin's Creed 2 deserve a midnight opening.

Yeah I am disappointed with GameStop because they had a midnight release for Fable 2 and while that game was okay, it did not live up to the hype. It is frustrating to know that I could go to Wal-Mart or another local shopping center that are open 24 hours/day and buy the game then...but I would miss out on getting the CE that I pre-ordered back in July.

To pay them back we could call and ask for battletoads.

Heh yeah and Fable 2 should not have had one seeing as I went to the midnight release for it by me and there were literally three people there.

Both the local gamespots in my area (Iowa) are doing midnight releases. I'm tempted to go in and pick it up even though I have to work the next morning...

I maybe wrong, but doesn't the potential sales determine if a game deserves a midnight launch. Even though the game is recieving hype around here, doesn't mean it is with the so called mainstream audience. But I think DA:O is going to be a sleeper hit.

If a store has a ton of reserves on something or if about 4 to 5 popular games are coming out they have the option to do one. Unfortunately if they don't they don't get allocated the payroll hours to do one. I'm pretty jealous of those that have a store in their area doing a midnight release :)

I used to work at a Gamestop, and for the most part it is up to the store manager. There are some that are mandated by the head company. Games like Madden, Halo 3, and MW2 that have huge releases. And as stated above if there are a bunch of AAA titles coming out they usually only do a couple midnight releases in a month if any. You also have to think about the fact that there are usual 2-3 people at the store for these and they usual are all there for about 2 hrs a piece so that comes to 6+ hrs of labor extra a week for each midnight release, that can add up and seeing as how having a midnight release doesn't usually generate extra sales, since most people who go to those reserved it already, it is not always cost effective for the store. It really is just a very nice gesture to their customers not an entitlement.

Sorry for the long winded post

No I'm not mad, Honestly couldn't care less if they did a midnight release. Is a few more hours really going to kill people? It's just a game, normal work week and life week for me, may play a few hours by the end of the week. Don't understand how some of you get so into a games release, Guess some of us will never know.

I'd like a midnight release simply so I can rock up there and grab it then and there upon release, rather than be waiting until work ends on release day and pick it up on the way home...
