I have these weird greenish squares floating around everywhere. I assume it has something to do with shadows, but I'm not sure. Anyone else ?

You'll notice the original poster, who posted more than a year ago, didn't get much help.  He didn't post his specs.  If you can post yours, we can try to troubleshoot.  I also encourage you to search the site.

Thanks,

RI

It looks its unable to render the sprites and fog in soldiers peak so it just replaces them with these flloating squares of different colors

Thanks for posting the specs. That makes it a lot easier. You've got a solid system CPU-wise. I am not very familiar with ATI cards... first thing I would suggest is to make sure your ATI driver is up to date... there was a new release a few weeks ago, I think.

EDIT:  If you're having problems with the fog, then may I also ask, have you installed any 3rd party mods?  Sometimes they can do funky things with texture layers.

Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (please use the numbers, and dates, *not* the word "latest")

However, it almost certainly is totally unlikely that we will actually get to the bottom of things, as long as the PC in question is so very poorly optimized, what with in excess of FIVE TIMES  as much garbage being loaded when Windows starts as there should be on a games-playing computer.

I assumed he took his DirectX reading while the game was running.  If that's not the case, then you make a great point.  But even if it was, there's still a lot of other stuff in memory.  Indeed, I am curious as to the small amount (722MB) left for the page file.

Anderol-- how much free space do you have on your main hard drive (the one with Windows installed on it)?

Lol i was in fact runnin two clients of Eve Online and the DAO client at the same time while waiting for help :P so yeah, Raen is right. I formated my computer 2 weeks ago so its squeaky clean, and i have 60 gb of free space on windows drive

Edit: It has the Gfx Driver Version: 8.791.0.0 and lates bios

So far ive had no issues with games, recently played trough deadspace 2 without a single problem.

I think the latest Catalyst drivers for your card are something like 11.1 released on 1.26.2011. I am an Nvidia guy, so that's the extent of my knowledge. ;)

Of course, if you're running other programs in the background while doing the Soldier's Peak mission, that could be putting stress on the system. DA:O is a very CPU heavy game, so you may find it is more sensitive to other factors than other, even newer games.

Newest drivers solved the problem, thanks for your help, windows 7 actually downloaded the default drivers or something for my card when i started up the computer the first time. Thought they were the newest. Again thanks to everyone.

Microsoft is often six months to a year out of date.
