Despised the forced buddy buddy stuff with vega. Desperately hoping there's some conversation cjoices to be more in his face in the intro.

Yeah, it's called beating him up in the cargo hold as seen in previous trailers.

Some people really are jumping on this and making themselves look really stupid, but then again it's BSN so no surprises there

Whine some more, why don't you. God forbid something minor happen off screen.

You consider a 6 month gap minor? Okay.

Somewhat, depends.  If the six months is Shepard sitting in a Brig, followed by House Arrest in Naval Officer Quarters, and we can guess <Insert went bad> and <squad wanders off>, then I see the next six months as that bridge time the IP wanders off whenever someone writes a mediocre to poor novel.  So far, nothing important besides a trial whose outcome is very clear happened.  I think that's pretty minor, but then I already analyzed that situation.

Typically, it's quality story telling when a story contains some kind of an explanation for the events that happened since the last time you were present.

Similarly, what happens for those of us that didn't buy, nor have any interest in buying Arrival? Do we get an explanation of why Shepard is in the situation he's in?

Wow talk about the biodrones in this thread. This is actually a legitimate complaint. ME: Conviction is a free comic and basically explains how Vega got there. The rest will probably be explained in the Nomandy

Allow me to provide a bit of contrast.

Disclaimer: even if you hate Squeenix and Final Fantasy, this is an issue of story presentation structure, not personal preference on style.

I picked up the special edition of FFXIII-2 from Best Buy. A nice little intro book came along with that SE. This book is a mini narrative about what happens right after the end of FFXIII. It was a pleasant and interesting addition.

However, the game itself also contains an introductory primer that goes over the whole story of FFXIII. There is also lots of dialog that goes over the events that happened after FFXIII before FFXIII-2 starts. Furthermore, the opening cutscene of the game thoroughly explains the arrival of the new main character in the game.

The difference here is that you don't need to get any supplemental material to learn about any important events that happen between games.

Vega is one of a number of things that seem to being forced in the ME3 demo. Previous games let you establish your relationships, your Shep's attitudes etc. This time round they seem to have decided to define Shephard which makes zero sense as there are many people importing their own Shephards based on 2 games of experience. I'm going to wait to see how the actual game plays out but the signs are not promising if the intro demo is accurate.

He has 4 lines in the entire demo. Why is everyone so upset?

I'm outraged that Shepard knew the drug dealer from his Earthborn ME1 quest. How come they just skipped all the getting to know him stuff and just automatically made me know him?

What if my Shepard didn't even like drugs.

What if he liked trains?!

It's the BSN. That should be all the explanation you need.

Dude play the game FFS. It'll explain trust me. Anyway he was stationed to guard Shepard that was his role and that's how he knows Shepard, the reason he salutes Shep is because Sheps a hero. Capiche?

Without the games there is no franchise.  People should be able to pick up just the games and understand the story.

Because i think i should have the ability not to be forced to pre existing buddy buddy relationship with my prison guard that  i know nothing about. Add him during the combat sequence like happened with Jacob in ME2 and allow me to interact with him and come to my own judgement regarding the character.

And in MGS2 i was forced to play as a androgynous man-boy but it didn't detract from how awesome of a game it was.

I have the feeling Vegas will be the new Kaidan. Simply boring and mousy. You have a story for every other crew member how you met him/her but not for Kaidan and Vegas. And be honest, that was the reason why Kaidan was kinda boring to me.
It was okay how Kaidan was introduced in the first game because Shepard had to know some people before the game actually started. But why does something like this happen again in the last part of the series? Bioware did it well with Jacob and Miranda in the beginning of ME2 but this looks kinda lazy to me.

Of course, it's not a gamebreaker and nobody will cancel his preorder because of this, but like i said before: Vegas looks boring to me already. Maybe it's because I don't like his appearance in the demo which was like "Hey Bro, I am your cool new soldier buddy who eats anabolica drugs for breakfast. You don't know anyhting about me but I will follow you from now on."

And who says they can't?

You played the first 10 minutes of the intro, sorry Vegas didn't spill his lifes story and cry on your shoulder.

All you know is that Vegas respects Shepard, and Shepard knows him by name, how is this different from Anderson and Joker in ME1? Did Joker tell you everything about him before Eden Prime?

So there's bits and pieces missing between ME2 and ME3, thats what happens in sequels. The dots will be connected later.

You guys are implying we're not going to be about to talk the **** out of Vega on board.

You should be sorry! It's clearly your fault.

It's different because ME1 = Hello, all new cast characters and perviously unexplored story and world, ME3 = Hello world and characters I've been exploring for two gam.... wait, who the hell is that guy?!

Oh, so Miranda and Jacob shouldn't have been in ME2?

No, I get it. Only pre established characters are allowed in sequels, especially in the start. If you don't know everything about someone within 5 minutes of the game starting, franchise ruined.

These days when I buy £40 games from my local store I only give them £30 and when they ask for the rest I tell them they need to sign up to my awesome spyware-laden website and buy a copy of my bank statement for the small fee of £3 in order to receive the last of the cash.

If my cash is pre-owned they need to give me two extra party members in the game or they don't get the last £10 at all. Pristine "Collector's Coins" cost two copies of the game instead of one.

It's all legit, before I talk to them at the counter I ask them to accept my perfectly fair terms of custom and if they decline I leave and they get no sale. I didn't think I was the only one doing that now...
