No, seriously, why is Earth such a marketing point?

An entire galaxy's fight for survival is a much more impressive premise than a fight for Earth.

This isn't about worrying if the story will focus on the galaxy, we know it will.

I just don't get why this is the marketing strategy. Why wouldn't you market the grandest, most powerful concept that you can?

Maybe they're hoping it will build more attachment. It's where we keep our stuff.

You like your stuff, don't you?

I'm a minimalist. I actually abhor my stuff. Right now I'm in the middle of throwing all of my stuff over the balcony. If I had the option I'd throw it all into deep space instead but unfortunately evolution's marketing gimmick this continuum is very Earth-centric.

We are humans, we play as a human and are most familiar with Earth as our home.

I don't see why its so hard for some people to understand. It might strike such a vibrant chord in you, but for many it does.

I understand that, but the reason its upsetting is that the first 2 games were about combating this threat to all organic life.  Not just humans.  If they had set it up to be a human only threat from the beginning this wouldn't be an issue.

Then why didn't they allow us to play on earth for a while on previous games?

We might be humans but we know crap about how earth's fairing in the ME world.

I don't know, maybe because we live here! Yes humanity has moved on to colonise other planets but you never forget where you came from!!

Imagine if the reapers came now, wouldn't you fight for Earth?

Earth's codex entry sums things up pretty well, really. That's... a lot more than most games will give us about places we don't visit.

I'm sure the game will have a very large focus on what's going on outside of Earth, but for marketing purposes? Earth sells.

Because "Save the Galaxy" or "Take the Galaxy Back" doesn't really sound as cool.

Because they wanted to save actual Earth debut for an important moment, the invasion of Earth is as good as any to start with.

Earth is where most of the humans are located I assume. The Collectors were doing some initial research into assimilating them, but so far humans are the only ones that have managed to kill Reapers so far. It makes sense they would be a priority to wipe out.

Yes, they're really going to bring in new players by telling them "Let's reclaim Rannoch and save Palaven and Thessia, all places that you've never heard of!" That'll work well.

Why does the game even need new players? Catering to a wider audience always always tends to water down what the previous games do best. This is for any games not just mass effect.

Which two games did you play again? Because ME1 was about chasing a guy who hated Humans and was attacking Human colonies, and ME2 was about chasing guys who were yandere for Humans and were kidnapping Human colonies.

The Reapers have always been 'not just Humans', but Humans have always been the focus of concern. Neither of those elements is changed in ME3.

The premise is that it's humanities home world, it supposed to create a connection, which for me it does.

ME1 was trying to hunt down and stop the guy looking to bring back godlike machines wiping out ALL sentient life in the galaxy.

I want to say right now, if I hadn't known the story of Mass Effect, like, if I were brand new.. the slogan "Take Earth back" would bore the hell out of me. I'd assume it to be another ****ty war game where we fight some big boss and eventually win.

Now "Save the galaxy", or something on that scale, I would see as more worthy.
