No, seriously, why is Earth such a marketing point?

You realise that doesn't make sense right? How are we gonna get emotionally atached to earth if we've never been in it, in-game.
The real reason here is, Bioware is lazy.
I doubt they had plans for an Earth attack at the start of the trilogy.
What the hell. You live on Earth right now, anything that's different about it is summed up in its codex entry, any value or significance it should have to you should come from real life. They want the player to feel the emotion, not Shepard.
Maybe you don't appreciate the Earth right now and that's why it just doesn't translate to you.
How could someone not appreciate Earth? It's sort of important. In that, if it suddenly went away, we'd be, uh, what's the word? Oh yeah, ****ed.

Just tell them "your house is gonna catch fire" and there you have them.
You know slagging on the shooter games is stupid because guess what Mass Effect has and always be a action rpg shooter game . game franchises like The Gears of War games and Call of Duty combined sell a sh*t ton more than the 2 Mass Effect games will ever sale . All sci fi games and movies as well tv shows focus on Earth . get use to the fact ME 3 is a shooter
And you right now might tell me that ME3 is a shooter, and be correct on that, but when I started playing the series with ME1 I was told it was a unique RPG with great emphasis in cinematic story telling and fresh mechanics, not a gears of wars/Call of Duty/Crysis/Battlefield/Whatever clone.
Its main selling points where decisions, and exploration, the motto of the whole marketing campaign of ME1 was "Explore whole galaxies with unique races" not "You can get these guns to blow the brains of others".
And I don't care about COD,it's so generic and shamey you get bored in minutes of playing it.
Mass Effect has to evlove its gun combat simple as that . Its why they had EA DICE come in and help them with the guns

Eiffel tower is just repleaced by Earth in this game... I find it a bit lazy considering we had two games to get attached to something else... but hey it can be interresting if the whole ''let's recruit a ****load of peeps'' is done well AND different from Dragon Age : Origins...

The galaxy is a large place. Hard to visualize. Hard to get feelings for. Earth is small. More familiar. Gives emotional attachment.
Earth is Our home planet it is the center of humanity . I am a little pissed off it took the 3rd game to finally add Earth into the Mass Effect series . hell even in Star Trek they vist Earth a lot . Shepard was right in the demo the fight is here on Earth . Yes the reapers are hitting the other planets but the people on Earth in the ME universe need help from Shepard who is a human .

DICE didn't work on the game. That's urban legend.

There's really not much more too it. They want more people buying ME3. Build your advertising campaign around targeting that market. It's not evil, or sinister, it's just good business sense.

You would be surprised how many take it for granted and would not outright say they appreciate it. But I agree with your post.

I think the only thing that bothered me was when the female krogan asks why shepard is so intent on saving her and he replies "You're earths last hope."
It makes shepard seem very selfish. "Sorry aliens! But earth is far more important than your planets right now!"
Earth is the focus of Mass Effect 3 even Shepard makes that clear in the demo . he or she has no intrest in even speaking with the council its clear Earth is what Shepard wants to save
Yes, but you kind of have to understand the reapers aren't just going to stop with earth.. "Well, that's it guys! We got ourselves our humans to make into a human reaper baby! Lets go home!"
That would be ridiculous. This is one of those times you have to look at the big picture.

A newcomer doesn't care about becoming attached. I've never played DA:O or DA2, and when I hear about it, I don't care because I've never had an interest. Therefore should someone mention any sort of personal things about it, I won't give a ****.
Same applys for newcomers to ME.

All kinds of improvements over already existing aspects/features are welcome!
What I said was that it would be better when they decided to add more shooter features,to also had decided to add more rpg features,so the gameplay variation keeps being balanced, and we don't end up with one aspect of the game stealing the spotlight from the other one.
Different people may have different tastes. Not a specific taste has to be good or bad.
The best would be if the game improved smoothly and proggresively in all of its gameplay features/aspects,so more players can enjoy the game more, and we don't end up with a game being more enjoyable to some players and less to others.

In game, Mass Effect is the story of Commander Shepard and he's human. The story reflects around humans. Commander Shepard being the first human specter in part 1, Cerberus and their human first viewpoint in ME2 and now humanity's fight to stop the reapers in part 3.
Out of game, it is easy for people to associate with earth. Sure, we could have set the story on Tuchanka or Illium or Koozbane or any otehr planet, but as people, we react in a certain way when Earth is in danger.
At least, thats my thoughts.

ME Earth is vastly different from our Earth in appearance and culture, plus we only spend a brief amount of time on it. I would feel more emotion if they attack the Normandy/Citadel again.

I agree with your out-of-game reasoning, it's just simple marketing. But in-game, the fight against the Reapers is bigger than humanity. The entire galaxy is at stake, not just humanity. That's why I found Shepard's "The Citadel?! But the fight's here!" line to be kind of, well, dumb. It works if you're playing a Renegade Shepard whose first priority is his own people, but for a Paragon Shepard who has a better grasp of the big picture, it doesn't make as much sense.Chris Priestly wrote...

I know Thessia will be being invaded at the same time Shepard and company visit the planet and the Turians have fled to their moon. So I don't think we have worry about in game being too human centric. I thought ME 2 felt human centric or maybe it was just TIM and Miranda going on about humanity this and humanity that. Pffft I am more interested in seeing the Krogan rise to glory.

Oh, no, I know that the Reapers will be elsewhere, and not just on Earth. I was referring specifically to Shepard's mindset. Of course he's going to be worried about his own species, but he of all people should realize the threat the Reapers pose to the entire galaxy.KotorEffect3 wrote...
