2 reasons. One in game, one not.

In game, Mass Effect is the story of Commander Shepard and he's human. The story reflects around humans. Commander Shepard being the first human specter in part 1, Cerberus and their human first viewpoint in ME2 and now humanity's fight to stop the reapers in part 3.

Out of game, it is easy for people to associate with earth. Sure, we could have set the story on Tuchanka or Illium or Koozbane or any otehr planet, but as people, we react in a certain way when Earth is in danger.

At least, thats my thoughts.

I disagree. everyone seems hellbent on destroying the planet. what wouldve made more sense is to have had Earth destroyed in the first place due to humanity to hammer in the point that we screwed up and have our new home/planet/colony where everyone is trying to make things right attacked.

Cuz really what would u care more about? crashing a pinto? Or crashing a ferrari?

I just don't get why this is the marketing strategy. Why wouldn't you market the grandest, most powerful concept that you can?

Because not everyone played ME1 and ME2 so they don't care about the greater galaxy like hardcore fans do, but the protection of Earth is something everyone can get behind whether you've heard about the first two games or not.

Makes perfect sense to me.

I think only BSN is hellbent on destroying Earth. Most people I know wouldn't want our world to blow up.

It certainly seems that way doesn't it?

I've seen people here say Earth is gone humans are stupid and we should let humans fail so that we can protect the other council races!:pinched:...... I don't understand these people.

Honestly, do people really think saving the Universe is any more unique/special than saving Earth?

It's a tagline, guys. A marketing slogan. Something to put on posters to sit in GameStop stores. Why does everyone have to get so worked up about something so insignificant to those of us who have known we are going to buy it since we played ME1? Haha and yes I know the answer already is "because this is the BSN".

What would you prefer their tagline be? "Take Earth Back (and other planets like Sur'kesh and Thessia too if you have the time)". That would be awfully wordy for a poster.

Then why didn't they allow us to play on earth for a while on previous games?

We might be humans but we know crap about how earth's fairing in the ME world.

Because they wanted to save actual Earth debut for an important moment, the invasion of Earth is as good as any to start with.

YES THEY HAD IT ALL PLANNED FROM THE START.

People are reading way too much into this, trying to suggest that its to try and attract a "casual crowd", its just a marketing ploy, as many people have said we live on earth, its our home.

I buy ME1 for a promise of a galaxy hopping space opera epic. Now it ends with Earth. Donkeyballs.

BSN complains of bad marketing...turns around and complains about good marketing.

Anyways, it was obvious that it was the reasons Chris said. People just like to pull the rage chain for the giggles.

Aside from the opening in Vancouver and the mission on Mars, isn't London also playable? That seems like a lot of time in the Sol system to me.

Well Mr. Chris...I honestly could care less about Earth to be honest...i care a whole lot more about how EVERYONE comes out of this. I will sacrifice Earth without a second thought if I have to. I never understood "Oh its the homeworld you gotta care!" why? why should I care just because I live here? Broadcasting "SAVE EARTH OMG!" actually turns me off to the entire thing. Because that makes it seem like all the others races don't mean a damn thing as long as Earth is saved. Also the whole "HUMANS ARE SPECIAL OMG!" thing...again used so we can "relate" to it...its another boreing cliche that turns me off to the experience. I admit I'm alone in this...but thats how it works.

May be semantics to you but honestly, how do people always mess this up? COULDN'T care less ... you're saying the opposite of what you mean. Seems so simple.

It may be that it was a human that stopped Sovereign, destroyed the collectors, and destroyed the Alpha Relay, as well as developed quickly using the technology they discovered, so the Reapers see them as the biggest threat. So instead of cutting off the tail, they cut off the head.

Also, because Shepard is human.

It's easy to relate to as well.

I remember in one of the codex entries it stating that anyone entering earth orbit has to do so with kinetic barriers up because of all the debris and trash in orbit.

-Thought it would be funny to see the Reaper's hulls and dented and scuffed up from all the crap they hit on the way down.

This does irritate me, mainly because you have an entire galaxy of possibilities and it's going to revolve around boring old Earth. It might be different if half a dozen sci-fi games hadn't already done the same things (the biggest of which being say, Halo).
