I'd just like to get a discussion going on the weapons, and what people like and dont like. Feel free to include the weapon mods as well. On a side note, it'd definitely be nice if we can help bioware identify what weapons/mods are overpowered and what ones are underpowered (especially ones that SHOULD be upgrades, not downgrades).

My initial thoughts on a few weapons

Snipers: I've only got level 2 Mantis and Viper, but so far I'm not a fan of them simply because the enemies are very erratic and run around like they've just done several lines of cocaine. Its nice when you catch an enemy sleeping in cover (sometimes they seem to just cower in cover like they're too afraid), or if you've got 3 other players playing fairly aggressively taking the attention on themselves allowing you to sit back and pick off targets. The ammo usage to damage ratio seems a bit low for body shots, but headshots definitely are quite devastating. -

*Final thoughts* Personally I think they're a tad underpowered simply because of the change in speed of the enemies, combined with a low ammo count. If they either increased damage or ammo count I'd find them to be much more balanced, especially with how heavy they are.

Assault Rifles:
Here I've only gotten the Avenger and Mattock and scope upgrade. While I actually find the Avenger to be accurate enough at range, its damage isnt enough that I'd take it over an SMG given the weight trade off. The Mattock however is good enough, and actually seems FAR more balanced in ME3 vs ME2, which was overpowered. The damage is average, but the accuracy is good (not as accurate as ME2) making the lower ammo count balanced since each shot hits more often and makes it easier to place headshots. Like ME2, the fire rate "technically" is low, but in reality its as fast as you can pull the trigger (xbox 360), which is pretty fast making it good for CQB situations.

*Final thoughts* I'd love to hear from someone who's gotten the Revenant or other assault rifles, but so far I'm content enough with the balance of them given the weight/power reduction. I think the lower level characters without highly upgraded casting powers benefit the most simply because your powers arent advanced enough to outweigh the damage provided, but at higher levels heavy caster players will probably benefit from SMG/Pistol combos instead.

SMGs: So far I've got the Shuriken, Tempest, and Hornet. I find the Shuriken to be the most accurate of the 3, especially when scoped, the Tempest suffers too much recoil issues to be a long range weapon, and the Hornet despite saying its a long range SMG doesnt seem to display it from my time with it. I like the Hornets damage, but the low ammo count and small clip dont outweigh the massive ammo count and full auto Tempest.

*Final thoughts* I really like the Tempest as a CQB spray weapon, with clip extension and heat sink its 91 bullets per clip, 350 total ammo, and magician-esque reload speed, you're practically able to lay down fire almost continually. As a caster race, I really like using this instead of an assault rifle while using a heavy pistol to handle the long range shooting role.  I'm most disappointed with the Hornet as I was hoping it would compare to the Locust (as I assume thats what its supposed to be), but does NOT have anywhere near the pinpoint accuracy the Locust had in ME2. Good weapons for casters in my opinion.

Shotguns: So far I've only got the base Katana, so I cannot comment much. From what I've seen they're much better in ME3 MP vs ME2 SP, because the enemies are fast and force CQB much more often making them more practical than ME2 in which enemies sat down in cover at range rather than constantly pressing you. I dont think I've seen anyone using the Claymore yet, but I've seen a lot of complaints, and I agree with the notion that it SHOULD be the best shotgun (at least if you're accurate), but it sounds like the reload time hampers the weapon too much to be better than the Scimitar/Katana, especially when the weight is taken into account.

*Final thoughts* Cant say much here without having many myself, but from what I can tell from seeing others using them I think they're much more balanced and better suited for ME3's "up close and personal" enemies, than ME2. Good players seem to be particularly devastating with them while the inaccurate shooters seem weak with them. Even though I almost never use shotguns myself, the fact that they seem much better makes me happy as I like to see balanced weapon choices.

Heavy Pistols: My arsenal only includes the Phalanx and Predator, so I've yet to see the Carnifex in action. Thus far I think they're definitely a casters delight given the accuracy and weight. I dont know about using them exclusively  as the ammo count seems a bit low, but I do LOVE the SMG/Hvy Pistols combo. Scoped I find them to be very accurate and the fact they're semi auto means they can be fired very quickly with little cost to said accuracy.

*Final Thoughts* I wont say they're overpowered, BUT I'd find it hard to NOT include them because they cost so little in terms of weight, and provide a long range accurate weapon. Given the cost of power recharge vs value of an extra weapon I find it an easy decision to carry the Pistol. No matter what primary weapon you choose, a heavy pistol should definitely be highly considered as your secondary weapon.

Mods: I dont have enough of them yet to make much comments here, but I'll post a couple thoughts. SMG Scope - it seems to be an odd combination, BUT with the Shuriken I found placing 3 round burst headshots VERY easy at range, and in CQB situations just Run N' Gun non scoped shooting to be very effective. The Tempest and Hornet didnt seem to benefit as much from the scope, and I found the combo of Extended Mag + Heat Sink to be better when using the SMG's as a CQB bullet hose. The Assault Rifle Scope seemed to be more annoyance than worth because of the 4x being overkill, could just be my opinion... it might allow for the Mattock to be used with extreme precision however, but I felt the Mattock was precise enough without it (I dont have the Revenant - but perhaps it'd somehow make that gun accurate at range? odd combo, but I'd be curious to try it).

Anyway, no one has to post as much as I have, I'd just love to hear from anyone on what they think about certain weapons and weapon mods, so none of us are missing out on special weapon+mod combos that might just be sitting around unused.

I don't know even though im not the best shot I get plenty of head-shots with the sniper rifle and simply having it a one shot kill more then makes up for the low ammo/cocaine movement (plus there are ammo boxes everywhere )

I'll admit with a good team, I think the weaknesses of the sniper rifles can be overcome by knowing the ammo crate locations, and having your squadmates draw "aggro" allowing you to pick off enemies at range. I just didnt like the damage of non-headshots. I suppose once the full game comes out and people find more friends to play with and develop good team synergy the weaknesses of the sniper rifle will probably be easily overcome by the advantages of the 1 shot 1 kill, infact I have to imagine in a top tier 4-squad of great players a sniper will almost be required and could play a vital role in an "overwatch" position for Vanguard CQB'ers.

Anyone with some weapon mods, please post as I'd really like to hear whats out there and what effect you think they have on making that weapon group more powerful.

(and if anyone wants to get really nerdy and post a lot of technical data, PLEASE feel free)
