I dont think theres many matches where I dont get 75+ kills a match with a sniper rifle if I choose to use it. the only time is when im competing against another infiltrator, adept or vanguard for kills. the vanguard is particularly annoying since he kills guys before you can see them, so your viper will be useless too. but your hyperhole is annoying. I also favoured the viper for a while over the mantis but switched to the widow after finding how easily  I could kill enemies behind cover/through shields where a viper may miss some shots or the mantis not penetrate. also body shots kill regular enemies with 'bolt actions types' which is another large factor for getting high kills rather than assist.

for fast firing head-shotting NOTHING beats the carnifex which is better than the viper for all cases except for killing guardians where extreme aim is required. its prob got better killing potential than the widow too for raking up kills, but not quite as good when taking actual threats to your team.

Carnifex is godly, so little ammo though...

In the end I went with the Viper simply because I got sick of the constant refilling.

I disagree on taking out actual threats though. While the Widow is better against Atlas the Carnifex has it beat on Phantoms.

Sure if you are at a distance and get the jump on a Phantom, the Widow is great. But thats not really when Phantoms cause problems. It's when they are in close (maybe beating on a teammate) where you need to drop them quick. Bolt action are useless there.

To those noting the effect of the Widow's weight: to compensate on my Infiltrator, I selected all the ranks that decrease weapon weight in the class specific tree and I also carry no other gun. As a result, recharge is still pretty fast.

Maybe I'm just lucky I got the widow from my 2nd 20k package .. now its level 3 .. can someone tell me if the level increase damage output ?

I got one but haven't got any upgrades for it just plain widow 1.

The widow is great on bronze or silver.

It is terrible on gold. Headshots don't kill the phantoms, nemesis, or centurions. I like the carnifex for gold.

I love you.  I hate the scrubs on these forums acting like Widow is great on Gold.  It's an easy way to know who not to team with once release hits.

If you have a Mantis and a Viper. discard the Viper unless you are prone to miss every shot. In the case, don't be a sniper? The Mantis is superior to the Viper. Of course, the Widow > all.

viper is for people who actualy want to be usefull and not just get bronze sniper rifle medal since they spend most of the round invisable or reloading, not to say widow is useless compared to the mantis its alot better for anti armor and its good to have someone packing it along when the atlas's start showing up, since overload and phalax take to long to strip one down

tried the widow.... got bored wth all the reloading when theres 3 centurians wandering around I know that iv taken one out when i had the viper I would of taken all 3 but yeah sure im sure the viper must suck since 100% accurate high damage rapid fire rifle must be for people who cant aim....

just like how all the pro snipers in Counter Strike use the AWP, OH WAIT!

...Cloak kept you alive, not the widow, any gun will do if you're strategy is to cloak and scatter whenever things show up.  What was it, a 50 minute game?  The *only* good thing about the widow is the armor penetration, which can be added to any weapon via AP rounds.

it was 30 mins, but it was great teamwork, things that didnt go down in one hit would just get hit by 2 or as much as were needed. Cloak was the thing the kept us alive, but we stood our ground simply because things didn't live long enough to pile up. I really doubt the other snipers would've worked as well, and one shot weapons are better to benefit from the cloak damage. The weight didn't seem to hold us back. I waited about 1-2 seconds longer than I would've with a mantis X, and I do admit I loved the mantis before I got the widow, but it's complete trash in comparison, a well placed mantis shot with cloak takes like 1/5 of the atlas sheilds while a widow takes 1/2. Another weapon just wouldn't have worked as well in unison with the cloak though for any other class the carnifex or however you spell is king no doubt

with a Widow II, i was able to kill 2 guardians through their shields in one shot. just an awesome sniper rifle

<- Widow III, and I most certainly feel sorry for you, because that gun is amazing. Some people say that the Widow is crap on gold - Bull**** I say. How come I end up carrying my entire teams weight equipped only with the Widow then? It's all about how you use your equipment and what your playstyle is like.

Gun is beast. Completed gold a few times and frankly its great.

widow: can kill 2 protected guardians with 1 shot without aiming.
widow: benefits the most from the 230% cloaked damage
widow: oneshots lesser creatures without headshots
widow: minimizes time spent out of cover
widow: atlas killer
widow: shotgun replacement

My only gripe is it weighs about the equivalent to a Freighter, and has the reload speed of a brick.
Other than that, it's brilliant: especially when paired with my Revvie on my Human Soldier.

I think the Widow sucks, especially in Gold. In Gold you can't single-shot kill any enemies anymore and, while you reload their shield is back up in most cases, or they ran for cover. Now, if you want a hit by truck gun...I only say....CLAYMORE!

I think its better on gold where even basic enemies have high levels of health and protection. Yes OSOKs are rarer but the fact that shields can be stripped before firing makes it still very useful.

A Salarian Infiltrator with the proper spec and a Widow can energy drain shields and kill a target in under a second. Body or headshot. This works on the Nemesis, Centurion, and Engineer even on Gold. The Widow might be garbage for other classes or races, I don't play them a lot and won't presume to know. But anyone saying it's terrible for a sniper Salarian Infiltrator just doesn't know what he is talking about.

i like playing salarian infiltrator because they can drain shields and barrier, and every time i use energy drain the enemy always shocked, giving me time to headshot them with my widow II. widow is good in gold too.
